Rated ascents:
Weather at the start/finish city of Nice at 1:50 PM, local time: 13C (55F), rain, with the wind from the southwest at 8 km/hr (5 mph). The rain should end a little before 3:00 PM.
The race: The real start was given at 12:07 to 118 riders. Not starting were David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ), Elmar Reinders (Jayco AlUla) and Madis Mikhels (Intermarché-Wanty). Early on Olav Kooij (Visma | Lease a bike) abandoned.
Here's the race organiser's stage eight summary:
Matteo Jorgenson bridged a gap of nearly two decades in Paris-Nice when he became the first American since 2006 to win the Race to the Sun on Sunday. It was almost a home win for the Californian, who lives in Nice and trains on the roads of the 109.3-km final stage. Gone on the five climbs of the day with Belgian champion Remco Evenepoel and stage 7 winner Aleksandr Vlasov, the Visma-Lease a Bike rider methodically dropped compatriot and childhood friend Brandon McNulty, the leader at the start, to clinch his greatest win to date. Evenepoel, who shook the race with several attempts, sealed a promising Paris-Nice with a prestigious stage win on the Promenade des Anglais.
Three escapees
The real start was given at 12:05 to 118 riders. David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ), Elmar Reinders (Jayco AlUla) and Madis Mikhels (Intermarché-Wanty) did not start. At kilometre 4, Laurence Pithie (Groupama-FDJ), Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Dstny) and Johan Jacobs (Movistar) broke clear and the pack failed to react. They led the bunch by two minutes but Pithie was dropped in the ascent of Cote de Levens (Km 21). Campenaerts also dropped Jacobs and reached the top on his own.

Campenaerts on his own
At the back, Christian Scaroni (Astana) surged in the last kilometre of the ascent to take two points off KOM leader Mathieu Burgaudeau (TotalEnergies) while stage 1 and 5 sinner Olav Kooij abandoned. In the descent, the Belgian was chased by Laurens de Plus (Ineos), Bruno Armirail (Decathlon-Ag2R), Samuele Battistella (Astana), Scaroni and Jacobs, while a second chasing group included Ion Izagirre (Cofidis), Pello Bilbao (Bahrain), Ewen Costiou (Arkea), Quentin Pacher (Groupama), Harrison Sweeny (EF-Easypost), William Barta and Ruben Guerreiro (Movistar). The two groups merged at Km 30. A further group, involving green jersey Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek), Gijs Leemreize (DSM), Jakob Fuglsand and Hugo Houle (Israel-Premier Tech), was on their heels.
Buitrago out of the race
Scaroni added three points to his tally in Cote de Chateauneuf (Km 37). In the tricky descent, stage 4 winner Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain) and Kevin Geniets (Groupama) were forced out in a crash also involving Carlos Rodriguez and Egan Bernal (Ineos). With 65 km to go, the main contenders caught the group of chasers while Campenaerts went on with his solo ride. In the Cote de Berre les Alpes, the Belgian “rouleur” still retained a 30 seconds lead on the 23-man yellow jersey group, led by Mads Pedersen (Lidl Trek). Scaroni again took three points to come within two points of Mathieu Burgaudeau in the KOM classification.

Evenepoel attacks
Campenaerts was reined in into the 1st category Cote de Peille and Remco Evenepoel attacked twice from the bottom, trimming the leading group down to 11 riders: Evenepoel, Roglic, Vlasov, Grossschartner, McNulty, Jorgenson, Kelderman, Skjelmose, Harper, Plapp and Scaroni. Hampered by his crash, Egan Bernal was in a dropped group with Felix Gall (Decathlon-Ag2R), 40 seconds down. The Belgian champion’s third attack caused more damage as only Jorgenson managed to take his wheel, soon followed by Vlasov. But McNulty lost ground in the final kilometre of the ascent. At the top of Cote de Peille, Vlasov was first ahead of Jorgenson and Evenepoel as the yellow and white jersey holder kept losing time. Scaroni managed to snatch two points to go level with Burgaudeau in the KOM standings.
Aleksandr Vlasov finishes third.
Leading trio
Evenepoel, Jorgenson and Vlasov steadily increased their lead while McNulty could not find any support from the riders chasing with him – Skjelmose, Plapp and Scaroni. In the intermediate sprint of Col d’Eze, the American white jersey holder picked six seconds to strengthen his virtual leader’s jersey ahead of the Belgian champion. The leading trio were left to battle it out for the stage win, if not for the overall victory, which could not elude Jorgenson at this stage. The polka-dot jersey was still at stake and was promised to the rider coming first at the top of Cote des Quatre Chemins, the last in this Paris-Nice. Evenepoel added the KOM leader’s jersey and the green jersey to his stage win and his well-deserved prize as the most aggressive rider in this final stage. He also finished second overall, 30 seconds behind Jorgenson, ahead of McNulty, third 1:47 adrift.

