Arne Marit wins the Trofeo Palma

Story of the Giro d'Italia, volume 1

Weather at the finish city of Palma at 2:35 PM, local time: 16C (60F), sunny, with the wind from the west-southwest at 16 km/hr (10 mph). There is just a 1% chance of rain.

The race: Here's the report from winner Arne Marit's Team Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe.

After three wins in the first four races of the Challenge Mallorca, the team also claimed the Palma finale, with Arne Marit winning and teammate Alessio Magagnotti completing the double podium.

Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe capped off a dominant week at the Challenge Mallorca with a sprint victory in the Trofeo Palma (Marratxí › Palma, 158.3 km). In a race perfectly suited to the fast men, Arne Marit (Belgium) delivered the team’s fourth victory in five races, ahead of Max Kanter (Germany, XDS Astana Team), while Marit’s Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe teammate Alessio Magagnotti (Italy) finished third.

As the race approached Palma, Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe stayed well positioned in the peloton, helping to keep the situation under control behind an attacking group that had animated the race for much of the day. The break was finally brought back just a few kilometres from the finish. A crash in the closing kilometres, however, disrupted several lead-out trains and reshaped the sprint, but the team reacted decisively.

Arne Marit made the most of the situation, launching his sprint at the right moment and powering to victory, while young teammate Alessio Magagnotti stayed right behind to secure third place. The result marked Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe’s fourth victory in five days – following the team time trial win earlier in the week and Remco Evenepoel’s back-to-back victories in the two mountainous races – and capped off a perfect start to the European race season for the team.

“The crash in the final corner changed the situation completely, so I made a quick decision to go all in and from 300 metres out it was full gas. To end the week with four wins in five races is amazing for the whole team. Personally, after three years without a victory, this one means a lot to me. And finishing with Alessio on the podium as well is special – he’s a young rider with huge talent.” - Arne Marit

“It was a perfect race for us. The beginning was calm, but we knew the key point was the U-turn with 2.4 kilometres to go. The boys positioned themselves exactly as planned, and Arne finished it off in an incredible way. To have Alessio third as well is just outstanding. It’s the perfect way to close such a successful week.” - Pello Olaberria, Sports Director

Weather at the finish city of Mirador des Colomer at 2:40 PM, local time: 13C (55F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the northwest at 29 km/hr (18 mph). There is just a 1% chance of rain.

The race: The opening 26 kilometers of the race, a loop towards Port d’Andratx, were cancelled due to strong winds. The race started with the ascent of Coll de sa Gramola and the start was delayed to 1:00 PM.

Here's the report from winner Remco Evenepoel's Team Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe:

Three races – three victories: Remco Evenepoel continued his perfect start to the season by claiming the win at the Trofeo Andratx–Pollença. Maxim Van Gils capped off a strong team performance with an impressive third place.

Conditions were challenging even before the start. Strong winds and difficult weather forced the organisers to shorten the race to 121 kilometres. Short, but intense – featuring everything that makes racing on Mallorca so demanding: wind, the climb up Puig Major, and a sharp final ascent.

The race itself quickly matched the tough conditions. On Puig Major, Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe took control, positioning all seven riders prominently at the front of the peloton. Around 50 kilometres from the finish, Evenepoel launched his first attack. A group of favourites emerged, before the key selection came roughly 15 kilometres to go – only Mathys Rondel was able to follow. On the final climb, the time trial world champion accelerated once more, dropped his last rival, and rode solo to another commanding victory.

"The conditions were even harder than yesterday, with a lot of cross and headwinds, which made it difficult to create the difference the way we had planned. But in the end, we managed to win again and also put Maxim on the podium. Finishing first and third for our third victory this week is a really great way to end the Mallorca Challenge. It’s a big motivational boost. I’ll already be back racing again on Wednesday, and it’s always good to start the season with some early wins." - Remco Evenepoel

Weather at the finish at Lluc at 2:35 PM, local time: 14C (57F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the west-southwest at 19 km/hr (12 mph). No rain is forecast.

The race: Here's the report from winner Remco Evenepoel's Team Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe.

Season win #2: Remco Evenepoel completes Mallorca double

Remco Evenepoel lived up to those ambitions in impressive fashion, claiming the teams second win in just two days with a commanding solo performance. With the challenging course profile in mind, Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe had already outlined a clear plan the evening before. Puig Major, Sóller, Lluc — climbs that are part of the team’s regular training routine on Mallorca. The idea was simple: an early move and a long-range attack.

And that is exactly what happened. After his teammates controlled the race and delivered the crucial groundwork, Evenepoel launched his decisive attack around 100 kilometres from the finish on the Coll de Sóller. He then extended his advantage on the descent, leaving his rivals behind, and rode the final 50 kilometres solo to secure a convincing victory.

“Today was really special. What we showed today was exactly what we had planned. I’m really happy that I was able to execute the plan just as we discussed. The whole team was incredibly strong — everyone did what they had to do. Then it was up to me to make the difference on the Sóller climb. In the end, I’m very happy with this result.” — Remco Evenepoel

Team Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe finishes the fastest team time trial ever. Cycling 360 screen grab.

Weather at Colònia de Sant Jordi at 2:50 PM, local time: 16C (61F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the west-southwest at 21 km/hr (13 mph). Rain is forecast at 5:00 PM.

The race: Here's the report from winner Team Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe.

