The race: Here's the organizer's stage seven summary.

(Barcelona, 29-03-2026).- Brady Gilmore (NSN Cycling Team) has won the final stage of the 2026 Volta a Catalunya, a 95.1-kilometre route starting and finishing in Barcelona, with the highlight being the seven climbs up the Alt del Castell de Montjuïc. The Australian secured his team’s second victory of the week, following Ethan Vernon’s win in Camprodon on the day Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) was crowned champion of the 105th edition of the Catalan cycling race. The Dane withstood the attacks on the final circuit with ease and took to the podium alongside Frenchman Lenny Martínez (Bahrain Victorious) and German Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe).

On Sunday 29 March, Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) became the first Dane in history to win the Volta a Catalunya in its 105-year history. A two-time Tour de France winner, Vingegaard follows in the footsteps of Tadej Pogačar (2024) and Primož Roglič (2023 and 2025) in the Catalan race’s impressive recent roll of honour, with a victory secured thanks to his wins on the mountain finishes at La Molina/Coll de Pal and Queralt, where he built up a lead that he defended resolutely today in the ever-explosive final stage in Barcelona.

After setting off from Plaza de Espanya, a breakaway group featuring Magnus Cort (Uno-X Mobility), stage winner at Banyoles, Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), Darren Rafferty (EF Education-EasyPost), Einer Rubio (Movistar Team) and Liam Slock (Lotto-Intermarché) broke away in the opening kilometres of the route through the Baix Llobregat before returning to the Montjuïc circuit.

There, the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe team sought to up the pace of the leading group until Remco Evenepoel launched his first attack on the third of the seven ascents of the Alt del Castell. However, neither the breakaway attempts by the Belgian – stage winner in Barcelona in 2023 – nor those by other adventurers such as Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) or Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek), winner of the mountains classification, prevented the final stage from being decided by a select group.

The sprint victory on Avenida Maria Cristina was ultimately claimed by the 24-year-old Australian Brady Gilmore (NSN Cycling Team), who secured his first WorldTour win and his team’s second victory of the week. He did so by beating Frenchman Dorian Godon (Ineos Grenadiers), a two-time stage winner in this Volta and winner of the points classification, and Remco Evenepoel himself.

With this result, Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) has secured victory in the general classification of the Volta a Catalunya, finishing 1’22” ahead of Frenchman Lenny Martínez (Bahrain Victorious), who was crowned best young rider in the Catalan race for the second time at just 22 years of age, and 1’30” ahead of Germany’s Florian Lipowitz (Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), ahead of Remco Evenepoel who finished 5th.

Another renowned champion has been added to the Volta a Catalunya’s roll of honour, which now officially counts an eighth Tour de France winner among its ranks, following in the footsteps of Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Luis Ocaña, Felice Gimondi, Bernard Thévenet, Miguel Indurain and Tadej Pogačar.

The race: Tom Pidcock (Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) did not start. His team posted: Following his crash during yesterday’s stage at Volta a Catalunya, Tom Pidcock underwent thorough medical assessments with the team’s medical staff and at the hospital.

Lorenz Emmert, Chief Medical Team Doctor, said:
"Due to his crash he suffered injuries, most likely bone and ligament damage in particular to his right knee and also right wrist. Unfortunately we had to make the decision to take him out of the race. Further clinical evaluation and imaging will follow in the next days additionally to the already initiated healing process."

Pidcock will remain under close observation in the coming days, with further evaluations ongoing. Any additional updates will be communicated once more precise information becomes available.

Tom Pidcock said:
"We did everything to try to make it to the start but it’s not possible. I fought to finish the stage yesterday to make sure I had the option to continue. Now the focus is on recovery, and I’ll be back."

Here's the race organizer's stage six report:

Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) cemented his dominance of the 105th edition of the Volta a Catalunya on Saturday 28 March, also winning the 6th stage. The day after his masterclass at La Molina/Coll de Pal, the Dane once again demonstrated his superiority at the summit of Queralt in Berguedà, where he celebrated his second stage victory whilst already wearing the leader’s jersey, and extended his lead at the top of the general classification to 1’22” over Frenchman Lenny Martinez and German Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) ahead of the final stage in Barcelona.

