Tour de France: the Inside Story

Les Woodland's book Tour de France: The Inside Story - Making the World's Greatest Bicycle Race is available in print, Kindle eBook and audiobook versions. For your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.

The race:

La Roue Tourangelle is a single-day race held in the Centre Region of France. First organized in 2002, the race was exclusively for amateurs from 2002 through 2004.

In 2005 the UCI made it a 1.2 professional race and part of the UCI Europe Tour.

In 2013 La Roue Tourangelle received a promotion to 1.1 status.

Traditionally held in March, it is currently (2017) run in late March/early April. Though it competes with the Northern Classics (in 2017 it was held the same day as the Ronde van Vlaanderen and the Vuelta a Rioja) for top riders, lately it has attracted a quality field.
