Weather at Jabal al Akhdhar at 9:00 AM, local time: 20C (68F), sunny, with the wind from the east at 8 km/hr (5 mph). No rain is forecast. The temperature is forecast to climb to 31C (87F) at 2:00 PM.

The race: Rui Oliveira (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) did not start.

Here's the race organizer's stage five summary:

The final stage of the Tour of Oman delivered a climbers’ showdown on the slopes of Green Mountain, where the week’s main favorite, Adam Yates, ultimately failed to turn the situation to his advantage, despite having won the previous two editions. The UAE Emirates XRG leader, who started the day 32 seconds behind red jersey Mauro Schmid, managed to close the gap on the Swiss rider, but not on Italy’s Christian Scaroni, who produced a flawless climb, showing both patience and strength.

Alongside his Spanish teammate Cristian Rodriguez in the final kilometers, Scaroni launched his move in the last 100 meters to claim a prestigious victory atop Green Mountain and simultaneously move into the overall lead. Already a Giro stage winner last year, he now shares this triumph with his Spanish teammate from XDS Astana, who stood alongside him both on the stage podium and in the final overall standings. An Astana blue-jersey one-two had previously been achieved at the Tour of Oman by Alexey Lutsenko and Miguel Angel Lopez, marking the Kazakh team’s fourth overall victory in the Sultanate.

The 2026 podium is completed by Adam Yates, recorded in the same second as Mauro Schmid (4th) and Paul Double (5th), who were separated by the countback of stage placings accumulated since the start of the race.

45 km of Battle to Form the Breakaway
The stage began at the foot of the imposing Nizwa Fort, built in the 17th century. The fifth stage rolled out without Rui Oliveira (UAE Emirates XRG), leaving 110 riders at the start. An ultra-fast pace in the opening kilometers shut down the first attacks, but a group gradually formed at km 16 featuring Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Emirates XRG), Thibaud Gruel (Groupama-FDJ United), Florian Dauphin (TotalEnergies), Erlend Blikra, Fredrik Dversnes (Uno-X Mobility), and Baptiste Veistroffer (Lotto-Intermarché).

Among them, the top three in the points classification prepared to contest the intermediate sprint, but they never gained more than 25 seconds and were reeled in by the peloton at km 32. A new breakaway then took shape between km 39 and km 44, with five riders going clear: Price-Pejtersen (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Albanese (EF Education-EasyPost), Florian Dauphin (TotalEnergies), Fredrik Dversnes, and Hvideberg (Uno-X Mobility). They passed through the Al Hilayw intermediate sprint (km 46) with a 55-second advantage.

UAE Emirates XRG and Soudal-Quick Step Control the Break
The five leaders extended their gap to 1’30” at km 50, which grew to 2’15” by km 70. However, the teams of defending champion Adam Yates and Valentin Paret-Peintre—last year’s Green Mountain stage winner—kept the margin under control, limiting it to 2’50” at km 100. Their determination allowed them to enter the final 20 kilometers with a 2’05” lead, but the sustained pressure left them little hope.

At the foot of the final climb, Price-Pejtersen was the first to lose contact, while the peloton trailed the four remaining escapees by just 1’45”.

An Astana One-Two
The breakaway’s fate was sealed on the slopes of Green Mountain. With 3 km to go, Dversnes—the last survivor—was caught by a reduced elite group of around twenty riders, though without Valentin Paret-Peintre, who had been dropped 500 meters earlier. Adam Yates and then Nairo Quintana took turns raising the pace, further thinning the contenders, while red jersey Mauro Schmid was also distanced.

GC leader Mauro Schmid is dropped on the final climb.

Under the flamme rouge, only Scaroni, Rodriguez (Astana), Yates (UAE), Double, Plapp (Jayco), and Quintana (Movistar) remained in contention. Among them, Luke Plapp attacked with 500 meters to go and looked set for victory, but in the final 100 meters he was caught by Christian Scaroni and Cristian Rodriguez. The two Astana riders formed a winning duo, claiming both the Jabal Al Akhdar stage and the overall title at the Tour of Oman.

Weather at the finish city of Sohar at 9:00 AM, local time: 23C (74F), sunny, with the wind from the west at 6 km/hr (4 mph). No rain is forecest. By noon the temperature is forecast to rise to 28C (83F).

