It was difficult but at the same time amazing the sprint, started with 250 metres to go, that let Jakub Mareczko achieving his 10th win of the season in the 2nd stage of the Tour of Hainan.

A great Mareczko has put the cherry on a cake after the spectacular work of the team Wilier Triestina – Selle Italia that has been in front of the peloton for almost all the 230 kms of today in the chase of the breakaway that was caught with only 1000 metres to go.

Jakub Mareczko “It was an hard stage, my team mates were great supporting me all along the day and I want to thank them for this. I didn’t want to do like yesterday when I couldn’t do my sprint so today I’ve accelerated before and the result was very succesful”

Team Sunweb's Cyclocross Ruddervoorde report:

Another strong showing from Joris Nieuwenhuis whilst racing his first season in the elite category sees him finish inside the top 15 at Superprestige Ruddervoorde today.

Gaps immediately opened inside the first lap with one rider going clear. The high pace saw the race split fast, with one rider chasing the solo leader and multiple groups scattered along the parcours behind. After a strong start Joris was positioned inside the first chase group, later dropping back to the second large group of riders. He finished the day in 15th position.

After the race Joris said: “Today was a super technical course and the speed was really high at the beginning. The gaps were made immediately and I couldn’t follow the first group after it split. In the second half of the race I started to feel much better but the gaps were already too big to close.”

Team Sunweb coach Herman Snoeijink added: “Joris had another good race and was technically very good. He was inside the second large chase group where he ended up finishing to take 15th place. It’s still early on in the season but we can see that the form is coming along well.”

Demi de Jong reinforces Lotto Soudal in 2018

Here's the team's update about its women's squad:

Earlier we already announced the composition of the Lotto Soudal Ladies team for 2018. One of the six newcomers is the Dutch rider Demi de Jong (22). The younger sister of Thalita rode for Parkhotel Valkenburg in 2017 after being part of Boels – Dolmans for three years. The past season Demi won the youth classification of the Boels Rental Ladies Tour and she finished third in 7-Dorpenomloop Aalburg, a race that was won by home rider Marianne Vos. In Gooik-Geraardsbergen-Gooik she got tenth and in Dwars door de Westhoek she was eleventh. At Thüringen Ladies Tour Demi conquered two times a tenth place in a stage, at the Ladies Tour of Norway she did that once.

Demi de Jong: “Liesbet De Vocht contacted me to join Lotto Soudal and she made me enthusiastic. I have chosen for a Belgian team, but because I only live at about five kilometres from the border I don’t consider going to Belgium as going abroad. Lotto Soudal has a nice race programme and I hope to animate the finales in the spring together with Lotte Kopecky. I already know Lotte from when we were juniors, the past years we were opponents and now we can support each other.”

“I love hilly races with cobbles and I don’t mind rain. Ghent-Wevelgem is one of my favourite races. In 2012 I won bronze in the time trial at the World Championships for juniors, without any specific training. To set results in time trials as an elite you do need to train for it and that is something I want to work on in the future. When you want to set results in stage races it’s important to ride a decent time trial. But first I want to have a good winter and build up a good basic condition. In January I will probably ride some cyclo-crosses or beach races to be completely in shape for the spring, because in the spring races I want to set good performances.”