The penultimate stage of the 2026 Volta a Catalunya featured the second high-mountain challenge between Berga and Queralt. A relentless 158.2 kilometers, including the classified climbs of the Coll de la Batallola (3rd category), the fearsome Coll de Pradell (special category) and the Collada de Sant Isidre (1st category) before tackling the final climb to the Berguedà sanctuary, which in 2024 had been conquered solo by Tadej Pogačar, Vingegaard’s great rival of his generation.

Stage six gets its official start and attacks started immediately.

The start of the stage was very intense, with constant breakaway attempts and splits in the peloton, resulting in a group of 15 riders with strong climbing potential reaching the front of the race at the foot of the Pradell. On the dreaded slopes of the Berguedà mountain pass, with gradients of up to 18%, the riders who managed to hold on were, once again, the Catalan Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) and the Italian Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek), accompanied by Olympic champion Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) and the young Norwegian Embret Svestad-Bårdseng (Ineos Grenadiers).

An adventure that has earned Ciccone, the last of the breakaway riders to be caught by the peloton 17 kilometers from the finish, the new leader’s jersey in the mountain’s classification. The tough terrain leading up to Queralt caused the group of favorites to split, with Austrian Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM) – who had started the stage in second place overall – not among them. Following his defeat yesterday, Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) worked in support of his teammate Florian Lipowitz, leaving him virtually alone with Vingegaard at the start of the final climb, where only the Frenchmen Lenny Martínez (Bahrain Victorus) and Valentin Paret-Peintre (Soudal Quick-Step) were able to keep up with them.

There, amidst the crowds that once again filled the climb to the sanctuary, 2.2 kilometers from the finish line, Vingegaard launched another attack that no one could answer, and was able to celebrate his solo victory with a 10-second lead over Martínez and Lipowitz, 16 seconds over Paret-Peintre, and 27 seconds over Evenepoel.

Jonas Vingegaard thus heads into the race’s final day with the confidence of a clear leader; the 7th stage promises to be more explosive than ever, covering 95.1 kilometers with the start and finish in Barcelona, where the focus will be on the seven ascents of the Alt del Castell de Montjuïc (2nd category) – one more than in previous editions. There, Vingegaard will have to hold on to secure his first victory in the Volta a Catalunya for his impressive list of achievements, taking over from Pogačar and Primož Roglič, the most recent champions.

The race: Here's the race organizer's stage five summary.

The 105th edition of the Volta a Catalunya has a new leader following its fifth stage, and that leader is Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike). The Dane, who arrived at the Catalan race as the clear favorite, demonstrated his superiority in the high mountains and claimed both the stage victory and the overall lead after breaking away from his rivals and riding solo for the final 6 kilometers of the grueling La Molina/Coll de Pal summit in Berga. Vingegaard now leads the general classification by 57 seconds over Félix Gall (Decathlon-CMA CGM Team) and 1'09” over Lenny Martínez (Bahrain-Victorious) ahead of another decisive mountain stage between Berga and Queralt.

The peloton leaves the start city of La Seu d'Urgell

One hundred and fifty-one cyclists set off on the 5th stage of the 2026 Volta a Catalunya, which was originally scheduled to cover a 153-kilometre route starting in La Seu d'Urgell and finishing in La Molina/Coll de Pal, but was shortened by just over two kilometers due to a wind warning. The climbs of Colldarnat (1st category), Coll de Josa (2nd category), Coll de Fumanya (1st category) and Collada Sobirana (1st category), many of which were making their competitive debut, set the scene for a special category finish considered one of the most demanding in Catalonia, and which lived up to its reputation.

Following a fierce battle for the breakaway on the day’s first mountain pass, a strong group of five climbers formed, comprising Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), Davide Piganzoli (Team Visma-Lease a Bike), Junior Lecerf (Soudal Quick-Step), Einer Rubio (Movistar Team) and Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek), who ended up being the star of the show.

The day's break 1min 50sec ahead of the pack on the 1st category Col de Fumanya, 93 km into the stage.