Rated ascents:
Weather at the city of Gilette, on the route, 36 km from the finish, at 2:20 PM, local time: 9C (48F), rain showers, with the wind from the east at 6 km/hr (4 mph).
The race: The official start was given at 12: 32 to 128 riders. Not starting were Arnaud Démare (Arkea-B&B Hotels), Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco-AlUla), Pascal Ackermann and Rick Zabel (Israel-Premier Tech) and Gerben Thijssen (Intermarché).
Here's the race organizer's stage 7 summary:
Aleksandr Vlasov played cat and mouse with the favourites to win stage 7 at the top of La Madone d’Utelle like his compatriot Ilnur Zakarin had done eight years before. The Bora-Hansgrohe rider took advantage of an attack by Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step) in the finale to counterattack, go on his own and win the mountain stage of this 82nd edition of the race in which he finished second overall in 2021.
Evenepoel outsprinted the group of favourites ahead of Vlasov’s team leader Primoz Roglic. Dropped in the final kilometre, Brandon McNulty (UAE Emirate) still managed to salvage his yellow and white jersey with a slim four-seconds lead over fellow-American Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike).

Two pacesetters
The real start was given at 12:30 to 128 riders. Arnaud Démare (Arkea-B&B Hotels), Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco-AlUla), Pascal Ackermann and Rick Zabel (Israel-Premier Tech) and Gerben Thijssen (Intermarché) did not start. Benjamin Thomas (Cofidis), Johan Jacobs (Movistar) and Martijn Tusveld (DSM) attacked from the start. Sandy Dujardin (TotalEnergies), Brent Van Moer (Lotto Dstny), Gijs Leemreize (DSM) chased behind them. At the top of the Cote de Gattieres (Km 10.1), Thomas collected the five points shortly before Tusveld dropped back because of a mechanical. After 35 km, Thomas and Jacobs found themselves alone in the front with Ineos Grenadiers leading the chase one minute behind.
Jacobs alone in the lead
In cold and rainy conditions, several riders called it quits: Timo Roosen (DSM), Pierre Latour and Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies)… In the long descent towards Saint-Jean-la-Rivière, as the Soudal-Quick Step team-mates of Remco Evenepoel were leading the way, Harold Tejada (Astana), 9th overall, was halted by a mechanical and lost precious time changing his front wheel. With 35 km to go, Thomas decided to wait for the bunch and Jacobs found himself on his own up the road. The towering Swiss bravely stayed in the front until the climb to La Madone d’Utelle.

In the climb
Evenepoel changed bikes looking ahead to the final ascent and the peloton trailed Jacobs by 35 seconds when it reached the bottom. The Swiss was reeled in in the first kilometre of the climb as leaders like David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) and Pello Bilbao (Bahrain) were losing ground. Louis Vervaeke (Soudal-Quick Step) led the way up the road until the 8-km-to-go mark when Laurens de Plus (Ineos Grenadiers) took over. At the intermediate sprint of the day (Km 96.7), Egan Bernal surged and took the 10 points and 6 seconds up for grabs, ahead of Ilan van Wilder and Evenepoel.
Brandon McNulty finished 27 seconds after Vlasov, good enough to keep him in yellow by 4 seconds.

