Weather at the finish city of Tui at 2:30 PM, local time: 14C (58F), rain, with the wind from the southwest at 31 km/hr (19 mph).

The race: Bad weather prompted the race organizers to shorten the stage.

Here's the race report from winner Jonas Vingegaard's Team Visma | Lease a Bike:

Team Visma | Lease a Bike was able to celebrate for the third time in a row. Jonas Vingegaard took his third stage win in a row and thus also managed to secure the general classification. A perfect four-day race for the Dane and his Dutch team in the Spanish rain. The latter also ensured, among other things, that the final stage was shortened.

Dane Jonas Vingegaard was relaxed at the start this morning. He was able to start the final stage with a nice lead. After his two impressive efforts yesterday and the day before, it seemed a foregone conclusion that Vingegaard would take the overall victory. Only the weather seemed to throw a spanner in the works.

The stage to Monte Aloia was eventually shortened due to severe weather conditions. The final climb was initially planned to be climbed twice, but the organisation decided to leave it at once. With no footage and limited updates, it remained exciting until the end, but in the end it was Vingegaard who won again.

"I am very satisfied with the past week. Everyone did a fantastic job. With three stage wins and the overall victory, we can speak of an almost perfect O Gran Camino. The only less positive thing is the weather. Very unfortunate that we had to finish in these tough weather conditions," the Dane concluded.

Weather at the finish city of Ribadavia at 1:45 PM, local time: 12C (54F), mostly cloudy, with the wind from the west at 10 km/hr (6 mph). There is a 10% chance of rain.

The race: Here's the report from winner Jonas Vingegaard's Team Visma | Lease a Bike.

Jonas Vingegaard has won for the second day in a row in the Spanish stage race O Gran Camino. On the final climb of the day, Vingegaard rode away from the group of favourites. The Dane of Team Visma | Lease a Bike grabbed a lead of around 30 seconds and did not relinquish it.

The third stage of O Gran Camino promised to be another very tough one. After ten kilometres, the first climb was already on the programme. It looked like an early breakaway would emerge there and it eventually did. Indeed, it was Vingegaard, the leader of the general classification, who broke the race open.

"Carapaz was the one who started attacking after the mountain sprint," Vingegaard stressed afterwards. "We had a nice gap pretty quickly and the collaboration was excellent. I definitely gave it a chance and would see what it would bring in the end," the Dane said.

Vingegaard and co eventually took a lead of around 30 seconds, but the peloton managed to bring back the group that also included Bernal and Gaudu.

Vingegaard's hunger proved far from over. On the final climb of the day he attacked again and rode alone towards the remaining stage leader. He managed to leave him behind as well and so the Dane rode solo to another win in this edition of O Gran Camino.

"It was another very tough day. The guys did an excellent job of keeping the leading group within shot. Then I took the risk to attack and luckily I was able to keep my lead until the finish," said a satisfied Vingegaard.

A final difficult stage is scheduled for tomorrow. Despite the big lead, Vingegaard remains wary. "It's another tough ride. We will have to come up with a good plan to stay out of trouble. It is the last stage so we will do everything we can to secure the jersey," the Dane concluded. Cian Uijtdebroeks continues to hold the white jersey. Vingegaard now holds the points and mountain jersey in addition to the leader's jersey.

Friday, February 23: Stage 2, Taboada - Chantada, 151.1 km

Stage 2 map & profile

Jonas Vingegaard is already in top form.

Weather at the finish city of Chantada at 1:45 PM, local time: 9C (49F), rain showers, with the wind from the west at 24 km/hr (15 mph). Occasional rain is likely to continue for the next several hours.

The race: Here's the report from stage winner Jonas Vingegaard's Team Visma | Lease a Bike.

Jonas Vingegaard has won the second stage of O Gran Camiño in an impressive way. On the final climb, the 27-year-old Dane of Team Visma | Lease a Bike dropped his competitors before reaching the line in Chantada solo. He also became the new general classification leader.

On another rainy day in Galicia, the riders were presented with a tough hill stage with the double climb of the Alto de San Pedro de Licora on the menu. An early breakaway of 12 riders was given breathing space by the peloton, in which Team Visma | Lease a Bike controlled the pace towards the finale. At seven kilometres from the line, Vingegaard launched his attack. Only Egan Bernal and Jefferson Cepeda seemed to be able to follow the pace of the two-time Tour winner, but they eventually had to let go after an ultimate acceleration.

"I am very satisfied with this win," Vingegaard responded afterwards. "Because of the cold and the rain, it was anything but pleasant today. Nevertheless, we still managed to put in a strong team performance. The guys rode very strongly, so I'm happy that I could reward their work with a win. They deserved it."

Just like last season, Vingegaard managed to take his first win of the season on day two of the Spanish stage race. "I like to race in Galicia, even though it wasn't the best weather conditions," the Dane laughed. "This was my fourth stage win here, although this one was definitely not easy. With Bernal I had a tough competitor for the stage win. In terms of form, I am already where I wanted to be. I'm looking forward to the next stages."

Thursday, February 22: Stage 1, A Caruña 14.8 km individual time trial

Stage 1 map & profile

Josh Tarling going much faster than any of the other riders. INEOS photo

Tour de France: 2019

Bill and Carol McGann's book The Story of the Tour de France, 2019: A Year of New Faces is available in both Kindle eBook and audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.

Weather at the race city of A Caruña at 2:00 PM, local time: 12C (54F), mostly cloudy, with the wind from the west at 27 km/hr (18 mph). There is a 12% chance of rain.

The race: Here's the report from winner Joshua Tarling's Team INEOS Grenadiers.

Josh Tarling stormed to victory in a windswept opening time trial at O Gran Camiño.

The gale force winds forced the organisers to neutralise the GC times, and insist on road bikes for the 14 kilometre TT that started and ended in A Coruña.

Ethan Hayter and Michał Kwiatkowski were among the early pace setters on a lumpy and technical course along the sea front, before Tarling went fastest at the first time check.

Flying into the course yet further, Josh went fastest at the second time check too, before eviscerating the second half of the course to come home 42 seconds faster than second place.

The win sees the Welshman take the leaders jersey, but with no GC advantage, due to the conditions.

Complete Stage 1 Results:

Because of strong winds the GC times were neutralized.
