The race:

The 1938 Paris-Roubaix was 255 km long and raced at an average speed of30.99 km/hr.

There were 171 starters and 59 classified finishers.

The day was very cold, with a strong north wind.

Seventeen kilometers from Roubaix the lead group was down to fifteen riders.

Louis Hardiquest attacked with 21-year old Lucien Storme on his wheel. Nine kilometers later Storme punctured. Storme was back on the road in a flash and in no time had caught Hardiquest.

Storme led out the sprint from a long way back and easily beat the more highly regarded Hardiquest.