The Belgian champion waited until 4.4 km to launch his attack but Brandon McNulty and Matteo Jorgenson reacted easily. Aleksandr Vlasov seized his chance to counterattack and go on his own. The battle between the GC contenders resumed in the last two kilometeres, when Evenepoel raised the pace again, dropping McNulty and Bernal, but taking Roglic, Jorgenson, Buitrago and Skjelmose with him. The Belgian champion sprinted for second place ahead of Roglic and McNulty crossed the line 30 seconds after Vlasov, to narrowly save his leader’s jersey.
Brandon McNulty will start the final stage in yellow.

Here's the race organizer's stage six summary:
Danish champion Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek), helped all day by his team-mate Mads Pedersen, stole the show between Sisteron and La Colle-sur-Loup on Friday to win the 6th stage of Paris-Nice in a three-man breakaway. Gone with him in the short but gruelling last climb, Americans Brandon McNulty and Matteo Jorgenson finished second and third and the UAE Team Emirates rider took back the yellow jersey he handed for two days to Australian Luke Plapp. Jorgenson, who launched the decisive move in the finale, will sport the white jersey in Saturday’s modified mountain stage.

Hectic start
The real start was given at 11:50 to 139 riders. Nils Eekhoff and Tobias Lund Andresen (both DSM-Firmenich) and Silvan Dillier (Alpecin-Deceuninck) did not start. After 12 km, Cédric Beullens (Lotto Dstny), Jonas Rutsch (EF-Easypost) and Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies) managed to part with the peloton but were caught three kilometres later, when KOM leader Mathieu Burgaudeau (TotalEnergies) went in turn, with fellow-Frenchman Rémi Cavagna (Movistar). But the peloton, led by a hyper-active Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek), did not let anybody go.
KOM battle
At the foot of the first climb of the day, Col des Lèques (2nd cat. km 69.8), Christian Scaroni (Astana) – second in the KOM classification – attacked on his own, but he was caught before the summit by a bunch led by Burgaudeau. A group of six emerged 1 km from the top, with Scaroni, Burgaudeau, Bruno Armirail (Decathlon-Ag2R), Georg Zimmermann (Intermarché-Wanty), Michel Storer (Tudor) and Gijs Leemreize (DSM). Scaroni beat Burgaudeau at the top to take two points off the Frenchman’s lead.
Ten riders in the lead
Into the next ascent, Col de Luens (km 83), the break had been joined by Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek), Cedric Beullens (Lotto Dstny), Laurence Pithie (Groupama-FDJ) and Marco Haller (Bora-Hasngrohe) and the ten were leading the pack by two minutes. Still the gap rapidly decreased as Omar Fraile and Jonathan Castroviejo (Ineos Grenadiers) led the peloton at a frantic pace. At the top, Burgaudeau led Scaroni to take back the two points lost in the previous climb and added one more in the following Cote de la Blachette (km 92.6).
Peloton splits
The gap then stabilised at around a minute until the 2nd category Col de Gourdon, when Ineos Grenadiers brought the bunch back on the leading group. Burgaudeau still managed to sprint ahead of Scaroni for five more points. The peloton split in several groups in the descent, with all the main favourites in the front 35-man bunch. At the foot of the gruelling Cote de La Colle-sur-Loup, the Bora-Hansgrohe upped the tempo and led out Primoz Roglic.
Roglic shoots first
The 2022 Paris-Nice winner launched a blistering attack, but he was soon caught by the other leading favourites. In a slippery turn, stage 4 winner Santiago Buitrago crashed and suffered a mechanical which cost him a lot. At the same moment, Matteo Jorgenson surged and reached the top on his own. He was later joined by Skjelmose and McNulty. The three reached the intermediate sprint of Tourrettes-sur-Loup in that order, with a 20 seconds lead over a yellow jersey group including Roglic, Plapp, Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step), Jay Vine (UAE Emirates), Wilco Kelderman (Visma-Lease a Bike), Egan Bernal (Ineos-Grenadiers), Felix Gall and Aurélien Paret-Peintre (Decathlon-Ag2R), Aleksandra Vlasov (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Harold Tejada (Astana). The leading trio gained momentum and were left to battle it out for the stage victory.
Skjelmose the faster man
Ironically for Jorgenson, who had done most of the work in the finale, Skjelmose was the faster man in the last stretch and he went on to win the stage while McNulty took back the yellow and white jersey he had left to Luke Plapp for two days. The American Visma-Lease a Bike rider will be content with being second overall and taking the white jersey into Saturday’s 104-km mountain stage to La Madone d’Utelle.
New GC leader Brandon McNulty

