Weather at the race city of Geneva at 2:15 PM, local time. 19C (67F), mostly cloudy, with the wind from the southwest at 19 km/hr (12 mph). There is a 60% chance of rain.

As of 1:45 AM Sunday Geneva time, the forecast was for showers and scattered thunderstorms. The race organizer posted: "...the risk of rain is likely to increase as the race progresses. The roads will be slippery due to the rain, especially in town. The wind will be favorable on the outward journey between Les Eux-Vives and Collonges, then sideways and then headwinds on the day's main climb and on the return journey as far as Les Eux-Vives."

The race: The first rider scheduled to start was Johan Price-Pejtersen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) at 1:32 PM.

Jacopo Mosca (Lidl-Trek) did not start.

Here's the report from stage five winner Remco Evenepoel's Team Soudal Quick-Step:

Remco Evenepoel concluded the Tour de Romandie by taking his 18th career win in the individual time trial, a result that elevated him four places on the general classification of the World Tour race, where this year he returned for the first time since 2019, his neo-pro season.

The 25-year-old started the day in ninth place overall, but produced another impressive ride that saw him go fastest through the intermediate checkpoint before setting the best time at the finish – 20:33, thanks to an average speed close to 50km/h. Victorious in Genève, Evenepoel moved up to fifth on the general classification and became the first reigning World ITT Champion since Tony Martin, in 2013, to win a stage against the clock at the Tour de Romandie.

“I’m happy with this win. We were lucky with the weather, as we didn’t have the rain that was initially predicted. The first four kilometers of the race were pretty technical, then everything was pretty straightforward until the finish line. I am delighted with my performance, and especially with the feeling I had in my shoulder, in the corners and on the straight lines.”

Third-place Alberto Bettiol on his ride.

“I can look back on these last couple of weeks with satisfaction. I took two wins since returning to competition and found the rhythm again. Not everything went as I had wanted in some races, but it’s only normal after so much time off the bike. I will now recover a bit and then continue my preparations for the summer”, said Remco after his 56th success in the Soudal Quick-Step jersey.

The Olympic Champion was joined in the top ten of the Tour de Romandie by teammate Junior Lecerf, who finished the Swiss race in a solid eighth place, the same result he got earlier this season in another World Tour event, the UAE Tour.

I was wondering why the UAE Team Emirates riders had their sponsors' names covered on their time trial kits and Google/AI gave me this response:

In the 2025 Tour de Romandie time trial, UAE Team Emirates riders had their sponsor's name covered because the team was racing under the name UAE Team Emirates XRG. This change reflects a new sponsorship agreement where XRG, a company focused on natural gas, chemicals, and lower-carbon energy solutions, became the co-title partner and official energy partner of the team. The shift to this new branding indicates that the team is evolving with its sponsorship structure.

Weather at the finish city of Thyon at 2:15 PM, local time: 9C (48F), mostly cloudy, with the wind from the northwest at 14 km/hr (9 mph). There is a 30% chance of rain.

The race: Here's the report from stage winner and new GC leader Lenny Martinez's Team Bahrain Victorious.

Lenny Martinez may have finished runner-up on Stage 3 of the Tour de Romandie, but the young French rider showed no hesitation on the Queen Stage, powering to victory atop the brutal Thyon 2000 climb and outsprinting João Almeida in the final metres.

Early in the stage: The peloton races through Sion.

The 118.2 km stage began with an early breakaway featuring Ben Zwiehoff (Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe), Louis Barré (Intermarché – Wanty), and Julien Bernard (Lidl – Trek), who escaped on the opening ascent of the Anzère. Heading into the final 50 km, the peloton maintained a manageable two-minute gap on the Category 1 Nax climb, keeping the leaders within reach.

As the race approached the final climb, Max van der Meulen and Finlay Pickering began to reduce the deficit, reeling in the last breakaway rider with 13 km to go.

In the final 5 km, only four riders remained at the front: Martinez, Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates), João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates), and Lorenzo Fortunato (Astana Qazaqstan Team). With 4 km to go, it became a head-to-head battle between Martinez and Almeida, as the pair distanced themselves and quickly opened up a gap.

Just as he had on Stage 3, Lenny outsprinted Almeida at the line to take an emphatic win.