The race: Bart Lemmen (Visma | Lease a Bike) did not start after injuring his wrist in a stage 3 crash. Sergio Samitier (Cofidis) also did not start.

Here's the race organizer's stage four summary:

A bunch sprint finish was the expected scenario at the end of the coastal route that concluded in Sohar. The day’s breakaway allowed Patryk Goszczurny to further solidify his gold jersey in the combativity classification, but not to dream of winning Stage 4. The two attackers of the day, caught with 3 km to go, made way for a hard-fought showdown won by Erlend Blikra (Uno-X Mobility). The Norwegian sprinter, who had finished fourth on the opening stage, this time managed to beat all his rivals on the line. He finished ahead of very young French sprinter Emmanuel Houcou, 22, who came close to a major upset, and Juan Sebastian Molano, the winner at Bimmah Sink Hole three days ago. The sprinters’ battle did not affect the overall classification leaders. Mauro Schmid will start tomorrow’s final stage in the red jersey, but to keep it he will have to withstand the assault of the pure climbers on the way to the finish at Green Mountain.

Stage winner Erlend Blikra.

Two riders in the breakaway
The meeting point was set by the sea at Al Sawadi Beach for the start of Stage 4, where Bart Lemmen (Visma–Lease a Bike) and Sergio Samitier (Cofidis) were absent. Among the 112 riders still in the race, Patryk Goszczurny (Visma–Lease a Bike) and Baptiste Veistroffer (Lotto–Intermarché), the two leaders of the combativity classification, immediately showed interest in the points on offer at the intermediate sprints. But only the 19-year-old Pole eventually managed to open a gap at km 2, alongside Belgian rider Warre Vangheluwe (Soudal–Quick Step). The duo reached the 30-km mark with a 2’30’’ lead, and as expected it was the gold jersey that crossed first at the As Suwayq sprint (km 39.6).

Jayco-AlUla keep an eye on the leading duo
The Jayco-AlUla team of overall leader Mauro Schmid took charge of controlling the attackers, keeping their advantage at around two minutes. That margin was reduced to 1’10’’ at the Saham intermediate sprint (km 113.5), where Goszczurny collected three points to secure the combativity classification outright. His mission accomplished, the two brave riders of the day nevertheless clung to a 50’’ lead as they entered the final 20 kilometres.

And Blikra strikes
Hopes faded for the breakaway with a 30’’ advantage at 15 km from the finish, then just 15’’ with 5 km to go. The adventure ended for Goszczurny and Vangheluwe with 3 km remaining. Another battle was underway for sprinters’ positioning ahead of the finish. Under the flamme rouge, Alpecin-Deceuninck were the most visible at the front of the peloton. But on the finish line, it was Uno-X Mobility sprinter Erlend Blikra who imposed his power, ahead of young Frenchman Emmanuel Houcou and Juan Sebastian Molano.

Mauro Schmid remains the GC leader.

Weather at Al Hamra, on the route, near the finish, at 8:50 AM, local time: 21C (69F), sunny, with the wind from the southwest at 3 km/hr (2 mph). No rain is forecast. The temperature is forecast to climb to 25C (77F) by noon.

The race: Here's the race organizer's stage three summary.

The third stage of the Tour of Oman was marked by numerous early attacks, largely initiated by red jersey Baptiste Veistroffer, who once again found himself in the breakaway as part of a seven-rider group. This move was eventually neutralised by the peloton, with the top climbers battling it out on the final 3.8-kilometre ascent on the slopes of Eastern Mountain in Misfat Al Abriyeen.

At the end of the climb—approached in less-than-ideal conditions by Valentin Paret-Peintre and Adam Yates after crashes at 8 km and 6 km from the finish respectively—it was Mauro Schmid who claimed the stage victory and took over the lead of the general classification. The Swiss champion, who had already made his mark last Friday by winning the Muscat Classic, is now stepping up to a new level and positioning himself as a credible contender for overall victory.

The red jersey in the breakaway
Following the withdrawals of Marcos Freire (UAE Emirates XRG), Sepp Kuss (Visma–Lease a Bike), Joshua Kench (Groupama-FDJ United) and Alberto Bettiol (XDS Astana), the peloton set off on stage 3 of the Tour of Oman with 115 riders. From the very first kilometre, Baptiste Veistroffer proved as aggressive as he has been since arriving in the Sultanate, launching several attacks. The prospect of seeing the red jersey in the breakaway prompted immediate reactions to each of his moves.