Rated ascents:
Weather at the finish city of Sisteron at 1:45 PM, local time: 13C (56F), sunny, with the wind from the south at 11 km/hr (7 mph). No rain is forecast.
The race: Here's the race organizer's stage five summary:
Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease a Bike) asserted himself as the undisputable fastest man in this Paris-Nice, outsprinting Mads Pedersen on the line in Sisteron exactly like he did in stage 1 on Sunday to snatch his second stage victory, his third in the Race to the Sun. Germany’s Pascal Ackermann (Israel Premier Tech) was third. An eight-man break tried all day to confirm the trend that Sisteron stages on Paris-Nice did not finish in a bunch sprint, but the sprinters teams had other ideas. A cautious Luke Plapp retained his overall leader’s yellow and white jersey.
Six in the front
The real start was given at 11:55 to 145 riders. Andrea Piccolo (EF-Easypost) did not start and Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) did not take the real start. Pierre Latour (TotalEnergies), who lives in the area, attacked straightaway. He was rapidly joined by five other riders, his team-mate Sandy Dujardin, Alexis Gougeard (Cofidis), Dries de Bondt (Decathlon-Ag2R), Mathias Norsgaard (Movistar) and Mathijs Paasschens (Lotto Dstny). The five received the go-ahead from the peloton and the lead remained stable at around 2:25 until the half-mark.
The day's early break containing Dries De Bondt, Alexis Gougeard, Mathijs Paasschens, Mathias Norsgaard, Sandy Dujardin, & Pierre Latour. With 100 km to go they had a lead of 1min 45sec
Eight in the lead
On the first 3rd category climb of the day, Col de la Sausse (km 82.5), Latour, a team-mate of KOM leader Mathieu Burgaudeau, collected the three points. The gap went down by half until the second ascent, Col de Peyruergue (Km 118), at the foot of which two other Lotto Dstny riders, Victor Campenaerts and Pascal Eenkhooorn, parted company with the bunch and started chasing behind the break, which they joined at kilometre 116. Latour was fastest at the top and again in the following ascents, Cote de la Rochette-du-Buis (Km 128) and Col de la Pigière (km 146.2).
Sprinters out
The succession of climbs made life difficult for several sprinters, starting with Dutchmen Arvid de Kleijn, winner of stage 2, and Fabio Jakobsen, winner of a stage in 2022, who both called it quits. In the finale, the breakaway group started to show signs of tension while the sprinters teams (Lidl-Trek, Visma-Lease a Bike) upped the tempo. With 30 km to go, Gougeard and Paasschens were dropped by the other escapees. Latour, who was named the most aggressive rider of the day, was reined in five kilometres later. The rest of the leading group finally lay the arms down shortly after the first crossing of the finish line for the only intermediate sprint of the day.
Bunch sprint
Several attempts took place after the junction, Remco Evenepoel among others trying to shake up the pack unsuccessfully. A bunch sprint was unavoidable and the sprinters trains took time to organise. Lidl-Trek seemed to take the upper hand in the last kilometre but probably led Mads Pedersen out a little too early. The former world champion lost momentum and was pipped on the line by Kooij. The Dane earned the consolation of taking the green jersey away from New Zealand’s Laurence Pithie (Groupama-FDJ).

Rated ascents:
Weather at Villié-Morgon, on the route, 11 kilometers from the finish, at 1:55 PM local time: 9C (48F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the north-northeast at 6 km/hr (4 mph). There is just a 2% chance of rain, though the peloton was rained on earlier.
The race: Here's the race organizer's stage four summary.
Lucas Plapp (Jayco AlUla) and Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain-Victorious) boldly outwitted the favourites to share the laurels at the top of Mont Brouilly on Wednesday, the Colombian winning the 4th stage of Paris-Nice while the Australian champion, second in the stage, took over the overall leader’s yellow and white jersey.

