The race:
The Trofeo Laigueglia is a single-day road race held in mid to late February in the Italian region of Liguria. It is organized by, and this makes sense, the town of Laigueglia.
Trofeo Laigeuglia is generally one of the first races of the European season.
It is a hilly race, though there are no long climbs in the race. The winner is generally a tough guy who is neither a specialist climber nor a big sprinter, a rider who can survive the seemingly unending series of tough, short ascents.
In 2009 the total purse for placing in the race was 14,477 Euros, with 5,885 Euros going to first place. 10th through 20th got 147 Euros.
