Weather at the finish city of Bolzano at 2:40 PM, local time: 26C (78F), sunny, with the wind from the south-southwest at 6 km/hr (4 mph). No rain is forecast.

The stage: As is tradition, the Tour of the Alps final stage is compact — 128.6 kilometers from Trento to Bozen/Bolzano — yet holds enough sting to upend the general classification. After only five kilometers, the road kicks up to Palù di Giovo, site of an intermediate sprint, before dropping back to the valley and rising along the Weinstraße/Strada del Vino. At Kaltern/Caldaro, the profile changes again with the ascent to Kalterer Hohe/Alta di Caldaro — a second-category KOM (4.4 km at 6.6%).

A fast, wide-road descent follows, then a flat run to the first passage across the Bozen/Bolzano finish line with 50 kilometers still to go. Leaving the city, the riders head towards Jenesien/San Genesio but, after the opening 3.5 kilometers of climbing, turn left onto a 19-kilometre circuit to be completed twice, featuring the first-category KOM of Nobls/Montoppio (9.2 km at 6.2%). Over the top, three twisty, rolling kilometres lead to the final intermediate sprint with time bonuses on the second passage through Oberglaning/Cologna di Sopra, before a last, very fast descent to the finish in Bozen/Bolzano, where the winner of the 2026 Tour of the Alps will be crowned.

The race: Here's the report from second-place Egan Bernal's Team INEOS Grenadiers.

Egan Bernal and Thymen Arensman put in strong GC performances to secure second and third overall at the Tour of the Alps.

Bernal sprinted to second on the final stage, with Arensman fourth as  Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe) took the stage and race win.

The final GC podium, from left: Egan Bernal (2nd), Giulio Pellizzari (1st), & Thymen Arensman (3rd).

Earlier in the day there had been a fierce fight to get into the breakaway with the INEOS Grenadiers looking to help control the escapees.

When the break did go, the team remained attentive near the front of the peloton, with Nicolas Milesi and Tobais Foss sharing the workload.

As the race reached the Nobis/Montoppio category one climb, Peter Øxenberg and Embret Svestad-Bårdseng were able to increase the pace which started to reduce the size of the peloton.

This saw the numbers continue to dwindle, but with 20 kilometres remaining Pellizzari attacked and created a small gap to Bernal and Arensman.

The duo pushed hard and worked well behind to try and reduce the gap as they descended into Bozen/Bolzano, but were unable to catch the Italian, sealing second and third overall as they build to their next goal, the Giro d'Italia.

Lennart Jasch wins stage four.

Tour de France: 2021

Bill & Carol McGann's book The Story of the Tour de France, 2021: The Little Cannibal Dominates is available in both Kindle eBook & audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.

Weather at the finish city of Trento at 2:40 PM, local time: 22C (71F), sunny, with the wind from the north-northwest at 8 km/hr (5 mph). No rain is forecast.

The stage: From the very first kilometers, the fourth stage — 167.8 km from Arco to Trento, with 3,600 meters of elevation gain — presents itself as the queen stage of the 2026 edition. After just eight kilometers, the peloton faces the first-category KOM of Passo Bordala (14.8 km at 6.9%), with the initial sections up to Ronzo-Chienis shared with the Passo di Santa Barbara climb. A fast descent follows into the Adige Valley, after which the road rises again towards Vigolo Vattaro. A short, winding descent then leads into the Valsugana at the foot of Passo del Redebus — another first-category KOM (12.9 km at 6.8%).

The descent from Passo Redebus opens a 37-kilometre circuit consisting of a rolling section to Baselga di Piné, a steep descent, a flat segment, and another rolling approach to the Brusago climb, whose first three kilometers hold stubbornly in double digits. After completing the loop, the race heads for Trento for a technical, nervy finale featuring the climb to Povo — a decisive pivot in the 2021 European Championships. Ten kilometers remain from the summit to the line: first downhill, then flat into the heart of Trento.

The race: Alessandro Verre (MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort) did not start and early in the race Martin Santiago Herreño (Bardiani CSF 7 Saber) & Ignazio Ignazio Cireddu (Team Vorarlberg) abandoned.

Here's the race report from second-place Matteo Sobrero's Team Lidl-Trek:

Matteo Sobrero produced one of the standout rides on stage four of the Tour of the Alps, finishing in second place after an impressive show of strength. On the toughest day of the race with over 4000 meters of elevation gain, Sobrero climbed with the group of general classification favorites, positioning himself well when the race split on major ascents.