At kilometre 10, a large group of 23 riders formed around the “Sanglier” of Lotto-Intermarché and pulled 50 seconds clear. Among them, five riders broke away at km 23: Rui Oliveira (UAE Emirates XRG), Quentin Pacher (Groupama-FDJ United), Alex Baudin (EF Education-EasyPost), Jonas Hvideberg (Uno-X) and Baptiste Veistroffer (Lotto-Intermarché). They were joined at km 28 by Jensen Plowright (Alpecin-Premier Tech) and Stanislaw Aniolkowski (Cofidis).

Seven riders out front
While their former companions were reeled back in by the peloton, the seven riders in the break gained ground and reached the intermediate sprint at Al Aya (km 71.6) with a 3’15’’ advantage. They were kept at arm’s length by riders from Soudal-Quick Step and XDS Astana, who controlled the pace at the front of the peloton. The chase intensified upon entering the final 50 kilometres, with the attackers’ lead down to 2’05’’. Aware of the need to defend their chances, the breakaway riders increased the tempo and lost Quentin Pacher at km 149, leaving them with a 1’45’’ cushion.

Crashes for Paret-Peintre and Yates
Despite their efforts and good cooperation among the six remaining riders, the heat and accumulated distance began to take their toll. The situation worsened with 10 km to go, as their advantage shrank to 45 seconds. The finale was disrupted by two crashes: the first brought down Valentin Paret-Peintre at 8 km from the finish, while the second involved Adam Yates. The top two from the 2025 edition both managed to rejoin the peloton, which swept up the attackers on the final climb, 2 kilometres from the line. Around twenty contenders remained in a reduced group of the race’s best climbers.

Nairo Quintana launched the first attack, but the Colombian was caught in the final kilometre, where rider number 1 made his move. In the closing hectometres, the duel came down to Mauro Schmid and Christian Scaroni, with the Swiss champion emerging on top.

Weather at the finish city of Yitti at 9:00 AM, local time: 26C (78F), sunny, with the wind from the southwest at 6 km/hr (4 mph). No rain is forecast. The temperature is forecast to climb to 28C (82F) by noon.

The race: Here's the race organizer's report.

There are two ways to win in the always unpredictable finale of the Yiti Hills stage. Either by standing out among the peloton’s best puncheurs, as Diego Ulissi did in 2023, or by banking on a successful breakaway, like Louis Vervaeke in 2025, and now Baptiste Veistroffer, the author of a heroic solo ride in the finale of the longest stage of the Tour of Oman (191.4 km).

The Lotto–Intermarché rider had already shown his ambition by spending 151 kilometers alone at the front during the Muscat Classic. This time, it was from a five-man breakaway, later reduced to a trio, that the young Frenchman executed a plan he had carefully prepared. The former triathlete dropped his last two companions, Patryk Goszczurny and Tim Marsman, on the penultimate steep ramp of the day to claim his first professional victory solo and take the red leader’s jersey of the Tour of Oman.

In the general classification, he leads Henok Mulubrhan and Thibaud Gruel, who contested the peloton sprint on the finish line and are respectively 25 and 27 seconds behind in the overall standings.

The white jersey in the breakaway
After the withdrawals of Brieuc Rolland (Groupama-FDJ United) and Einer Rubio (Movistar), 121 riders remain at the start, at the foot of the Al Rustaq Fort, built in the 13th century. From kilometer zero, the holder of the white and gold jerseys, Patryk Goszczurny (Visma–Lease a Bike), shows his ambition to defend his position in the combativity classification.

After two kilometers, he is joined by Gil Gelders (Soudal–Quick Step), Tim Marsman (Alpecin–Premier Tech), Baptiste Veistroffer (Lotto–Intermarché) and Said Al Rahbi (Oman) to form the breakaway of the day, which passes kilometer 20 with a three-minute lead over the peloton.

Al Rahbi and Gelders dropped on the descent
The five attackers extend their advantage to four minutes, recorded at the intermediate sprint of Wadi Al Maawil (km 59). This lead is slightly reduced by the combined work of UAE and Jayco-AlUla as they approach the climb of Fanja (km 90.5), where the gap is down to 3’05’’.

