The Race:

The 1979 Paris-Roubaix was 264 km long and raced at an average speed of 41.01 km/hr

There were 173 starters and 51 classified finishers

Roger de Vlaeminck left Francesco Moser's Sanson team and joined their rival, Gis Gelati. Unlike the previous year, they were no loing on the same team.

Marc Demeyer and Hennie Kuiper had been energetic much of the race and when the two had finally formed a successful escape, de Vlaeminck and Moser bridged up to the duo.

From there Moser, who was in fantastic condition, rode away. Despite a flat, he was able arrive alone in the Roubaix velodrome for his second Paris-Roubaix.