The Italian, stage winner at Vallter in 2023, broke away from his breakaway companions and tackled the Coll de Pal climbs alone until he was caught by the group of favorites 6 kilometers from the finish. Earlier, on the descent of the Collada Sobirana, Britain’s Tom Pidcock (Pinarello-Q36.5 Pro Cycling), who was second in the general classification, suffered a crash that ended his chances of victory.

At the moment Ciccone was neutralized, Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) made a significant breakaway move that put him alone at the front of the race, with Felix Gall (Decathlon-CMA CGM Team), Lenny Martínez (Bahrain Victorious), Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) and Valentin Paret-Peintre (Soudal Quick-Step) as his main pursuers. Meanwhile, Vingegaard’s other major rival, Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), was in a third group and crossed the finish line 1’38” behind the Dane.

Jonas Vingegaard wins the stage and becomes the new GC leader.

Vingegaard is now the new leader of the Volta a Catalunya, 57 seconds ahead of Felix Gall and 1 minute 9 seconds ahead of Lenny Martínez, whilst Remco Evenepoel drops to 6th place, 1 minute 28 seconds behind, and Tom Pidcock trails by 29 minutes. Tomorrow, Saturday 28 March, the sixth stage will feature the second high-mountain challenge with another non-stop day’s racing between Berga and Queralt.

Stage 4 map & profile

Ethan Vernon wins stage four.

The weather at the finish city of Camprodón at 1:45 PM, local time: 6C (43F), mostly sunny, with the wind from the north-northwest at 24 km/hr (15 mph). There are wind gusts up to 51 km/hr (32 mph). No rain is forecast.

The route: The race organizer posted this notice: Due to the activation of a Level 3 VENTCAT warning, with wind gusts of up to 90 km/h forecast at the summit of Vallter, the Volta a Catalunya has been forced to shorten the route of its 4th stage, scheduled for Thursday 26 March.

The stage, starting from Mataró, will finish in the town of Camprodon, shortening the final climb to the resort. With this change, the stage start time is delayed by half an hour to 13:05, with the team presentation in Mataró taking place between 11:55 and 12:55.

The race: Not starting: Ivo Oliveira (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) & Matthew Fox (Lotto-Intermarché).

Here's the race report from winner Ethan Vernon's NSN Cycling Team:

Some victories mean more than others, and Ethan Vernon’s win on stage 4 of Volta Ciclista a Catalunya on the home roads of NSN undeniably falls into this category.

Victory in Camprodón on Thursday was the British rider’s third stage win in the race – he previously claimed one for this team last year – and also moves him to 14 career victories, half of which have come in WorldTour events.

Stage four gets started.

“It’s a super special race for me,” he says. “My first pro win here was here in 2022, and this is now my third win here, this time with NSN, and it’s the home race of our new sponsor, so I guess this one is just as special as the other two.”

It was a case of third time lucky for Vernon, having seen his chances on Tuesday’s second stage affected by an untimely puncture, and then narrowly missing out on Wednesday, finishing second behind in-form Frenchman Dorian Godon (IGD).

However, the sprinters were given one final and unexpected opportunity today, as strong winds resulted in a shortening of today’s stage, changing it from a mountain-top finish to one that suited the British rider and a determined NSN lead-out train perfectly.

Km 19: The peloton is really lined out for the first intermediate sprint, won by Remco Evenepoel

“It hasn’t gone to plan for us in the first three days, and then we were gifted another opportunity last night,” says Vernon. “The boys really committed – I’m super happy with them today – and I think this means even more for everyone because it wasn’t meant to be a sprint originally.”

His first win in NSN colors – back in January’s Tour Down Under – also came on a stage shortened because of the conditions.

First intermediate sprint at Km 19: Remco Evenepoel beats Tom Pidcock .

After George Bennett, Pier-André Côté, Brady Gilmore and Jake Stewart delivered Vernon into the perfect position with 300 meters remaining, Vernon finished the job in style, comfortably beating Godon.

He adds: “We studied this new finish a lot last night, and we made a new plan this morning to take it into the roundabout first. The roundabout was super close to the finish. Normally, you would start your sprint before the roundabout, but the first race was to get into the roundabout first. I think everybody stayed in the same position coming out of it.

