Since 2023 there are five races.

While each race is an independent 1.1 ranked competition, until 2010 there was a General Classification for an overall winner as well.

Weather at the start/finish city of Palma at 2:05 PM, local time: 12C (55F), mostly cloudy, with the wind from the north-northwest at 18 km/hr (11 mph). There is a 4% chance of rain.

The race: Here is a machine-translation of the race report from winner Iúri Leitão's Team Caja Rural-Seguros RGA.

The Challenge de Mallorca ended with an unbeatable finish with the victory achieved by Iúri Leitão in the Palma Trophy, the last of the five stages of the Balearic race. The Portuguese rider used his power to surprise the peloton in the final metres and take the first victory of the year, which is also the first for the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team historically in Mallorca.

With a profile clearly favourable to a mass arrival, the peloton did not let go of a very large breakaway. In fact, after some aborted attacks, two men were in charge of riding ahead and it was not until well into the final circuit when the last survivor was reabsorbed by the large group.

From then on, the mass sprint seemed inevitable in the Mallorcan capital. However, Iúri Leitão's superb attack about five hundred metres from the finish surprised the rest of the sprinters and allowed the Portuguese to raise his arms and thus add his first victory in 2025, for a total of ten since he wore the colours of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA and having added victories in each of the four seasons he has been in the green squad.

Iúri Leitão: “The plan was not to attack so early because there were many teams preparing the sprint. I wanted to be in front, and my teammates have carried me very well positioned, especially in the last two laps of the circuit. I had planned to get a good wheel and have enough space to be able to launch the sprint, something I couldn't do the other day because the finish was very crazy. In the end I saw myself in a good position and I felt strong enough to try an attack from further away. Sometimes you have to take a bit of risk and luckily it has worked out well for us. It is very important to start the season like this, with a victory in a race of this level.”

Weather at the city of Pollença, on the route and near the finish at 2:10 PM, local time: 10C (50F), cloudy, with the wind from the east at 11 km/hr (7 mph). There is a 20% chance of rain, rising to 54% at 5:00 PM.

The race: Here is the race organizer's explanation for the race cancellation:

The Andratx-Pollença Trophy, the fourth round of the XXXIV Garden Hotels-Luxcom Challenge Ciclista a Mallorca, was suspended at kilometre 23. Given the adverse conditions, with heavy rain and after several falls in the first kilometres of the day, the riders have informed the Technical Jury of the race of their decision to stop the race and declare it finished.

From the Organisation of the race, its general director Manuel Hernández has expressed his disappointment at the circumstances and has explained that the riders have had no other option. “It is a complicated and also sad day, because organising a race takes a lot of work and there are a lot of personnel involved, sponsors, etc., but we have not been able to overcome the weather and non-weather conditions. It is the riders who have made a unilateral decision and have decided to stop and not the Organisation”, he said.

Hernández believes that “the safety of the riders comes first”, but he regretted that, in the decision taken, the Organisation “had no say in it”, which he considered “a lack of respect”. He went further: “If this were the Vuelta or the Tour, I would bet that it would not have happened”.

The Organisation regrets the injuries suffered by some of the cyclists who have been involved in a fall and wishes them all a speedy recovery.

Results: No results. The race was cancelled.

Florian Stork gets his first pro win in Selva.

Cycling's World Championships

Les Woodland's book Cycling's World Championships: The Inside Story is available in print, Kindle eBook & audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.

Weather at the finish city of Selva at 1:50 PM, local time: 11C (52F), cloudy, with the wind from the north at 23 km/hr (14 km/hr). There is a 60% chance of rain at 2:00 PM.

The race: Here's the report from second-place Martin Marcellusi's Team VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizanè.

At the Trofeo Serra Tramuntana, the team delivered a strong collective performance: Alessandro Pinarello, Filippo Fiorelli, and Marcellusi himself successfully led the chase of Morgado, battling for the final victory. The decisive move came from Florian Stork, while just behind him, Marcellusi secured an excellent second place, postponing his first professional win but securing the first podium of the season for VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizanè. Also finishing in the Top 10 was Filippo Fiorelli, who took tenth place, while Alessandro Pinarello finished 12th.