With the victory and 10 bonus seconds, Martinez moved into the overall lead, now holding a slim 2-second advantage over Fortunato heading into tomorrow’s decisive individual time trial in Geneva.

Heading up the first climb of the day.

A delighted Lenny commented:
“Yeah I felt okay on the last climb, all the team did a great job, the same as yesterday also. Yesterday second place I wanted to win. This morning I woke up and I was thinking maybe I can win today also. I tried the best I could do and in the end I won so I’m super happy. I feel super good with this team, they did a super amazing job every day for me. They give me a lot of confidence on me like a leader and I’m just super proud of the team.”

Story of the Giro d'Italia volume 2

Bill and Carol McGann's book The Story of the Giro d'Italia, A Year-by-Year History of the Tour of Italy, Vol 2: 1971 - 2011 is available in print, Kindle eBook and audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.

Weather at the start/finish city of Cossonay at 2:20 PM, local time: 23C (73F), sunny, with the wind from the southeast at 6 km/hr (4 mph). No rain is forecast.

The race: Here's the report from second-place Lenny Martinez's Team Bahrain Victorious.

Lenny Martinez delivered a strong performance on Stage 3 of the Tour de Romandie, finishing second after outsprinting most of his general classification (GC) rivals on the final climb in Cossonay.

The 183 km stage, which started and finished in Cossonay, featured a demanding course with 2,457 meters of elevation gain. The final showdown came on the third ascent of Cossonay, the 2.2 km climb to the finish, averaging 5.7%, where Martinez demonstrated his climbing strength against some of the race’s top contenders.

Early in the stage, a breakaway of three riders – including Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ), Bauke Mollema (Lidl–Trek), and Huub Artz (Intermarché–Wanty) – built up a lead of over six minutes. With the gap closing and 53 km to go, Küng launched a solo move, holding a 2:30 gap over the peloton. Max Van der Meulen led the initial chase on the Col de Mollendruz, and as the race approached the final climb, more teams began to commit to closing the gap, including Kamil Gradek, who joined Max in the effort.

Küng was eventually reeled in with 11 km remaining, just ahead of the third and final ascent of Cossonay. The top climbers went head-to-head in the closing kilometers, with Jay Vine (UAE Emirates) launching a decisive attack 900 m from the line to take the stage win. Martinez followed strongly, claiming second place ahead of João Almeida (UAE Emirates), who completed the podium in third.

Jay Vine wins stage three.

Lenny Martinez commented after the stage:
“Vine attacked a bit earlier on the climb. I was thinking, I go, I don’t go. I was a bit behind the guys and a bit blocked also, and I was thinking in the end the group could close on him. He was strong, and okay, second place with a sprint a bit on the flat like this is not too bad at the end.

"Another stage tomorrow, super hard with one-hour climb, and we will see how the body reacts on this long climb.”

Martinez now moves up to 8th in the general classification. The battle for the yellow jersey continues tomorrow with the queen stage featuring the summit finish at Thyon 2000 — a decisive stage for the GC ahead of the final individual time trial in Geneva on Sunday.

Weather at the start/finish city of La Grande Béroche at 2:40 PM, local time: 24C (75F), sunny, with the wind from the east at 6 km/hr (4 mph). There is a 6% chance of rain.

The race: Anders Foldager (Jayco AUla) & Henri Uhlig (Alpecin-Deceuninck) did not start.

Here's the race report from third-place Junior Lecerf's Team Soudal Quick-Step:

Junior Lecerf made a spectacular jump on the general classification of the Tour de Romandie thanks to a smart move and a strong ride that netted him a maiden World Tour podium. The result elevated him a whooping 33 places in the ranking, where he now sits second with three stages to go, the first of which will be another hilly one, to Cossonay.

At the start line.

Soudal Quick-Step took over the reins in the peloton early during Thursday’s trek around the picturesque town of La Grande Béroche, pushing a steady tempo which then gradually increased in the final 60 kilometers, when the peloton began making inroads into the breakaway’s gap. Our team made the race really hard on the Chaumont, a 3km “wall” averaging a brutal 12%, where the tempo led to a major selection, only twenty riders remaining in the group by the time they arrived at the top.

Early in the stage the peloton goes over the Mauborget. There were five riders up the road.

