Cycling's 50 Triumphs and Tragedies

The race: Winner Alexis Vuillermoz's Ag2r team posted this short note:

"I was focused on the last climb, the Mur de Livron. Romain was a decisive player by going along with a lot of attacks, especially with Lilian Calmejane and Warren Barguil. I actually had less good legs than yesterday and at the foot of the wall, I did not really believe in my chances. As I climbed, I felt good and when Anthony Perez made a move, I was able to accelerate.

"What makes me happy is to have been able to catch back up on the climb. I felt good there, but I was careful because the descent is very complicated. I did not manage to win a race last year, so this win feels good. In 2018 I was coming off two fantastic seasons where I was winning and playing a big part for the team, and already the season has been difficult with crashes and injuries. This is the first win of the year for the AG2R La Mondiale team. We’ve really been knocking on the door in recent weeks, there is no doubt about that. So winning here is very good for the morale.” - ALEXIS VUILLERMOZ

THE NUMBER: 1, Alexis Vuillermoz’s win is the first victory of the season for the AG2R La Mondiale team. This is the ninth success of his career. Romain Bardet took seventh place at the Drôme Classic.