Despite the brutality of the Queen stage, the Italian rider approached the final with extreme composure, biding his time and marking key attacks from the peloton. He conserved energy until the final 10-kilometres of racing when he followed a move made by Federico Iacomoni of Team UKYO. The pair built a significant gap on their rivals behind and worked well together to try and catch the lone leader, Lennart Jasch of Tudor Pro Cycling. Sobrero drove hard on the front with power and determination, maintaining a high tempo all the way to the finish.

Inside the closing kilometers, the Italian rider had the gap to Jasch within 10 seconds but unfortunately ran out of road before the catch was made. However, his podium spot means that Sobrero is in the jersey for the best Italian rider at the Tour of the Alps following an intelligent, aggressive race and strong climbing performance.

In Matteo's words:
"It was a tough day, it was the Queen Stage and we started really hard. All day was really fast paced and I tried to take the moment in the last part when the GC guys started to look at each other. I tried to anticipate and close the gap to the guy in front. I gave it my all and I’m satisfied with the day – chapeau to the guy in front, he did a really strong ride. I’m happy."

Weather at the finish city of Arco at 2:35 PM, local time: 17C (63F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the south-southwest at 11 km/hr (7 mph). There is a 9% chance of rain.

The stage: The third stage runs 174.5 kilometres from Latsch/Laces in Südtirol/Alto Adige to Arco in Trentino, starting on the lower Vinschgau/Val Venosta valley floor. After 26 flat kilometers, the profile changes at Lana with the long first-category climb to Hofmahdjoch/Passo Castrin (22.2 km at 5.7%), the highest point of this edition at 1,586 meters and the natural border between Südtirol/Alto Adige and Trentino.

After descending into the Val di Non, the route reaches the base of the Andalo climb, a second-category KOM (14.4 km at 5.4%). Both the ascent and ensuing descent are steady, leading to the intermediate sprint in Ponte Arche. From there, the road rises again to Passo del Ballino before dropping to Lake Tenno, where the riders enter a circuit: first the descent via Pranzo, then the return climb to the lake with a passage through Ville del Monte featuring time-bonus seconds.

Once the loop is completed, about 15 kilometers remain. The peloton heads into Garda Trentino, passes through the centre of Riva del Garda, and covers the final kilometers to the finish in Arco.

The race: Here's the report from stage winner Tom Pidcock's Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team.

The Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team celebrated an emotional and significant victory today, as team leader Tom Pidcock powered to an outstanding win on Stage 3 of the Tour of the Alps.

Returning to racing just three weeks after a knee injury sustained in a crash during Stage 5 of the Volta a Catalunya, Pidcock’s condition coming into the race remained an unknown. However, the Briton has answered any doubts in emphatic fashion. After already showing his intent with a strong second place in the opening stage, today’s victory marks a powerful statement of resilience and class.

On a demanding and high-tempo stage, Pidcock executed a bold and committed race strategy, underlining both his racing instinct and determination to compete at the highest level despite limited preparation.

Speaking after the finish, Pidcock reflected candidly on both the physical and mental challenges of his return:

“I think that’s the mentality that we have — we commit 100%, even though I’m really not in the best shape. I gave everything. Maybe I went a bit too early in the final, I thought the finish was closer when the barriers started, and it was quite far. I was a bit worried, but I saw Egan was the first guy on the wheel, so I just kept going.”

After a hot and demanding stage, the significance of the victory was not lost on him:

“With my injury and the time off, it’s been difficult. Coming back is very hard mentally — even the first time I was dropped, it was tough to deal with. So yeah, this win feels really nice.”

Today’s performance highlights not only Pidcock’s natural talent, but also the strength of character required to return to winning form under such circumstances. For the Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team, it represents a key milestone early in the season and reinforces the team’s identity: aggressive racing, full commitment, and resilience in the face of adversity.

Weather at the finish town of Martell/Val Martello at 3:05 PM, local time: 12C (54F), fair, with the wind from the west-northwest at 22 km/hr (7 mph). There is a 6% chance of rain.

The stage: Stage 2 covers 147.5 kilometers from Telfs in Tirol to Martell/Val Martello in Südtirol/Alto Adige and is likewise expected to begin at pace. After around twenty flat kilometers, the road rises: first gently through the Pitztal, then more decisively towards the first-category KOM at Pillerhöhe (9.2 km at 6%).