Plapp was the first to launch the decisive move in the 1st category Col du Fut d’Avenas and he was later joined by Buitrago, already noted for his two stage wins in the Giro d’Italia. The pair worked perfectly together while the favourites were playing a waiting game behind them. Matthias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek), Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick-Step) and Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) surged too late to becontent with collecting a few bonus seconds on the finish line. France’s Mathieu Burgaudeau was part of the four-man break which allowed him to strengthen his polka-dot jersey on the several climbs of the day.
Four-man break
The real start was given at midday to 150 riders. Arnaud De Lie (Lotto-Dstny), Oliver Naesen (Decathlon-Ag2R) and Michael Schwarzmann (Israel-Premier Tech) did not start. After several attempts, which saw the KOM contenders try their luck in turn, Christian Scaroni managed to take a short lead to tackle the 2nd category Cote de Mont Saint-Vincent in the lead with the peloton on his heels. In the descent, the Italian was joined by polka-dot jersey holder Mathieu Burgaudeau (TotalEnergies), Swiss Stefan Bissegger (EF-Easypost) and Belgian Jasper de Buyst (Lotto Dstny). The four rapidly increased their lead, which settled at 3:30 at kilometre 68.
Burgaudeau picks points
In the first climb, several sprinters were dropped, including three times stage winner Michael Matthews, who finally called it quits. When they reached the second climb of the day, Col de Boubon, the four escapees retained a 2:50 lead over the pack. Burgaudeau strengthened his KOM lead by picking five points and the Frenchman did the same on Cote de Vauxrenard at kilometre 104.1 as the race was going through some of the most famous vineyards of Beaujolais (Julienas, Fleurie, Morgon).
Scaroni on his own
At the foot of Col de Durbize (Km 125), the peloton, led by UAE Team Emirates and Ineos Grenadiers riders, was back within a minute of the escapees. As a result, Scaroni and Burgaudeau broke clear of their breakaway companions. The Italian went on his own one kilometre from the summit as Bora-Hansgrohe riders raised the tempo in the bunch. Burgaudeau brought his KOM tally to 28 points before being reined in by the pack. Before the first ascent of Mont Brouilly, Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates), the 2018 Paris-Nice winner, threw the towel.
Bonus seconds for Evenepoel
Scaroni managed to reach the top in the lead with a 20-seconds lead over the bunch, to finally collect 21 KOM points thanks to his solo effort. He was caught in the descent (Km 145) as the peloton split in several groups. The intermediate sprint of the day saw Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic battle it out, the Belgian champion taking the upper-hand to collect six seconds while the Slovenian picked four, Laurence Pithie finishing third to add four points to his green jersey.
Plapp and Buitrago lead the way
In the 1st category Col du Fut d’Avenas, Lucas Plapp (Jayco AlUla) went on his own as white-jersey holder Finn Fisher-Black (UAE) was losing ground. He was joined near the top by Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain), who reached the summit ahead of him. The two went on to lead the pack by 20 seconds in the descent as David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) and Aurélien Paret-Peintre (Decathlon-Ag2R) crashed and lost touch. Ion Izagirre (Cofidis) was also dropped as his brother Gorka had given up. Only 22 riders were left in contention behind the two escapees with 15 km left to go.
Buitrago goes all the way
Jay Vine (UAE) took charge of the chase until 10 km to go but the gap increased when nobody pulled with him and the two escapees tackled the second ascent of Mont Brouilly with a 40 seconds lead over the chase. The favourites – Evenepoel, Roglic, Brandon McNulty, Egan Bernal, Skjelmose – played hide and seek and waited for the final 600 metres to attack. By then, Buitrago had already crossed the line and raised his arms with a 11-seconds lead over Plapp.
Santiago Buitrago wins stage four.

Weather at the start/finish city of Auxerre at 2:00 PM, local time: 11C (51F), cloudy, with the wind from the southwest at 21 km/hr (13 mph). There is a 9% chance of rain.
The race: Here's the race organizer's stage three report.
UAE Team Emirates staged a perfectly cohesive effort around Auxerre on Tuesday to win the 26.9 team time trial third stage of Paris-Nice and hand the leader’s jersey to Brandon McNulty. The American, one of the four riders to cross the line in the front for UAE, leads his team-mates Finn Fisherblack, Joao Almeida and Jay Vine overall, with Australia’s Michael Matthews 5th, 15 seconds behind. At an average speed of 51.4 kph, UAE Team Emirates were the most consistent outfit in 31 minutes and 23 seconds, ahead of specialist teams Jayco AlUla, 15 seconds behind, and EF-Easypost 20 seconds adrift. The rain which fell at the very end of the day, might have affected the performances of the later teams as Soudal-Quick Step, fastest at the intermediate mark, faltered in the finale.

