The race:
The Scheldecross cyclo-cross race has been run annually since 2006 in the Belgian city of Antwerp.
It is currently (2017) part of the DVV Insurance Trophy.
The course is next to the River Scheldt, so there is a lot of sand for the racers to negotiate as well as some truly steep little hills.
Just to make sure the racers not it is cyclocross that they are doing, there are muddy patches as well.
The race is not won by the unskilled. A look at the podium list of both the men's and women's races will bear that fact out.
