Weather at Abu Dhabi at 9:00 AM, local time: 22C (71F), fair, with the wind from the south-southwest at 10 km/hr (6 mph). There is just a 1% chance of rain. The temperature is forecast to climb to 26C (79F) at 1:00 PM.

The route: A stage around the city of Abu Dhabi. Starting at the Zayed National Museum (Saadiyat Island), the route passes through Yas Island, Khalifa City, Yas Island, and returns to Abu Dhabi. The route crosses Yifenah Island, Al Reem Island, and Al Maryah Island, with a key passage at Qasr Al Hosn. The final approach leads from south to north, concluding at Abu Dhabi Breakwater in a likely sprint finish.

Final kilometres: The last 5 km are on a wide road with large half-curves leading to the finish line on tarmac.

The Race: Here's the race organizer's stage seven report.

Abu Dhabi Breakwater, 22 February 2026 – The UAE Tour comes to a close under the banner of Isaac Del Toro and Jonathan Milan. The Mexican rider rode a controlled and risk-free final stage, the Abu Dhabi Ports Group Stage, to secure the Unity Trophy in what was his first race of the season. Joining him on the final podium were Antonio Tiberi, winner in Jebel Mobrah, and Luke Plapp, back in the top 3 of The One and Only WorldTour race in the Middle East after three years.

The closing stage confirmed Jonathan Milan as the dominant sprinter of the race. The Italian claimed his third victory in as many bunch sprints and sealed the Green Jersey, a title he had already won in 2025 and successfully defended in this edition. In the final sprint, after the peloton reeled in the breakaway quartet of Callum Thornley, Daan Hoole, Aivaras Mikutis and Lorenzo Milesi with just 2 km to go, the Lidl-Trek sprinter powered to victory ahead of Erlend Blikra, once again second after Dubai, and Sam Welsford. In the other classifications, Del Toro also claimed the White Jersey, while Silvan Dillier secured the Black Jersey. UAE Team Emirates XRG rounded off the week by winning the team classification.

Speaking immediately after being presented with the Red Jersey and the race winner’s trophy on the podium, Isaac Del Toro said: “It’s really special, honestly, to win my first WorldTour stage race. I’m super happy with the guys, they helped me out tremendously. I can’t be prouder of this. It was a great feeling to ride in Abu Dhabi today, like the other day in the streets of Dubai watching the skyline. It was emotional on the bike today. I enjoyed that the race was so fast today. I’ll always remember this UAE Tour. Yesterday at Jebel Hafeet, we just followed the plan. It’s not easy to be a leader in this team because everyone is so good but it’s a big satisfaction to win our team’s home race”.

Speaking at the press conference, the Green Jersey and stage winner Jonathan Milan said: “It’s a nice result to finish the UAE Tour with three stage wins and the points classification. My team was really pushing me to achieve that. They led me out for my sprint, I thank them a lot for the support. The UAE Tour is also an excellent lead up to the classics. It’s never easy to win races but I realise that I’m a bit more confident than last year”.

GC Runner-up Antonio Tiberi said: “One week ago, I would have signed up for this second place. This final result, along with a nice stage victory, is amazing, especially at the beginning of the season. Isaac [Del Toro] is a big champion. Maybe he can become even bigger than Tadej [Pogacar]. Everybody saw him almost winning the Giro d’Italia last year at a super young age. If I continue the season with good feelings in the legs like now, I can be ambitious for the rest of the season”.

Third placed Luke Plapp said: “I really enjoy the UAE Tour. Coming from Australia, it’s a pleasure to use my form over the summer. I had good memories from making the podium already three years ago with Remco [Evenepoel] and Adam Yates. The field was stronger this year, so it makes me proud and happy to be in the top 3 again. Jebel Mobrah on stage 3 was the hardest climb I’ve ever done. It changed the race for the better. I’ll definitely come back to the UAE Tour. I always love to come here”.

The Black Jersey (Intermediate Sprint) Silvan Dillier said: “Being the last day, many teams didn’t have a realistic chance for the win in a bunch sprint finish. So many teams and riders tried to go in the breakaway so it went super fast. I already secured the intermediate sprints jersey so I rode my sprinter Gerben Thijssen who finished 7th. Our lead out guys did a pretty good. I helped as well. That’s why I didn’t go for one more breakaway but I’m happy with what I’ve done this week at the UAE Tour. I feel ready for the upcoming races in Belgium”.