Here are the words of Martin Marcellusi:"Today, I felt really good on the climbs. After Soller, we lost some ground on the descent, but we managed to catch up. I felt a bit too tired for the final stretch, so I fueled up more than usual and noticed that my legs were responding well. The initial plan was to position Fiorelli as best as possible for the final, but he was also quite tired and gave me the green light. When Stork attacked, I didn’t have the energy to catch him. However, I’m very satisfied with this second place. I want to thank my teammates, Pinarello and Fiorelli, who were impeccable, and the entire team."

Weather at the finish city of Colonia Sant Jordi at 2:20 PM, local time: 16C (61F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the west-northwest at 23 km/hr (14 mph). No rain is forecast.

The race: Here's the report from winner Martijn van den Berg's Team EF Education-EasyPost.

Marijn van den Berg closed out a massive effort from his EF Education-EasyPost teammates with a sprint victory at the Trofeo Ses Salines.

The Dutchman kept his cool in the final kilometer and then launched up the left side of the pack and left all of his rivals behind him. As he crossed the finish line, Marijn swung his arm in the air and let out a whoop of joy. His teammates soon gathered around to celebrate with him. This victory was the best way for Marijn and his leadout squad to start the season.

“First race, first win is really good,” Marijn said after the finish. “In the sprint, I just tried to focus on my own race. We knew that it was a little bit windy today and made a plan to stay on the left side, where we were more covered from the wind. We all did really well to focus on the plan. For us it was a perfect situation. The sprint went really well and I could keep them in my wheel.”

This win belongs to James Shaw, Rui Costa, Jack Rootkin-Gray, Michael Valgren, Owain Doull, and Vincenzo Albanese, too. As soon as the commissaire dropped his flag at the start of the second day of the Challenge Mallorca, the whole team committed to Marijn’s cause, trusting that the winner of the 2023 edition of the race could pull it off if they got him to the final kilometer at the front of the peloton.

A strong wind was blowing off of the Mediterranean, making their work hard, but the team kept in front, keeping the day’s breakaway in check, as they rolled around the southern corner of the island, winding through olive groves between dry stone walls.

As the finish line approached, riders surged ahead, but EF Education-EasyPost stuck together, chasing them down with Marijn in their draft. All of the work that they put in over the past weeks of training together in Mallorca has paid off.

“The team did a super good job getting me out of the wind,” Marijn said. “We trained really hard here. We did a training camp with the team and know the roads quite well now. You can do everything here. For me, it's perfect. I always like training and racing here. I’m super happy, and tomorrow we go again.”

Tomorrow, EF Education-EasyPost will take on the Trofeo Serra Tramuntana, which crosses the mountains on the northwest coast of Mallorca.

“It's a different race, of course, but I will do my best to be up there again,” Marijn says.

Weather at the start/finish city of Palmanova at 2:20 PM, local time: 15C (59F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the west at 32 km/hr (19 mph). No rain is forecast.

The race: Here's the report from winner Jan Christen's UAE Team Emirates:

Jan Christen took the fourth win of the season for UAE Team Emirates-XRG with a classy solo victory at the Trofeo Calvia on day one of the Challenge Mallorca.

The Swiss talent played a clever tactical game, taking advantage of a lull in the group to bridge across solo to the two leaders, Frederick Wandahl (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) and Christian Scaroni (XDS Astana), at -10km to go.

With no immediate answer from the reduced peloton the trio worked together to maintain a lead, before Christian hit-out solo with an explosive attack at -1km to go and was able to cross the line solo with his arms aloft.

Antonio Morgado also continued to show his form with 3rd place as he put in a strong shift covering the attacks behind for Christen.

Christen : “I’m super happy, I have really good condition and the first two races were already good with Morgado taking a win and now me as well.

"Today, Tudor pulled all day at a super-hard pace and I didn’t have the best legs. So I tried to save as much energy as possible until the end and then make one or two good moves. To get away and win the race is amazing.

"I did some super good winter training in Gran Canaria, and could make another step forward. Taking a win already is amazing and I’m super happy. My thanks must also go to the team who did an excellent job.”
