The Race:

The 1977 Paris Roubaix was 250.5 km long and raced at an average speed of 40.464 km/hr

There were 149 starters and 43 classified finishers

With about 30 kilometers to go there were 22 riders left in the front group.

Soon thereafter Roger de Vlaeminck flew away and was never seen again, allowing him to earn his record-setting fourth Paris-Roubaix win. So far, only Tom Boonen has managed to equal de Vlaeminck's four wins.
