Claude Criquielion

Claude Criquielion has time to sit up and enjoy his win.

The race and its winner: Winner Claude Criquielion was a complete rider who accumulated an impressive set of victories.

His first big win was the 1982 Brabantse Pijl and in 1983 he took the solo win in San Sebastian pictured above.

The next year he was World Road Champion. He continued to accumulate important victories, including the 1985 Flèche Wallone, 1986 Tour de Romandie & Midi Libre.

In 1987 he won both the Tour of Flanders and Le Samyn. In 1989 he again won the Flèche Wallone. His final notable victory was the 1990 Belgian Road Championships.

Criquielion went on to manage pro teams Lotto-Adecco and Landbouwkrediet-Colnago. He died of a brain hemorrhage in 2015