“We wanted to control it for a sprint, and in the end, quite a small break went away. This played into my favor as a sprinter, because it made the day a bit slower than normal. We didn’t have to chase the break as hard, so it made the day a lot slower, and it played into the hands of the fast men at the end. I made the most of this opportunity.”

  • Km 114.9: Coll Roig, Cat. 3

The race: Here's the organizer's stage three summary.

Stage 3 of the 2026 Volta a Catalunya delivered a thrilling day of racing on the Costa Daurada on Wednesday 25 March. Race leader Dorian Godon (Ineos Grenadiers) secured his second stage victory in a small-group sprint, but the spotlight was on the attacking moves by favourites Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), who crashed within the final kilometer whilst leading the race, and Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike), who was caught on the final straight. A first taste of things to come before the high mountains.

A peloton of 156 cyclists set off on the third stage of the 2026 Volta a Catalunya, which covered the inland areas of the Costa Daurada on a 159.4-kilometre route between Mont-roig del Camp and Vila-seca. The mountain climbs of Alto de La Mussara (1st category), Coll de Capafonts (2nd category) and Coll Roig (3rd category), all situated well before the final stretch of the stage, were unable to prevent a large group from contesting the stage victory in a sprint finish.

Baptiste Veistroffer (Lotto Intermarché), leader of the mountains and points classifications after two days, was once again in the thick of the action from the very first kilometre, forming a six-man breakaway with his teammate Reuben Thompson (Lotto Intermarché), Diego Uriarte (Equipo Kern Pharma), Burnett (Burgos-Burpellet-BH) and Mark Stewart (Modern Adventure Pro Cycling), who took the lead on the day’s mountain passes but were caught in the final 30 kilometres, when the race blew apart.

The echelons split the peloton, led by the teams of the top favourites, until Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), riding at the front, launched an attack 24 kilometers from the finish, which was matched only by his main rival Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease en Bike). Both stayed with the main group, which knew it had to let them battle it out for the stage win, but the adventure came to an end within the final kilometre of the stage on the streets of Vila-seca, when a crash sent Evenepoel to the ground and Vingegaard eased off.

They were thus absorbed into a smaller breakaway, with the fastest rider once again taking the lead: the Frenchman Dorian Godon (Ineos Grenadiers), who, having claimed the blue-and-white jersey on the opening stage in San Félix de Guíxols, was able to celebrate victory once more after overtaking the British rider Ethan Ver (EF Education-EasyPost).

The race: Here's the race organizer's stage two report:

Magnus Cort (Uno-X Mobility) won the second stage of the Volta a Catalunya on Tuesday 24 March, on his debut in the race. The 33-year-old Danish veteran, winner of nine stages across the three Grand Tours, beat the young Frenchman Noa Isidore (Decathlon CMA CGM Team) and the Italian Francesco Busatto (Alpecin-Premier Tech) in a gruelling sprint to add another big name to the list of stage winners at the 105th Volta a Catalunya. The winner of the first stage, Dorian Godon (Ineos Grenadiers), retained the overall lead, level on time with the Dane, ahead of a medium-mountain stage on the Costa Daurada.

The 161 cyclists who had started the race set off on the second stage of the 2026 Volta a Catalunya, a 167.4-kilometre route starting in Figueres and finishing in Banyoles. The climb up the Alto del Purgatori (3rd category) early in the stage was the only mountain challenge of a day which, whilst favouring the sprinters’ chances, featured demanding undulating terrain through the Garrotxa region in its final section.

Stage 2 gets its official start.

Right from the start of the stage, five riders broke away to form the day’s breakaway: Frenchman Baptiste Veistroffer (Lotto Intermarché), the mountains classification leader after a strong performance the previous day, was joined on the breakaway by his team-mate Liam Slock, along with Julen Arriolabengoa (Caja Kern Pharma) and Samuel Fernández (Euskaltel-Euskadi), who won the award for the most combative rider of the stage. The two Lotto Intermarché riders managed to put up a thrilling fight against the big teams in the peloton as they gave chase, first breaking away alongside Diego Uriarte and, finally, keeping Liam Slock at the front until the one-kilometre-to-go sign.

