Weather at the race city of Alcaudete at 1:40 PM, local time: 13C (55F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the north-northwest at 6 km/hr (4 mph). There is a 1% chance of rain.
The race: The race organization announced that the scheduled Saturday and Sunday stages will not be run because the needed race course security provided by law enforcement will not be available because of ongoing farmers' protests. The Stage 3 time trial is the only race in this year's Ruta del Sol.
Here's the race report from winner Maxim Van Gils' Team Lotto Dstny:
Maxim Van Gils immediately takes his first win in his first race of the season, in the only stage of the Ruta del Sol this year.
Unfortunately the Ruta del Sol consists only of one stage this year. Due to farmer protests, the organisation saw no other solution than to cancel the other stages. The stage that did take place today was an individual time trial over 5 kilometers in Alcaudete.
Maxim Van Gils set the fastest time and with that he also took home the general classification. Van Gils crossed the line in 8 minutes 17 seconds, 10 seconds faster than Juan Ayuso. "Firstly I didn't want to lose too much time, with the stage of tomorrow. During the recon I heard that the stage wouldn't take place tomorrow either, which of course wasn't nice to hear, but I was motivated to give it my all and such a short uphill time trial suits me. I immediately felt that I had good legs, but I never expected that I would win", says Van Gils.
"I also immediately rode to the bus after the time trial, then I heard that I had won and had to go to the podium, so it was great, it's still the Ruta del Sol. I felt good after the altitude training camp in Tenerife, it's a pity that the other stages have been cancelled now, but it is what it is. This was actually comparable to a 10-minute test on training camp, it's a good sign that I could win and it gives me confidence for what comes next."

Stage two is cancelled because the farmers' protests in the region are using the police the race organizer's need to keep the course safe. The organizer's expect they will be able to run stage three on Frida.
Here is the offical press release announcing the cancellation:
The Ruta del Vuelta Cyclist to Andalucia will resume next Friday with a time trial in Alcaudete and will conclude next Sunday.
Due to the inability to count on state security members, the race organization had to reduce the race to three stages, partly modifying the route of the stages. Waiting at all times for the problems arising from agricultural and transport claims in Spain to be resolved.
After the meeting between the organization, technical jury and team managers the stages of the Andalusian round will be: Friday 16 February time-time in Alcaudete (Jaén), Saturday 17 Lucena - Lucena Alto of Nuestra Señora de Araceli in Cordoba and, awaiting news about the development of The protests will be decided on the route of the last stage on Sunday February 18.
Friday's stage in Alcaudete will change to be a time-time race in a five-kilometer circuit in the town of Jienense. The next day, the test will take place at a circuit in Lucena city. It will be 100 kilometers with an accumulated slope of 2000 meters with ascent to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Araceli. This spectacular final witnessed the victory of Alejandro Valverde in 2012, in 2003 of Javier Pascual Llorente and in 1998 of Marcelino Garcia. The urban circuit in Lucena will be in the opposite direction initially planned on the initial route but with that hard arrival to the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Araceli.
The last planned stage, between the towns of Benahavís (Málaga) and the Linea de la Concepción (Cádiz) is expected to be able to travel as it was planned in the route book, although there is an option b in the case where you cannot count on the maximums security measures that require a test of this category.

Weather at the finish city of Cádiar
The race: Stage cancelled because of farmers' protests. The race organizer posted this explantion (machine translated from Spanish):
The organization of the 70th edition of the Ruta del Sol Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucía has been forced to suspend the first stage of the race that would have to link the towns of Almuñecar La Herradura and Cádiar in the province of Granada due to the absence of police force. There was public disorder caused by demonstrations in the agricultural and transportation sectors. The absence of the Civil Guard meant there wasn’t the necessary security for the race.
The suspension of the first stage of the Andalusian round has been motivated by the absence of law enforcement operations as the presence of the troops assigned to the race for the control of agricultural mobilizations and Spanish transportation was required.
The general director of Deporinter, the organizing company, stated that “the reason for the suspension is the lack of members of the Civil Guard who have had to go to their different detachments. "We took 100 troops plus the rural Civil Guard to pass through the different towns to ensure the safety of the test."
At the moment we are already working to find solutions for the next few days "we are going to meet with the technical jury and members of the team organization to shape the various solutions that we are considering so that the test can continue from tomorrow".
As we learn about these solutions, we will announce the measures taken by the organization through official channels and we ask for understanding in the face of a situation that has occurred due to problems beyond the control of this organization.
