The Race:
The 1986 Paris-Roubaix was 268 km long and raced at an average speed of 39.374 km/hr.
There were 179 starters and 57 classified finishers.
The course was wet and muddy.
There were still 30 riders left in the front group with 18 kilometers remaining. Sean Kelly attacked and took Rudy Dhaenens, Adri Van der Poel and Ferdi Van den Haute with him.
Kelly finished a couple of bike lengths ahead of Dhaenens. This was the first of three years when Paris-Roubaix finished in town instead of in the velodome.

And here's Francesco Moser who had won Paris-Roubaix in 1978, '79 and 1980, but he finished in a group a minute and a half behind Kelly this year. Sirotti photo