An early break had a 2min 15sec lead 20 kilometers into the stage. The riders are: Liam Slock (Lotto-Intermarché), Baptiste Veistroffer (Lotto-Intermarché), Julen Arriola-Bengoa (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), Diego Uriarte (Equipo Kern Pharma), & Samuel Fernandez (Euskaltel-Euskadi).

It was then that a sprint finish in the streets of Banyoles became inevitable, where in previous editions of the Volta legendary sprinters such as Erik Zabel, Mark Cavendish and Alessandro Petacchi had won, and this year Magnus Cort added a big name to the list of winners. Stage 3 of the Volta a Catalunya will feature the Costa Daurada as the main attraction this Wednesday, 25 March, with a route between Mont-roig del Camp and Vila-seca that will take in the mountain passes of Alt de la Mussara (1st category), Coll de Capafonts (2nd category) and Coll Roig (3rd category).

Frenchman Dorian Godon (Ineos Grenadiers) will start as joint leader on time with Magnus Cort, followed by two favourites: Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), third in the standings four seconds behind, and Tom Pidcock (Pinarello-Q36.5), fourth.

The race: Here's the race organizer's stage one report.

Dorian Godon (Ineos Grenadiers) is the first leader of the 105th edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya after securing victory in the opening stage, which started and finished in Sant Feliu de Guíxols. The French champion, who was in great form after winning a stage at Paris-Nice a few days earlier, managed to outpace Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) and Briton Tom Pidcock (Pinarello-Q36.5 Pro Cycling) in a spectacular finish, two of the main contenders for the overall victory in the race.

161 cyclists set off from Sant Feliu de Guíxols for the opening stage of the 2026 Volta Catalunya, a 172.7-kilometre route featuring the mountain climbs of Alt de Romanyà (3rd category) and Alt de Sant Hilari Sacalm (1st category) in the first half, before tackling the explosive final section on the Tossa de Mar road and the demanding straight stretch of the Carretera de Girona.

It's time to go racing in Spain. Stage one gets its offical start.

Frenchman Baptiste Veistroffer (Lotto-Intermarché), who dominated the day’s points classifications and was awarded the prize for the most combative rider of the day, brothers Hugo Aznar (Equipo Kern Pharma) and Unai Aznar (Euskaltel-Euskadi), and New Zealander Josh-Burnet Tyler Stites (Modern Adventure Pro Cycling) formed the breakaway of the day, which never managed to open up a gap of more than 4 minutes.

Just 15 km into the stage there is a break: Baptiste Veistroffer, Hugo Aznar, Unai Aznar, Josh Burnett, & Tyler Stites.

Teams with a chance of a sprint finish, such as NSN Cycling Team, Bahrain Victorious and Ineos Grenadiers, worked to close the gap on the group. In the end, it was Josh Burnett (Burgos-Burpellet-BH) who put up the strongest solo fight at the front of the race, only to be caught 11 kilometres from the finish line by UAE Team Emirates-XRG, who intensified the race on the demanding road to Tossa de Mar.

The peloton with 51 km to go and the break 1min 22sec up the road.

Race leaders such as Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease en Bike) sought to control the final kilometres themselves until the last kilometre, where Dorian Godon (Ineos Grenadiers) emerged victorious from a very long sprint against the main contenders for the overall Volta victory to become the race’s first leader.

Dorian Godon beats Remco Evenepoel for the stage win.

The Volta a Catalunya It will continue on Tuesday 24 March with a second stage covering 167.4 kilometres between Figueres and Banyoles, offering the race’s top sprinters a chance to win the stage.

About the 2026 Volta a Catalunya:

The race organizer wrote:

Everything is set for the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya to once again bring together the biggest stars of international cycling for its 105th edition. A peloton comprising 161 riders from the world’s 23 top teams will set off on Monday 23 March from Sant Feliu de Guíxols for seven days of competition in the historic Catalan race, which will conclude on Sunday 29 in Barcelona. Expectations are sky-high thanks to the combination of the gruelling route – which will once again feature three major mountain stages – and the exceptional calibre of the participants. Names such as Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel, João Almeida, Tom Pidcock and Florian Lipowitz are just some of the many riders hoping to take the baton from the recent champions of the Catalan race, two generational icons: the Slovenians Primož Roglič (2025 and 2023) and Tadej Pogačar (2024), among a list of participants that includes seven winners of different Grand Tours.