For several months, Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe have been working intensively on the “TTT” project. The team time trial at the Trofeo Ses Salines marked the first real test under race conditions—and it delivered in convincing fashion.

The season debut of Remco Evenepoel and Florian Lipowitz ended not only with a victory, but with the fastest team time trial ever.

With an average speed of 59.7 km/h, the team made a clear statement on the roads of Mallorca. Remco Evenepoel, Florian Lipowitz, Mattia Cattaneo, Nico Denz, Lorenzo Finn, Gianni Moscon and Maxim Van Gils lived up to their role as favourites and rewarded the team for an intensive period of preparation.

The result is also an important confirmation on the road towards 4 July, the opening day of the Tour de France in Barcelona. The pacing plan developed ahead of the race worked exactly as intended: staying within striking distance at the intermediate time check before making the decisive difference in the second half. A headwind and a short kicker in the finale placed the focus firmly on strength and reserves—precisely where the team was able to play to its strengths.

A team time trial victory is always something special. This result is the outcome of an enormous collective effort by the entire team and all departments involved in the TTT project we’ve been working on since last year. It’s a true team win. — Patxi Villa

Team time trials are always demanding, but we had a clear plan and it paid off. We knew the headwind and the short kicker would be decisive, and that’s where we made the difference. Starting the season with a win—especially with new teammates—feels great and is a real boost for morale. — Remco Evenepoel

The Story of the Giro d’Italia, vol.1 Shade Vise sunglass holder Paris-Roubaix: The Inside Store

António Morgado wins in Palmanova.

Weather at the start/finish city of Palmanova at 2:35 PM, local time: 11C (52F), rain, with the wind from the southwest at 18 km/hr (11 mph). The rain is forecast to continue through 5:00 PM.

The race: Here's the report from winner António Morgado's UAE Team Emirates-XRG.

Celebrating his 22nd birthday in style Antonio Morgado stormed to a spectacular victory at the Trofeo Calvia on Wednesday afternoon. The UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider bridged across to and subsequently dropped the breakaway, before outsprinting Hector Alverez to the line in Palmanova. The first instalment of this week’s Challenge Mallorca was raced under biblical conditions, with barely an inch of the island escaping the downpour. As such, the racing was even more attritional than usual, drawing out a battle to be remembered between Morgado and Alvarez. Just 19 and 22 years old respectively, the pair put on a show of force on behalf of their generation of young talents.

It may have been the two-up sprint that decided the victory, but their efforts started much earlier in the day as an intense battle ensued between the peloton and the breakaway.

On the first of five race days in Mallorca, the start list of Trofeo Calvia was out to impress. First impressions are few and far between, and the riders in Spain were determined to make theirs a good one for 2026. As such, the breakaway was made up of a powerful group, each of whom showed impressive legs in the finals and Morgado and Alvarez looked to make their move.

Surviving tough and relentless short climbs that made up the race on Wednesday, Andrien Boichis (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe), Adne Holter (Uno-X Mobility), and Georg Steinhauser (EF Education-EasyPost) held an advantage of well over a minute and a half into the penultimate categorized ascent of the day. With a little under 40 km to ride, the race victory in many ways looked to be theirs for the taking.

Sensing that the day had started to get away from the peloton, Morgado took his leave from the pack with 33 kilometers to go. It was a violent acceleration from the UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider who was still wearing his rain jacket, such was the state of conditions in Mallorca. As his rear wheel disappeared from sight, so did the chance of victory for the peloton.

Only Alvarez, turning out for the Spanish national team, could eventually show his face and force his way across to Morgado, with the pair joining together in pursuit of the three men who remained at the head of the race. As for Boichis, Holter and Steinhauser, their lead was a minute and a half as they began to make their way up the Col de sa Gramola (3.1 km @ 5.2%).

Hot on their heels, Morgado and Alvarez made such a dent in the trio’s advantage on the climb that, within a couple of kilometers of the descent, three had become five at the head of the bike race. In turn, Morgado and Alvarez showed no hesitation in asserting their authority as the final climb approached, the Coll de Soma, with its 5% average over 2.6 km, offered fertile ground to make a definitive attack.

The move came first from the Spaniard, swiftly followed by Morgado, and the pair were soon alone off the front. Despite their best efforts, the surviving members of the breakaway could find no answers, and it was left to Morgado and Alvarez to contest the day’s honors. With nothing to separate the two, their battle rumbled on into a sprint finish in Palmanova.

As Morgado got the better of the 19-year-old, his UAE Team Emriates-XRG teammates were finishing off a great day behind. Sticking to their task, Nils Politt and Rune Herregodts both finished inside the top 10 in their first race day of the season, coming in eighth and ninth respectively.

Morgado: “I feel good. The goal of the season is always to win a race, and now I have one. It was a super hard day, super cool all day, but normally I feel good in these conditions, so I am happy.

"Today is a special day and I am happy to give this gift to myself. The race, with this weather, I know I can feel good because this is my type of weather. Last year I tried too many times and this year I knew I just needed to try one time and then go away. It was important to keep easy in the bunch and then when I need to attack, I attack.

“It started to feel in the bunch that we did not have the power to close the gap, so I knew I needed to make my move.

“We played the game, but Hector (Alvarez) did a great race. Like me, he deserved to win. It was really 50/50 so I am happy for my victory. The next races are a little bit more for the climbers, but we can look forward to them as well.”
