The race:

Held in the middle of March, the Tirreno–Adriatico is a one-week stage race from the western to the eastern seacoast of Italy and generally attracts a superb field.

The race travels across Italy between the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic seacoasts, hence the race's nickname, la corsa dei due mare (The Race of the Two Seas).

The Tirreno-Adriatico is promoted and organized by RCS Sport, which also runs the Giro d'Italia and Milan-San Remo, among other races. RCS is owned by the same company the owns the Italian sports newspaper, La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Like Paris–Nice, it's held in mid-March, often at nearly the same time. Many racers use the Tirreno–Adriatico as preparation for Milan–San Remo, which usually comes the Saturday of the following week.
