Story of the Giro d'Italia volume 2

Bill & Carol McGann's book The Story of the Giro d'Italia, Vol 2: 1971 - 2011 is available as an audiobook here.

1958 Tour Quick Facts:

4,319 km raced at an average speed of 36.92 km/hr. 120 starters and 78 classified finishers.

Putting Raphaël Géminiani on a regional team rather than the French national team enraged the emotional rider who then aimed all of his offensive racing efforts at the French team.

He managed to gain the Yellow Jersey in stage 18.

It all came for naught when Charly Gaul taunted Louison Bobet by telling Bobet exactly which corner on the Luitel in stage 21 he would attack.

It was a cold, wet day and Gaul did exactly as he promised.

The time gained was enough to allow him to clinch the lead in the final time trial.