The race debut of Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike), a two-time winner of the Tour de France and the most recent Vuelta a España, is one of the major highlights of this year’s Volta a Catalunya, after a crash prevented him from taking part in last year’s edition. The Danish climber, who arrives in fine form for the Catalan event after dominating the recent Paris-Nice, will face stiff competition from the Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), a multiple Olympic and world champion and winner of a Vuelta, and the Portuguese João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), winner of many of the top one-week races on the UCI WorldTour calendar and second in the last Vuelta a España behind Vingegaard. Both have unfinished business with the Catalan race, where they have made their mark in previous appearances by winning stages and finishing on the overall podium, without securing victory.

The presence of all the Pogačar’s rivals who finished in the top five of the latest Tour de France demonstrates the calibre of the field expected at this year’s Volta a Catalunya. Germany’s Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), Britain’s Oscar Onley (Ineos Grenadiers) and Austria’s Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM Team) are just some of the highlights on a list of contenders for the overall victory, which includes other star hopefuls such as Britain’s Tom Pidcock (Pinarello-Q36. 5 Pro Cycling), a multiple world and Olympic mountain bike champion who last year cemented his commitment to the Grand Tours by finishing on the final podium of the Vuelta a España alongside Vingegaard and Almeida, whom he will face again in this Volta a Catalunya.

In total, the 105th edition of the Catalan race will feature seven riders who have won different Grand Tours, in addition to Vingegaard and Evenepoel, many of whom have already been key figures in the Volta, such as the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost), winner of the Giro d’Italia, a podium finisher in all three Grand Tours and an Olympic champion, the veteran Colombian Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team), winner of the 2016 Volta a Catalunya and champion of one Giro and one Vuelta, the American Sepp Kuss (Team Visma-Lease a Bike), winner of a Vuelta a España, and two Giro d’Italia champions such as Tao Geoghegan Hart (Lidl-Trek) and Jai Hindley (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe). An endless list of prominent names is rounded off by riders who have also made their mark on the Volta, such as Enric Mas (Movistar Team) and Mikel Landa (Soudal Quick-Step), who have both stood on the final podium in Barcelona, the Italian Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) and the Australian Ben O’Connor (Jayco-AlUla), winners of major mountain stages in previous editions, Lenny Martínez (Bahrain Victorious), best young rider, and also illustrious debutants such as the Canadian Derek Gee (Lidl-Trek).

Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) is another rider who knows what it’s like to step onto the podium at his home race; he will be making his eleventh consecutive appearance, leading the line-up of seven Catalan cyclists on the start line alongside his team-mate Adrià Pericas, who is making his debut in the race, David De Cruz and Marcel Camprubí (Pinarello-Q36. 5), Abel Balderstone, Jan Castellón and Sergi Darder (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA). Meanwhile, among the contenders for stage victories, Ethan Vernon (NSN Cycling Team), a two-time stage winner at the Volta a Catalunya, will face stiff competition from veterans such as Magnus Cort Nielsen (Uno-X Mobility) and Sam Bennett (Pinarello-Q36.5), stage winners in all three Grand Tours, and the Frenchman Dorian Godon (Ineos Grenadiers), recent stage winner at Paris-Nice, some of the fastest men in a peloton that boasts more than 100 stage victories across the Giro, Tour and Vuelta.

An unrivalled triple mountain challenge
The 105th edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya will take place between 23 and 29 March, covering more than 1,080 kilometres across seven stages between Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Barcelona, with the mountains stages taking centre. In total, riders will climb over 20,000 metres of elevation gain during a week of competition that will begin with three stages offering opportunities for stage hunters: the opening stage in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, the second between Figueres and Banyoles, and the third through the inland areas of the Costa Daurada, before tackling three high-mountain stages: Mataró-Vallter, La Seu d'Urgell-La Molina/Coll de Pal and Berga-Queralt, which will put the top climbers in the international peloton to the test before the race concludes on the traditional Montjuïc circuit in Barcelona.

