2015 Tour of the Mediterranean Cancelled

A couple of days ago I reported that the financially troubled Tour of the Mediterranean (Tour Méditerranéen for you sticklers) would be run in mid-February in a shortened version.

Unfortunately, that won't happen. It seems the race still hasn't paid all the prize money due the racers from the 2014 edition and that was more than enough reason for the French National Cycling League to cancel the 2015 edition of the race.

This is a shame, the Tour of the Mediterranean has been run since 1974, and though it has had chronic financial troubles, the podium history of the race includes some of the modern age's greatest riders.

The head of the Association Olympique Cycliste Mediterranée, André Martes, which runs the Med Tour, is hoping it can run the race in 2016. I hope the race can be saved.
