Weather at the start/finish city of Quimper at 2:45 PM, local time: 14C (58F), showers is the vicinity, with the wind from the west at 18 km/hr (11 mph). The rain is forecast to end around 3:15 PM.

The race: Here's the report from second-place Alex Molenaar's Team Caja Rural-Seguros RGA.

Once again, the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team came tantalizingly close to adding another victory to their tally. On this occasion, it was the Dutchman Alex Molenaar who brushed with glory at the Tour du Finistère, securing a second-place finish behind Jon Barrenetxea (MOV)—a former rider of the "green" squad. Alongside Alex, Fernando Barceló (6th) and Eduard Prades (9th) rounded out a superb collective performance.

Featuring not a single flat meter—and with the six laps of the final circuit in Quimper serving as the race's focal point—the event kicked off with a breakaway of six brave riders who opened up a gap of around three minutes in an attempt to put the peloton under pressure.

Once inside the final loop—and with the breakaway group shedding riders—the race favorites began jockeying for position at the front. All the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA riders remained alert to every move, yet the various passes through Quimper failed to disrupt the cohesion of the main group.

When a mass sprint finish became inevitable, a powerful dash for the line ensued; the green squad's three key contenders gave it their all in pursuit of victory, successfully placing Molenaar, Barceló, and Prades inside the top 10.

Alex Molenaar: "It was a very controlled race—primarily by the French teams—and we adopted a conservative approach to conserve our energy for the finale. We all rode very well, staying alert as we entered the final descent to tackle the uphill ramp. Barceló was very attentive to the late-race moves, and in the end, I came very close to taking the win. It’s a shame, but I think it was a good race."