The opening stage of the 2026 Volta a Catalunya will once again start and finish in Sant Feliu de Guíxols for the fifth consecutive year, leaving the door open to all types of riders capable of battling it out to become the first leader, thanks to a nerve-wracking route and a demanding finish. Starting from the Guíxols Arena, the stage will cover 172.7 kilometres and feature two mountain passes, one of which is a first-category climb, the Alt de Sant Hilari Sacalm, on the way to the explosive finish on the Carretera de Girona, which in recent years has consistently delivered thrilling finishes with winners such as Michael Matthews, Primož Roglič and, last year, the young Matthew Brennan.

The second stage will cover 167.4 kilometres between Figueres and Banyoles, reversing the route of the stage that, in the last edition, saw British sprinter Ethan Vernon crowned the winner in the city of Dalí. It will be a stage which, despite reaching 2,000 metres of cumulative elevation gain, will feature only a Category 3 climb as a scoring difficulty in its opening kilometres and is likely to favour a potential bunch sprint on the Passeig de Lluís Constans in Banyoles, a town that has previously crowned such iconic sprinters as Erik Zabel, Thor Hushovd, Mark Cavendish and Alessandro Petacchi.

The third stage will feature the Costa Daurada as its main attraction, four years on from one of the most memorable stages of recent editions, with the breakaway by Richard Carapaz and Sergio Higuita in 2022. The route will cover 159.5 kilometres between Mont-roig del Camp and Vila-seca, with the Prades Mountains and the Montsant range taking centre stage, featuring three mountain passes, including the iconic first-category Alt de La Mussara. A stage that could favour the adventurers looking to break away on the way to Vila-seca, which last hosted a Volta stage finish in 2019.

The fourth stage will be the first of three consecutive high-mountain stages in this Volta a Catalunya, starting in Mataró and finishing at the Vallter ski resort, the highest point in Catalonia for cycling at over 2,100 metres. On the centenary of Esport Ciclista Mataró, the capital of the Maresme region will kick off a 173-kilometre stage featuring two mountain passes in its early stages before tackling a final climb which, in 2024, witnessed a solo display by Tadej Pogačar and which will force the contenders for the overall victory to lay their cards on the table.

Following the first assault, the fifth stage will put the climbers to an even greater test over a 155.3-kilometre route between La Seu d'Urgell and the dreaded summit of La Molina/Coll de Pal, which will see riders climb nearly 4,500 metres in elevation. Five mountain passes will be conquered, some of them making their debut in the Volta, crossing the Cadí mountains, and the final challenge will be the climb to Coll de Pal, considered one of the most demanding passes in Catalonia. More than 17 seemingly endless kilometres of climbing at an average gradient of 7% from the town of Bagà which, although they were decisive last year in securing Demi Vollering’s victory in the women’s edition of the Volta, have not featured prominently in the men’s race since 1979.

The third and decisive mountain stage of this Volta a Catalunya aims to replicate the spectacle that captivated the cycling world in 2024, showcasing the full cycling potential of the Berguedà region across its 158 explosive kilometres between the town of Berga and the summit of Queralt. There will be four mountain passes in total along the route, including the famous Coll de Pradell, a special category climb, which in previous editions was packed with spectators eager to enjoy yet another display of brilliance from Tadej Pogačar on his way to overall victory. As on that occasion, the climb to the sanctuary of Queralt from Berga could prove decisive in determining the winner of the 105th edition of the Volta, with the final stage still to come. Finally, the 2026 Volta a Catalunya will conclude with its traditional closing party, starting and finishing in the city of Barcelona.

On an even more challenging route, the stage will cover 95 kilometres, starting from Plaça Espanya, and will include an additional climb up to the Alt del Castell de Montjuïc, making a total of seven laps of a circuit that has played such a significant role in the history of the Volta and of cycling, and which has been the race’s finale since 2013. In the last two editions, Barcelona has seen the Volta’s overall classification winners, the Slovenians Primož Roglič (2025) and Tadej Pogačar (2024), win the final stage.

A guaranteed spectacle for a world-class event, which will be broadcast to 190 territories worldwide and can be watched live in Spain on Esport3, Teledeporte and Eurosport, and other more than 40 broadcasters around the world.