STATISTICS

Isaac del Toro becomes the youngest ever winner of the UAE Tour at 22 years 2 months 26 days. The record belonged to his team-mate Tadej Pogacar: 22 years 5 months 6 days in 2021.

Isaac del Toro counts 24 pro wins at 22 years 2 months 26 days; at this age, his team-mate Tadej Pogacar counted 17 wins, the last one being the 2020 Tour de France GC (one day from his 22nd birthday).

Isaac del Toro is the first non-European winner of the UAE Tour.

So far 4 wins had gone to Slovenia, 2 to Belgium, 1 to Great Britain.

Antonio Tiberi (2nd) is the second Italian in the top-3 of the final GC of the UAE Tour after Giulio Ciccone, 2nd last year.

Luke Plapp (3rd) scored his second final GC podium at the UAE Tour after finishing 2nd in 2023 behind Remco Evenepoel.

Jonathan Milan scored his 30th pro win, the 5th this year, already more than halfway of his 2025 total (9).

At 50.566kph this was the fastest World Tour road stage since Arnaud Demare won the Matera-Brindisi stage of the 2020 Giro d’Italia at 51.234 kph, the fastest ever stage in Giro’s history.

Olympics 50 Craziest Stories

Les Woodland's book The Olympics' 50 Craziest Stories: A Five Ring Circus is available in print, Kindle eBook & audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.

Weather at the finish at Jebel Hafeet at 9:00 AM, local time: 22C (72F), fair, with the wind from the east at 5 km/hr (3 mph). No rain is forecast. The temperatrue is forecast to climb to 30C (85F) at 1:00 PM with the wind from the northwest at 8 km/hr (5 mph).

The route: The classic mountain stage of the UAE Tour. In the first part, the route winds its way through Al Ain, where many of its landmarks (UAE University, Al Qattara, Al Hili) are visited, then takes a long ride through the desert to the west and eventually returns to Green Mubazzarah. Here begins the final climb of Jebel Hafeet, which – at 10 km long – will be the final judge of the race.

Final kilometers
The final climb winds through wide-ranging hairpin bends on a 3-lane roadway. Gradients are mainly around 8-9%, peaking at 11% with 3 km to go. There is a very short descent in the last km, before the closing ramp. The finish line is on straight asphalt.

The stage: Here's the race organizer's report.

The Mexican national Isaac del Toro champion blows the race apart on the slopes of the final climb of the UAE Tour with an attack 2.5 km from the finish, dethroning Antonio Tiberi from the top of the general classification. Plapp and Gall finish behind him. Tomorrow, the grand finale at Abu Dhabi Breakwater.

Jebel Hafeet, 21 February 2026 – Isaac Del Toro made the most of the final opportunity, claiming victory on Jebel Hafeet to reclaim the Red Jersey with one stage remaining. The much-anticipated showdown between Del Toro and Antonio Tiberi lived up to expectations, with the Mexican national champion playing his cards perfectly by launching two attacks in the final five kilometres.

The second move, unleashed with 2.5 km to go, proved decisive: Tiberi was first dropped, then later caught and passed by Luke Plapp and Felix Gall, who completed the stage podium. In the general classification, Del Toro now leads by 20 seconds over Tiberi and 1’14” over Plapp, who moves onto the provisional podium at the expense of Harold Tejada. The eighth edition of the UAE Tour will conclude tomorrow in Abu Dhabi, with the final stage finishing at Abu Dhabi Breakwater, a day expected to favour the sprinters.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner Isaac Del Toro said: “I was convinced that I could win today. Up the hill, it was a mental game with Antonio Tiberi. I was confident enough to keep trying. It didn’t work the first time so I had to go again. As a team we had the winning mentality today. As I went solo with 2.5km to go, I could see the gap but I had to try and increase the gap as much as I could till the line. Today’s win is in the top 3 of my career so far. It’s so special to win with such a great team. It’s time for me to realise that I have to believe in myself as much as my team does”.

The race will leave the city in the direction of the desert, passing the classic sites of these stages such as the Al Qudra Cycletrack and the Meydan Racecourse before reaching the finish area. The entire route winds along very wide and essentially straight, roads interspersed with roundabouts that have a very large radius and are well paved.

Final kilometers: The finale is on a wide avenue, with a 700 m straight.

The stage: Here's the race organizer's stage five report.

Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University, 20 February 2026 – Italy continues its perfect run at the UAE Tour, as Jonathan Milan confirms his status as the fastest man in the race. After yesterday’s victory in Fujairah, the Lidl-Trek sprinter delivered another commanding performance in Dubai, claiming his second consecutive stage win.