Astana set the bar high
The first team on the road, starting from Auxerre’s Abbé Deschamps stadium, was Israel Premier Tech and they set the first mark of the day at 33:03, their leader Jakob Fuglsang crossing the line on his own. But the first outfit to set the bar reasonably high were Astana, who staged a cohesive team effort to lead Alexey Lutsenko over the line in 32:02, a minute off the opening time. Most teams chose to drop riders along the way and lead a designated leader to the line.

UAE Team Emirates set the tone
The Kazakh team's time at the 14.1-km intermediate mark was successively improved by UAE Team Emirates and Jayco AlUla, who found themselves with only four riders halfway through. UAE Team Emirates, by contrast, still had five men under the red flame and their combined effort led by Finn Fisherblack ahead of Brandon McNulty and Joao Almeida gave them a fastest time of 31:23 at an average speed of 51.4 kph. Their intermediate fastest time held until Soudal-Quick Step came into action and the team of Remco Evenepoel was leading by 17 seconds at the 14.1-km mark.

Here comes the rain
Rain started to pour as 15 teams had completed the course and it apparently affected the Belgian outfit, as they finally made it to the finish 21 seconds slower than UAE, in 4th place. Bora-Hansgrohe also looked in contention until the intermediate time but had only Primoz Roglic, Matteo Sobrero and Aleksandr Vlasov left and finally lost 57 seconds on the best mark in 10th place. Visma-Lease a Bike, sporting their controversial new helmet, did not fare much better, having to settle for 6th place, 38 seconds adrift. UAE Team Emirates were not to be toppled and their collective effort handed the yellow and white jersey to Brandon McNulty ahead of an intriguing hilly 4th stage to Mont Brouilly.

Rated ascents:
Weather at the finish city of Montargis at 1:30 PM, local time: 12C (54F), sunny, with the wind from the south at 8 km/hr (5 mph). There is just a 1% chance of rain.
The race: Here's the race organizer's stage two summary.
Perfectly led-out by veteran Matteo Trentin, Arvid de Kleijn (Tudor) upset the favourites to win the 179-km second stage of Paris-Nice in Montargis on Monday. The 2023 Milan-Turin winner surged in the final stretch to narrowly beat New Zealand’s Laurence Pithie, who took the race leader’s yellow and white jersey away from Dutchman Olav Kooij, never in contention in the finale. Another Dutchman, Dylan Groenewegen (Team AlUla) was third. France’s Mathieu Burgaudeau took advantage of the two climbs of the day to take the polka-dot jersey away from Germany’s Jonas Rutsch (EF-Easypost).
Visma | Lease a Bike, dsm-firmenich and Bahrain-Victorious lead the peloton
KOM battle
The real start was given at 12:33 to 154 riders. All the riders who finished stage 1 were at the start. Jonas Rutsch (EF-Easypost) and Mathieu Burgaudeau (TotalEnergies), the two leading riders in the KOM classification, attacked from the flag to tackle the first climb of the day from the front. The bunch gave them the go-ahead and they were leading by more than three minutes after 10 km. At the top of Côte des Mesnuls, Rutsch beat Burgaudeau to add three points to his tally. The pair then waited for the pack and the break was over after 15 kms.
Burgaudeau conquers polka-dot
Seeing that the pack was riding at a leisurely pace (32.4 kph in the first hour), Pascal Eenkhoorn (Lotto Dstny) decided to attack at kilometre 25. But he only stayed at the front for 15 kms before being reeled in. On the second and last ascent of the day, Cote de Villeconin, TotalEnergies used the perfect tactics to topple Rutsch, sending Burgaudeau and Pierre Latour upfront to collect six points and four points respectively while the German had to be content with two. The move put Burgaudeau on 15 points ahead of the EF-Easypost rider on 13. The Frenchman was also awarded the most aggressive rider prize for the stage.
Pedersen back on Kooij
The peloton then took it relatively easy until the intermediate sprint of the day in Puiseaux (Km 131.9), whose bonus seconds spurred the pack into reaction. A minor crash involved Steff Cras (TotalEnergies), Gianni Moscon (Soudal Quck-Step) and Donavan Grondin (Arkea), but they were unhurt. The sprint was won by Danny van Poppel (Bora-Hasngrohe) ahead of Mads Pedersen, who picked four seconds and found himself level on GC time with Olav Kooij. Mattias Skjelmose (also Lidl-Trek) was third.
De Kleijn wins bunch sprint
The stage was set for a bunch sprint and the pack slowly raised the tempo. With 16 km to go, Madis Mikhels, 5th in Les Mureaux, crashed but was quickly back on his bike. Lukasz Owsian Arkea-B&B) also hit the tarmac with 10 km to go. While the sprinters trains were battling it out for positions in the finale, the Tudor team-mates of Arvid de Kleijn took the reins and perfectly led out Arvid de Kleijn for the best result of his career. Hopeful Pithie had to be content with second place after being third yesterday, but consistency paid and he will tackle Tuesday’s team time trial with the yellow and white jersey on his back.
New GC leader Laurence Pithie will start stage three in yellow.