After the summit, the route stays on a high plateau for several kilometers before descending into the Vinschgau/Val Venosta valley. A rolling section of about 25 kilometers leads into the long ascent of the Reschenpass/Passo Resia (15.8 km at 3.4%). Shortly before the top, the race leaves Tirol and enters Südtirol/Alto Adige.

With just over six kilometers remaining, the riders tackle the final climb to Martell/Val Martello, averaging 8%. The effort ends roughly 500 meters before the line, where a short dip and one last kicker lead to the finish — a selective finale, ideal for the first GC skirmishes.

The race: Here's the report from second-place Thymen Arensman's Team INEOS Grenadiers.

Thymen Arensman claimed second on stage two of Tour of the Alps, with a tight sprint finish also seeing Egan Bernal take fourth place.

Thymen Arensman and Egan Bernal sprinted from a five up group, including winner Giulio Pellizzari, Aleksandr Vlasov (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe) and Mattia Gaffuri (Team Picnic PostNL) after a decisive hilltop finish.

A nine-rider breakaway animated the early part of the race, while strong work from Nicolas Milesi in the peloton helped position the team ahead of the final kilometres.

Inside the final 6km, Victor Langellotti drove the pace at the front, with Peter Oxenberg taking over to keep the pressure on as the race approached the final kicker to the finish.

Arensman was perfectly placed and made his move at the front of the peloton, launching clear alongside Lorenzo Finn (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe) and Pellizzari. As the trio pushed on, Pellizzari accelerated to bridge across to Gaffuri, one of the last remaining riders from the original break.

After being distanced on the climb, Egan Bernal showed strong determination to fight back and rejoin Arensman, forming a select group at the front. With 1.5km remaining, the leaders came together, catching both Gaffuri and Pellizzari to set up a five-rider sprint for the stage win.

Arensman held his composure in the final metres, sprinting to a well-earned second place after a committed and attacking ride, with Bernal following home in fourth.

The Dutchman now also sits second on the general classification, with Bernal in fifth ahead of another mountainous stage tomorrow.

Weather at the start/finish city of Innsbruck at 3:00 PM, local time: 14C (58F), mostly cloudy, with the wind from the east-northeast at 14 km/hr (9 mph). There is a 7% chance of rain.

The stage: The 144.3 km opening stage of the 2026 Tour of the Alps, starting and finishing in Innsbruck, Tirol, is expected to get off to a fast, lively start. The first 25 kilometres run flat along the Inn Valley, the perfect terrain for an early break. Upon reaching Telfs, the route enters a 24-kilometre circuit to be covered twice, featuring the gentle climb to the Mieminger Plateau. During the second lap of this loop, the riders will find the first KOM.

After leaving the circuit, the course heads back towards Innsbruck and onto a second 18-kilometre loop, also to be ridden twice. This circuit includes the ascent to Götzens: four kilometres at an average gradient of 7%, with a central section exceeding double-digit slopes. Before the fast descent towards Kematen, a short uphill segment leads to Axams, where an intermediate sprint with time bonuses is placed on the second passage. From there, roughly twenty kilometres remain to the finish in Innsbruck, on the classic Rennweg finishing straight.

The race: Here's the report from fourth-place Gabriele Bessega's Team Polti-VisitMalta.

The young Italian abriele Bessega had already shown great form at the recent Pays de la Loire Tour, where he finished second on Stage 3, and today, on the first stage of the Tour of the Alps, a stage better suited to his characteristics, he made the most of the opportunity to sprint to fourth place.

The Team Polti VisitMalta stayed in the peloton during the first stage, without joining a breakaway that featured only three riders. After clearing the day’s climbs, and with 10 kilometres to go, all six riders were still in the main group. Despite a late attack from Thymen Arensman (IGD) with three kilometres to go, the stage was decided in a sprint. Gabriele Bessega came from behind to finish a strong fourth, just shy of the podium. Andrea Pietrobon was 7th, Adrián Benito 13th and Davide Bais 15th, while Mattia Bais and Alessandro Tonelli also finished in the main group.

Bessega: “Today was a perfect course for me and we all did an excellent job, I’m really happy with this start to my first Professional season!”

Giovanni Ellena: “It was a great result for Gabriele, but it leaves us with the feeling it could have been even better. He was a bit boxed in at the finish.”