That was the point where Remco Evenepoel decided to bring the race to life, launching a powerful acceleration that put the group on a string. The Olympic Champion continued to insist on the descent and later, when the road flattened, but the others marked his move, leading to a change of tactic. Around 25 kilometers from the finish, five riders went clear, one of whom was Junior Lecerf. The Belgian, a top ten finisher in the beginning of the season at the UAE Tour, helped the quintet take their advantage to 1:30 inside ten kilometers to go, when the leaders began playing a cat-and-mouse game.

Despite this, they still had enough on the chasers, and after a couple of attacks, the victory went to Lorenzo Fortunato (Astana), who took a flyer in the final 500 meters. Lecerf finished in third place, and is just five seconds off the yellow jersey. Evenepoel led home the chasers, almost a minute behind, moving up to sixth place on the general classification of the Tour de Romandie.

“It was a good day for us. We took responsibility and controlled it, we were always in the front and followed all the moves. Remco tried a couple of times, then I had the opportunity to go for the stage and I gave my best. I’m a bit disappointed to miss out on the win, but at the same time, I’m proud with this result, my first World Tour top three. We’ll see what we can do in the remaining stages, but the confidence is there and we are motivated for more”, Junior said after the stage.

Weather at the finish city of Fribourg at 2:15 PM, local time: 22C (71F), sunny, with the wind from the north-northwest at 6 km/hr (4 mph). There is a 4% chance of rain.

The race: Léo Bisiaux (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) & Joel Suter (Tudor Pro Cycling) did not start.

Here's the report from third-place Artem Schmidt's Team INEOS Grenadiers.

Artem Shmidt took his first WorldTour podium with a third place finish on stage one of Tour de Romandie.

The stage is about to start.

Geraint Thomas put in a huge effort on the front as the peloton came into the finishing straight in Fribourg, with Matthew Brennan (Visma - Lease A Bike) launching his sprint to take the victory. Shmidt was hot on his wheel, and sprinted to third on the podium and moved up to fourth on the GC.

A flurry of early breaks saw five riders establish a four minute gap over the bunch, with the Grenadiers controlling much of the pace in the peloton.

The peloton rolls out of the start city of Münchenstein under blue skies.

With the break caught with 20km to go, having completed all three categorised climbs, a bunch sprint was inevitable on the flat finish to Fribourg.

Ben Swift came home 10th in the bunch sprint, while Sam Watson relinquished the yellow jersey, three seconds behind Brennan, to sit second on the GC going into Thursday’s stage.

Bill & Carol McGann's book The Story of the Tour de France, Vol 1: 1903 - 1975 is available in print, Kindle eBook & audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.

Weather at the race city of Saint-Imier at 2:35 PM, lcoal time: 20C (68F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the east-northeast at 13 km/hr (8 mph). There is a 2% chance of rain.

The race: First rider off was Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto) at 3:13 PM.

Here's the report from winner Sam Watson's Team INEOS Grenadiers:

Sam Watson powered to a perfect prologue at the Tour de Romandie to secure his first victory with the Grenadiers.

Watson clocked a time of 4:33.30 to take the win on the 3.44-kilometre course in Saint Imer, Switzerland, just milliseconds ahead of UAE Team Emirates’ Ivo Oliveira.

After securing his first WorldTour victory Watson also pulled on his first overall leader's jersey as a professional. In doing so he became the 50th rider in the team's history to lead the race.

In the start house, Lennert Van Eetvelt was the first rider off.

Artem Shmidt was the next best Grenadier in 13th, while Carlos Rodriguez had a strong start to be in contention with the GC competitors.

Wednesday will see the riders tackle the first stage with 194.4km and four categorised climbs.

Sam Watson:
"I did not expect it to be honest. I was out training in Andorra yesterday and I got a call from the team saying to get to the airport as soon as I could because I’m racing Romandie tomorrow. Here I am with a victory! It’s so special.

"All I felt was pain. I crossed the line and I didn’t know I was leading until the first interview, so it’s quite a nice surprise.

"It’s not really set in yet. To say I’ve won my first WorldTour race with INEOS Grenadiers, my first win with them, is a dream.

"It definitely gives me some confidence going into the next stages. I was at the end of quite a hard three day block so today fills with me confidence. On paper, this race suits me."

Remco Evenepoel finishes his ride. He was eighth.
