Weather at the finish city of Münster at 2:10 PM, local time: 14C (57F), fair, with the wind from the southeast at 14 km/hr (11 mph). There is just a 1% chance of rain.

The race: Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) did not start.

Here's the race report from third-place Pavel Bittner's Team Picnic-PostNL:

Team Picnic PostNL were back in action on Friday afternoon at the Münsterland Giro, a race that the team has traditionally done well at with multiple top tens over the past few editions. This year saw the majority of climbing come in the early part of the parcours, with a much flatter finale that favoured a large bunch sprint finish – so the team set out with the motivation to do just that, and set up Pavel Bittner for the finale.

Throughout the day they were active and alert for any potential splits in the crosswinds but nothing materialised. The early breakaway was caught heading into the last 30 kilometres and attacks flew once more at the head of the peloton. The team made sure they were represented in any potential move but nothing got away, so coming onto the three shorter local laps in Münster a bunch sprint looked inevitable. On the narrow and twisting roads Team Picnic PostNL did well to hold their position at the front, which meant that five riders made it through to the front group after a crash split the bunch.

It was a hectic last five kilometres and closing lap, but the team did well to position Bittner as best as possible before the finale. Coming from behind and with speed, Bittner took a good line through the last corner and produced an impressive kick to the line, but just found two riders faster than him come the finish; securing a strong third place on the day for the team.

After the race Bittner expressed: “Today we went into what was a proper sprint race with a motivated team. It was quite windy but not much happened. We rode well together and even when it was nervous we managed to stick together. In the final there was a crash but we were in front of it and in the last laps the guys made sure that I could come through smoothly. I had good legs and in the sprint I tried to find a nice line to come with speed. I was doing that but to be beaten by Philipsen and De Lie is no shame, so we can be satisfied by third place. We just need to keep on working like this and hopefully the win will still come this year, but I’m pretty happy with today.”