More importantly, the group loses two riders on the descent: Gil Gelders and Said Al Rahbi are forced to let the other three continue at the front. At the intermediate sprint of Al Kabar (km 137.9), the trio regains a margin of 3’45’’, allowing Patryk Goszczurny in particular to stock up on combativity points. The 19-year-old collects more points at the summit of the Bousher Al Amerat climb (km 152.1), where the peloton closes in to 2’45’’.

Henok Mulueberhan beats Thibaud Gruel for second in the field sprint.

Stage and overall victory for Veistroffer
With 25 km to go, the leading trio senses the threat of the peloton at 1’55’’. The danger becomes more tangible on the Halamriyah climb, as Jayco-AlUla bring the peloton back to 1’05’’. Baptiste Veistroffer reads the situation and launches a solo attack in the final section of this 900-meter wall with an average gradient of 9.4%, dropping his two breakaway companions.

He charges on without looking back toward the Yiti Hills climb, which he tackles with a 45-second lead over the peloton. It is enough to complete his solo effort, take the stage victory and seize the overall lead.

Weather at the finish at Bimmah at 9:00 AM, local time: 26C (78F), cloudy, with the wind from the south-southeast at 8 km/hr (5 mph). By noon the temperature is forecast to be 27C (81F). No rain is forecast.

The race: Here's the organizer's race report:

The opening stage of the Tour of Oman unfolded according to expectations, with a largely flat profile, apart from a short climb that triggered the formation of a Spanish-Polish breakaway trio, which was caught with 22 kilometres to go. A bunch sprint then took shape within the peloton on a seaside road where the fastest riders prepared for the finale.

In the final hectometres, UAE Emirates XRG sprinter Juan-Sebastian Molano, led out by Rui Oliveira, proved the most powerful. The two-time Vuelta stage winner (2022–23) narrowly beat his compatriot Fernando Gaviria, now riding for Caja Rural-Seguros RGA. The 19-year-old Polish rider Patryk Goszczurny (Visma | Lease a Bike) claimed the gold jersey for combativity thanks to the points he collected during his breakaway, as well as the white jersey.

Three Riders Up Front
The peloton, made up of 123 riders, lined up for the first stage in front of the Sultanate of Oman’s Ministry of Tourism in Muscat. The pace was high from the opening kilometre, but it was on the slopes of the Bousher Al Amerat climb that two Omani riders, Mohammed Al Wahibi and Said Al Rahbi, launched the first attack, joined by Patryk Goszczurny (Visma | Lease a Bike) and Jose Luis Faura (Burgos-Burpellet-BH). While the two Omani riders were dropped on the climb, the remaining duo pressed on and crested the day’s only summit in the lead (km 6.5), as Alex Diaz (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) bridged across.

With the combativity jersey at stake on both the climbs and the intermediate sprints, the battle continued at the line drawn in Al Amerat (km 20). On both occasions, Goszczurny edged Faura to take an early advantage in the fight for the first gold jersey. At kilometre 23, a brief lull allowed Diaz to complete the breakaway, while the peloton’s deficit grew to 3’25’’ by km 30.

Gold Jersey for Goszczurny
UAE Emirates XRG and Alpecin-Deceuninck took control of the chase, with the break reaching km 50 with a 2’20’’ advantage, then 2’35’’ at km 100. The Spanish-Polish alliance worked well despite a headwind over much of the course. As the race entered the final 50 kilometres, the peloton stepped up the pace and the gap quickly dropped to 1’30’’. The trio initially held off the bunch, but the advantage was down to just 40’’ when Goszczurny won the second intermediate sprint, 25.1 kilometres from the finish. He then sat up, and his two companions lasted only three more kilometres at the front.

A Colombian One-Two in the Sprint
The route then featured a U-turn that put the peloton back with a tailwind along the coast of the Sea of Oman for the final 20 kilometres, further confirming the likelihood of a bunch sprint. The sprinters’ teams moved into position with 5 kilometres to go, including Gaviria’s Caja Rural squad and Coquard’s Cofidis teammates. In the final dash to the line, Juan-Sebastian Molano edged out Fernando Gaviria, with Gerben Thijssen taking third place.