Here's the race organizer's stage one report:
Already a stage winner last year on Paris-Nice, Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease a Bike) made it two on Sunday when he surged on the line to outsprint pre-race favourite Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) in Les Mureaux. The Dutchman, one of few sprinters able to stay in the front despite the bumpy terrain, made the most of the day to seize the yellow jersey ahead of a sprint stage to Montargis on Monday. In-form New Zealander Laurence Pithie was third in the 157.7-km ride which saw the GC contenders battle it out in the finale, Remco Evenepoel showing a lot of ambition in the last two hills of the day. Other stage’s laurels went to Germany’s Jonas Rutsch (EF-EasyPost) who took the KOM lead thanks to the points collected on the day’s three-man break.

Three from the gun:
The real start was given at 13:15 to 154 riders. Three riders, Mathieu Burgaudeau (TotalEnergies), Stefan Bissegger and Jonas Rutsch (both EF Education-Easypost), attacked from the gun. Two of them – Bissegger and Burgaudeau – were former stage winners. In the third category climb of Bazemont (Km 12.9), Burgaudeau collected three points ahead of Rutsch and Bissegger. The gap was then at 2:35. It reached a maximum of three minutes after an hour or racing, when the peloton, led by Mads Pedersen’s Lidl-Trek team-mates took the chase in their hands.
Rutsch takes KOM points
The gap went down to 1:30 when the three escapees reached Cote d’Herbeville (Km 90.8) at the top of which Rutsch outsprinted Burgaudeau for the three points. The battle between the three was hard-fought and Rutsch just had enough energy left to outpace Burgaudeau on the second ascent of Cote de Bazemont to add three points to his tally while the peloton was reeling the break in. In the process, Bissegger was dropped by the pack.
The Evenepoel show
The peloton regrouped to tackle the finale, and especially the bonus sprint in Montainville (km 140) awarding six seconds to the first rider on the line. All the GC contenders moved to the front but Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike) was the first in action and he took the other leaders off-guard to seize the bonus ahead of Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step) and Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers). After the sprint, Evenepoel decided to go ahead with Jorgenson and three other riders, but the peloton reacted. In the last climb of the day (Km 145.3), Egan Bernal was the first on the move, but was quickly counter-attacked by Evenepoel, who went again, this time followed by Primoz Roglic (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Finn Fisher-Black (UAE Team), who took the KOM points.
Olav Kooij (right) just beats Mads Pedersen for the win
Turgis goes
France’s Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies) took advantage of a lull to attack with 10 km to go and quickly led the pack by 15 seconds. But the bunch gathered forces again and the Frenchman was reined in with 2 km to go. The hilly final stretch was decisive, as planned, and Mads Pedersen’s Lidl-Trek team-mates seized the reins. The former world champion was the first in action but surged a little bit too early and was pipped on the line by Kooij.
Olav Kooij will start stage two in the leader's yellow jersey
