Tour of Switzerland stage four team reports

We posted the report from from the race organizer with the results.

Stage winner Tadej Pogacar's UAE Team Emirates-XRG posted this report:

On stage 4 of the Tour de Suisse, Tadej Pogačar rampaged to an individual time trial victory in great circumstances. Won by João Almeida overall last season, the Portuguese rider’s teammate produced another tremendous display to take the day’s honours on stage 4.

Winning the stage by less than a second, Pogačar made it clear that he was the race leader, and anybody with eyes on the yellow jersey would have to provide an irresistible performance on Sunday’s stage 5.

The UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider takes a lead of over four minutes into the final stage, and looks every bit worthy of his lead. Saturday proved his second stage victory of the week, making it three stage victories from four days for the Emirati squad, after Jhonatan Narváez’s win on stage 3.

Ready to analyse the performance on Saturday evening, Pogačar reviewed his performance after the finish line, with the Slovenian full of a smile after his day in the saddle.

Pogačar: “It was really hot out there, and a really fast parcours. I felt great, good legs, and I didn’t know that I was fighting for the win.

“I just wanted to give it all, and I knew I was close, but after the intermediate point I didn’t know any further times, so I was just trying to go all out to the finish, I managed to do it well, and I am super happy to take the win.”

Here’s the Tour of Switzerland report from third-place Tobias Foss' Team Netcompany INEOS:

Tobias Foss put in an impressive ride to claim the third fastest time in the stage four time trial at the Tour de Suisse.

The Norwegian champion clocked a time just over six seconds slower than the stage best across the flat 23.7-kilometre course in Aarburg.

That ride elevated Foss to sixth place overall ahead of Sunday's mountain-heavy finale.

Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates - XRG) narrowly edged out the win on the day, crossing the line three tenths of a second ahead of Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin - PremierTech) - extending his race lead in the process.

Also in the top 20 on the stage was AJ August, who would jump up three places on the GC to 14th overall.

Ilan Van Wilder’s Team Soudal Quick-Step posted this Swiss Tour report:

The penultimate stage of the race - the only one against the clock at this edition - took a massive importance this year, especially as it was scheduled ahead of the sole mountain top finish of the week. Held over a 23.7km mostly flat course tailored to the specialists of the discipline, the individual time trial was an important opportunity for the general classification contenders to gain time or retain their position in the standings.

Last Soudal Quick-Step rider to roll down the ramp, Ilan Van Wilder put together a solid display in what was his fourth ITT of the season and stopped the clock in 27:27, making him the highest-ranked member of our team in Aarburg. Ilan, who averaged 51.78km/h, maintained his seventh place in the ranking going into the mountainous stage five.

Another Soudal Quick-Step rider, Louis Vervaeke, enjoyed his first day as leader of the climbers standings. The experienced Belgian has a slim lead, but we’ll try to fight for the green jersey in Villars-sur-Ollon.

And here's the Tour of Switzerland report from Wilco Kelderman's Team Visma | Lease a Bike:

The riders of Team Visma | Lease a Bike were unable to challenge for the top positions in the Tour de Suisse time trial. Wilco Kelderman did manage to retain his eighth place in the general classification. The stage victory went to Tadej Pogačar.

The fourth day of the Tour de Suisse was all about the individual time trial. The riders faced a 23.7-kilometer course that was mostly flat. Before the time trial, Kelderman was eighth in the general classification, 4 minutes and 44 seconds behind GC leader Pogačar.

It was Mathieu van der Poel who set a fast benchmark time. It later turned out that only Pogačar was able to narrowly improve on that mark. Kelderman was the first Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider to finish. The former Dutch time trial champion finished 23rd. He will start tomorrow’s tough final stage in eighth place overall.
Sports director Gaëtan Pons looks back on the time trial and is already looking ahead to Sunday’s queen stage: “Wilco rode a good time trial and defended his place in the top ten,” he says. “Our guys gave a lot yesterday, and that was noticeable in today’s time trial. Tomorrow will be the most important day of the week. We will do everything we can to keep our place in the top ten of the general classification. In addition, we definitely want to show ourselves again tomorrow.”
