Weather at the start/finish city of Veenendaal at 1:50 PM, local time: 23C (74F), sunny, with the wind from the northeast at 8 km/hr (5 mph). There is a 5% chance of rain, rising to 24% at 4:00 PM.

The race: Here's the report from third-place Dylan Groenewegen's Team Jayco-AlUla.

Dylan Groenewegen came within centimetres of victory at the Veenendaal-Veenendaal Classic, ultimately finishing third in the final sprint.

Team Jayco-AlUla were among the top teams working to bring back the early six-man breakaway in tricky conditions. The escape group did not make it easy and held on out front until inside the final two kilometres.

It was a closely contested sprint after a hectic final few kilometres as teams jostled for position. Groenewegen pushed hard for the line in the sprint, and narrowly missed out on taking the top spot.

Dylan Groenewegen:
“It was not an easy day with the rain, but the team did a really good job and we took our responsibility to fight for the sprint! In the end, it was up to me and I didn’t finish it off but we know where we working for and that is this summer.”
