Weather at the finish city of Sonntagberg at 1:35 PM, local time: 22C (72F), mostly cloudy, with the wind from the northeast at 5 km/hr (3 mph). There is a 3% chance of rain, rising to 24% at 4:00.

The race: Here's the report from stage and final GC winner Jhonatan Narvaez.

Jhonatan Narvaez put an exclamation point on an incredible performance by claiming a third stage victory and taking overall victory at the Tour of Austria.

The Grenadier became the first Ecuadorian victor in the event and did so in style, winning a two-up sprint on the uphill finish in Sonntagberg.

Narvaez was able to edge out Welay Hagos Berhe (Jayco AlUla) in a tight finish, taking his third stage in four days and putting the finishing touches to a masterful GC victory.

Pavel Sivakov played a key wingman role on the final climb as the lead group thinned out, supporting Narvaez and eventually finishing sixth on the stage. That was enough to elevate himself to fifth place overall. Once again the whole INEOS Grenadiers team did a brilliant job to set up their team-mate for the win.

More bonus seconds on the line saw Narvaez's final margin of victory extend out to 41 seconds over Jason Osborne (Alpecin-Deceuninck). Jesus David Pena (Jayco AlUla) rounded out the podium positions a further four seconds back.

Weather at the finish city of Steyr at 2:20 PM, local time: 27C (80F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the west at 10 km/hr (6 mph). There is a 15% chance of rain, rising to 75% at 5:00.

The race: Here's the report from stage winner Matteo Sobrero's Team Jayco-AlUla.

After going so close the previous day, Team Jayco AlUla went one step better on stage 4 of the Tour of Austria with victory for Matteo Sobrero and second place for Felix Engelhardt.

The pair rode strongly in a select group that freed itself from the bunch on the final climb, the Porscheberg, inside the final 20 kilometres of the stage. They were joined in the final kilometres by teammate Welay Hagos Berhe, who bridged across as part of a small chase group to contest the finish.

A steep finale suited Sobrero and Engelhardt perfectly as the latter led the former out inside the final few hundred metres, with Sobrero powering across the line clear of his teammate as they celebrated a true team result.

Rudy Porter and Berhe – second on the previous day – both finished inside the top 15, with 20th place enough for Jesús David Peña to hold onto the leader’s jersey in the youth classification.

On the general classification, Sobrero climbed four spots to second overall, with Peña completing the top three with one stage remaining.

Engelhardt makes it three Team Jayco AlUla riders inside the top four as he gained a place on GC.

Matteo Sobrero:
“Since the beginning of the year I’ve been searching for a win, and finally today it’s arrived so I’m really happy. Special thanks to the team today, they did a really good job for me, especially Felix who did a great leadout for me. At the finish I took the opportunity.

"Today we didn’t expect this, it was supposed to be an easy day for the break! It took almost two hours for the break to go and we averaged almost 50km/h. It was proper racing today and the level was very high.

"We we will see tomorrow about the GC because it’s still open, for me.”

Jhonatan Narvaez gets his second stage win in a row.

Tour de France: 2022

Bill & Carol McGann’s book The Story of the Tour de France, 2022: The Fastest Tour Ever is available as in both Kindle eBook & audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.

Weather at the finish city of St. Johann/Alpendorf at 3:40 PM, local time: 22C (72F), raining, with the wind from the northeast at 8 km/hr (5 mph).

The race: Here's the report from stage winner & GC leader Jhonatan Narvaez's Team INEOS Grenadiers.

Jhonatan Narvaez extended his race lead out to 28 seconds at the Tour of Austria after a second stage win in succession.

The Ecuadorian put in a well-timed burst on the uphill ramp to the finish to see off Welay Hagos Berhe (Jayco AlUla) and claim another rousing victory.

The stage included a tough passage over the feared Grossglockner climb, before a descent down to the final ramp.

The team supported Narvaez well, allowing him to extend his grip on the red leader's jersey and the points jersey.

Pavel Sivakov backed up his teammate with sixth at the finish, a result which elevated him to eighth on a tightly packed GC.

Two more stages remain, with Wednesday's test another which should hopefully suit Narvaez's characteristics.

Jhonatan Narvaez:
"I wasn’t sure if the climb would be too hard for me. We climbed for almost one hour up to altitude. The team managed the effort really well and we were able to continue.

"The [climb] was hard – for sure it was really hard. But we enjoyed it you know – it was a nice road. It was nice climbing up and a nice descent which wasn’t really dangerous.

"I think [overall victory] is possible. I have a good condition and a good team with good support. We will try to win it."

Jhonatan Narvaez claimed a rousing victory on stage two at the Tour of Austria with a powerful and well-timed sprint.

The Grenadier became the first Ecuadorian stage winner of the race, on a day which also saw him move into the race lead. Once again the team drove the pace on the run into Innsbruck, with Narvaez fending off Gianni Vermeesch (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Javier Serrano (EOLO-Kometa) at the line.

Narvaez moves into a nine-second overall lead on a day which saw him scoop 13 seconds of time bonuses. He was alert to take three bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint, which also helped ensure he leads the points classification.

It was the first win for Jhony since his Giro d’Italia stage win in 2020, with the aim now to try and hold on to the race lead for the next three days.

Jhonatan Narvaez:
“I have a really good feeling here in Austria. We have nice roads, it’s sunny. I’m happy as it’s my first victory in three years. I’m really happy to win today.

“I’m in good shape and the next stages are also good for me. For sure we’ll keep pushing to win one more.

“We came here to win the race and we’ll try to keep this [jersey] until the end.”
