The race:
The Tour du Haut Var was, until 2009, a single day race ranked 1.1. In 2009 it became a 2-day affair. It is held in mid-February in the Var area of Provence, in southern France.
This is one of several early races run in the hilly area around Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. There is also the Tour de la Provence and the Etoile de Besseges.
In 2019 the race had three stages.
In 2020 it became the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes et du Var. Every year this causes confusion for BikeRaceInfo's elderly webmaster who regularly confuses this race with the Tour of the Alps, which had been formerly called the Giro del Trentino.
The most successful Tour de Alpes racers are Joop Zoetemelk and Arthur Vichot, who have both won the race three times.
