Weather at the start/finish city of Laigueglia at 1:50 PM, local time: 9C (49F), rain, with the wind from the north-northeast at 24 km/hr (15 mph). The rain is expected to continue through the afternoon, with localized flooding possible.
Ascents:
The race: There were two non-starters: Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto Dstny) & Andrea Biancalani (Beltrami TSA).
Here's the report from third-place Alessandro Covi's UAE Team Emirates:
At the startline: The riders are dressed warmly for a wet and windy race.
The riders had to endure wet conditions throughout the 201km race which was won solo by Frenchman Nans Peters (Ag2r-Citroen) who broke away at with 29 kilometers to go.
These damp road conditions meant several riders crashed including Covi who came down at 38 kilometers to go to go.
The peloton races along the coast.
Covi was able to remount and rejoin the front group and went out in pursuit of the lone leader ten kilometers from the finish, taking seconds off the lead which hovered around the minute mark. Though lack of collaboration behind and the presence of many Ag2r-Citroen riders would prevent any cooperation in the group.
Despite his efforts Covi still managed to outsprint most of his rivals in the seven man chasing group, with only Andrea Vendrame coming past him in the dash for the line.
