Weather at the start/finish city of Siena at 2:15 PM, local time: 13C (56F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the west at 16 km/hr (10 mph). There is a 6% chance of rain. The riders have been hit with hard rain during the race.

The race: Among others, Julian Alaphilippe & Paul Magnier (Both Soudal-Quick-Step) abandoned.

Here's the report from winner Tadej Pogacar's UAE Team Emirates:

Day one of the season for Pogačar, 81 km of solo attack, 2’44” on the first chaser: the numbers behind the second career success of Tadej Pogačar at Strade Bianche.

The Slovenian talent from UAE Team Emirates could not ask for a better debut in 2024, after he closed the previous season with the victory in Il Lombardia.

He made his move on the sector of Monte Sante Marie, where team mate Tim Wellens raised the pace of the head group, preparing the attack of Pogačar, who went solo when there were 81 km left to the arrival.

The advantage on the rivals raised immediately, with a maximum of 3’40”: with Tom Skuijns (Lidl-Trek, 2nd) and Maxim Van Gils (Lotto-Dstny, 3rd) behind. Pogačar completed a cycling masterpiece obtaining in Piazza del Campo in Siena his 64th career victory, 11th success for UAE Team Emirates in 2024.

Tadej Pogačar, who will race next in the Milano-Sanremo: “I attacked at 81 km to the finish line because the race had been really fast from the start and there had been an early heavy selection, we faced a sort of hail storm in the approach of the Monte Sante Marie sector and so the conditions were tough and there were few resources left in the head group. Wellens set a very demanding pace and then I decided to attack.

"When I knew I had a good gap, I only focuses my energies on going to the finish.

"The first race of the season is always difficult, but I did a perfect preparation during the winter and I worked hard to be ready for this debut and it worked. I had good feelings in the first part of the race, the team did a super good job, I felt fine also when it was raining a lot and so I understood it was the proper moment to attack.

"I really love this race, it has a huge charm, it is now very popular and it is one of the most difficult one day races in the world”.

Here are the live updates I posted during the race:

The finish: Tadej Pogacar powered to the finish line, coming in more than three minutes ahead of his nearest chasers, Tom Skujins & Maxim Van Gils. A truly masterful performance.

10 km to go. Pogacar is on the final gravel section, Le Tolfe, and is 3min 10sec ahead of Skuijins and Van Gils and 4min 30sec ahead of Thomas Pidcock. A six-man group with Benoit Cosnefroy, Matej Mohoric and Ben Healy is a further 26sec back.

40 kilometers to go, Tadej Pogacar is 3min 26sec ahead of his chasers! RCS Sport photo

19 km to go: Pogacar is 3min 10sec ahead of his first two chasers, Tom Skujins & Maxim Van Gils and 4min 30sec ahead of a 16-man group with Thomas Pidcock, Romain Bardet, Matej Mahoric & Ben Healy.

27km to go: Pocagar is 3min 33 seconds ahead of his first chaser, Maxim Van Gils (lotto Dstny) and 4min ahead of the first group of chasers.

48 km to go: Pogacar is now 2min 40sec ahead of his chasers.

60 kilometers to go: Pogacar is 2min 24 seconds ahead of a chase group of 24 riders who are not cooperating well.

Can he stay away? Tadej Pogacar went solo with 80 kilometers to go. RCS photo.

Pogacar is on fire! With the giant Monte Sante Marie gravel sector behind him and about 65 kilomters to go Pogacar is about two minutes ahead of his chasers.

With 80 kilometers to go Tadej Pogacar attacked and soon had a 22-second lead over a front group that was down to fewer than 30 riders.

Weather at the start/finish city of Siena at 2:15 PM, local time: 13C (56F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the west at 16 km/hr (10 mph). There is a 6% chance of rain.

The race: Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx) won the tenth edition of Strade Bianche Women Elite Crédit Agricole, 137km from Siena to Siena (Piazza del Campo). The World Champion crossed the finish line in the iconic square ahead of Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl – Trek) and Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx).

Speaking seconds after the finish, Lotte Kopecky said: “We were a bit more in control today. We played it really good as a team. I could have attacked Elisa Longo Borghini earlier but I did it at the right moment I think. I didn’t have my best legs today but it’s amazing to win Strade Bianche for the second time, especially with the rainbow jersey”.

Here's the report Lotte Kopecky's Team SD Worx-Protin:

After the final gravel stretch, five riders separated from the peloton: Demi Vollering, Lotte Kopecky, the duo of Elisa Longo-Borghini and Shirin van Anrooij and Kasia Niewiadoma. An acceleration by Demi Vollering threw Van Anrooij overboard. Niewiadoma responded, after which Lotte Kopecky strongly attacked. Only Elisa Longo-Borghini was able to follow. On the final climb in the streets of Siena, the Via Santa Catarina, the world champion accelerated after which she arrived solo.

Kopecky: "We had more control than last week in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. The whole team did a fantastic job. On Le Tolfe, Demi Vollering and I were in the front, which allowed us to play the team game perfectly. Demi went on, but was caught back. I was actually almost at the limit, but I had to attack. It was my turn to go."

To add honestly, "I actually didn't have the best day. I suffered the whole race. When I left this morning, I immediately felt I didn't have the best legs. But I often have that in a race and usually they don't really get worse as the race progresses. Again, my legs felt the same throughout the race. So I tried not to panic. On the Via Santa Catarina it was important not to attack too early. When I attacked, I went full speed until the last corner. Then I knew this win was in and that I could triumph in a very special way as world champion in the Piazza del Campo."

Sports manager Danny Stam was pleased with his team's performance. "This was a clever piece of team play. Where we were behind last week, this time we were present everywhere. Barbara Guarischi, Elena Cecchini, Mischa Bredewold and Niamh Fisher-Black showed excellent helpers. We found ourselves in the perfect situation with Lotte Kopecky and Demi Vollering ahead. This allowed them to attack in turn. When Lotte Kopecky was alone in front with Elisa Longo-Borghini, we were able to keep pressure from behind with Demi, forcing Longo-Borghini to pass. The ideal scenario. The way Lotte won and how much surplus she had left was impressive."
