The race:
The Grand Prix de Fourmies-Le Voix du Nord is a single-day professional bicycle race held in the city of Fourmies in northeast France, near France's border with Belgium. Currently (2018) it is run in early September.
The first edition was held in 1928 with the intention of helping improve the quality of the area's racers. Twelve riders signed up to ride that first edition and only nine showed up at the start line.
In 1936 it was run as two half-stages. In 1960-1962, 1972 and 1973 it was a two-stage race.
The event was not held in 1966.
Since 2005 the Grand Prix de Fourmies has been ranked by the UCI as an HC race and is part of the Coup de France season-long competition.
The French daily Le Voix du Nord sponsors the GP de Fourmies.
Both the first winner, Albert Barthelemy and Belgian Jean-Luc Vandenbroucke are the only racers to win the GP Fourmies three times.