This time, Erlend Blikra—celebrating his first career WorldTour podium—and Matteo Malucelli, once again among the top three on this finish as he was in 2025, were left to contest the remaining podium places behind the Italian. Earlier in the day, the breakaway once more tested the peloton, with Gianni Moscon, Nickolas Zukowsky and Black Jersey wearer Silvan Dillier holding on until just after the final three kilometres. The general classification remains unchanged, with Antonio Tiberi still in control ahead of the race’s second and final summit finish at Jebel Hafeet, where the overall standings are set to be decided.

Roman philosopher Seneca’s Letter to his Friend Lucilius and an Essay Addressed to Emperor Nero is available in both audiobook and Kindle eBook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.

Weather at the start/finish city of Fujairah at 9:00 AM, local time: 24C (76F), fair, with the wind from the west-northwest at 11 km/hr (7 mph). No rain is forecast. The temperature is forecast to climb to 28C (82F) by 2:00 PM.

The route: The stage starts in Fujairah and features a turnaround in the enclaves of Hatta (Dubai) and Masfut (Ajman), crossing the desert areas of the Hajar Mountains. This is the stage that passes through the greatest number of different Emirates. The entire route takes place on wide, well-paved roads, mostly straight through the desert, where wind and sometimes sand may be a factor.

Final kilometres: The final km is on a wide avenue.

The race: Here's the race organizer's stage four report.

A thrilling finale marked Stage 4 of the UAE Tour, delivering a second consecutive stage win for an Italian rider. Jonathan Milan powered to victory in the sprint, beating Vernon and his brother Matteo, who claimed the first WorldTour podium of his career.

The sprint finish was far from a foregone conclusion, as the four-man breakaway – Patrick Gamper, Stefan De Bod, Lorenzo Milesi and Georg Steinhauser – held off the peloton until inside the final kilometre, setting up a dramatic conclusion. On the eve of the Dubai stage, once again suited to the sprinters, there are no changes in the overall standings, with Antonio Tiberi still holding the Red Jersey.

Speaking in the press conference, the stage winner Jonathan Milan said: “I still feel some pain in my hand but I’m fine after the crash on stage 1. It feels great to win today and even more with my younger brother also in the top 3. I saw him in the last kilometre, that’s the last moment I saw him. After finish, I saw him cheering on me and he came to me to say that he was third. This is his first WorldTour race, let’s don’t put pressure on him please! I’m really proud of what he did today, he’ll have many years to have fun and to enjoy cycling. We’ll see in the future if he gets as fast as me, but let him enjoy cycling first and we’ll figure out what he’ll become”.

The Red Jersey Antonio Tiberi said: “Today I started to realise a bit what I did yesterday. It’s been a great performance. I’m super happy with it. Today it’s been another good job with the team, we made sure that nobody was dangerous in the breakaway. It’s really nice to put on the red jersey, I like it and I hope to bring it home. Tomorrow, it should be another sprint finish. I know Jebel Hafeet, it’s a pretty good climb for me, I’ll do my best to keep the jersey. I won’t only look at Isaac Del Toro. I consider everyone, some other guys here are in good shape and I believe Remco [Evenepoel] will try something on Saturday”.

The Story of the Giro d’Italia, vol.1 Shade Vise sunglass holder Paris-Roubaix: The Inside Store

Wednesday, February 18: Stage 3, Umm Al Quwain - Jebel Mobrah, 183 km

Stage 3 map & profile

Antonio Tiberi wins stage three.

Weather at Ras Al Khaimah, on the route, at 9:00 AM, local time: 22C (71F), with the wind from the south at 2 km/hr (1 mph). No rain is forecast. The temperature is forecast to climb to 27C (81F) at noon.

The route: The first of the two mountain stages of the UAE Tour. The stage is divided into two distinct parts. The first one approaches the final mountain by undulating through the desert, while the last one features approximately 20 km of continuous climbing all the way to the finish. Starting in Umm Al Quwain, the race reaches Ras Al Khaimah and returns to the desert. The race heads straight for Jebel Mobrah. The final climb is approximately 15 km long: the first part averages 7% up to the first summit, followed by 6 km at an average gradient of 12%.

Final kilometres: Final climb with very steep gradients (maximum 17%). Gradients constantly above 10–12% up to the finish.

The race: 145 riders started the stage at 12:37.

Here's the race organizer's stage three summary:

The unprecedented uphill finish at Jebel Mobrah shakes up the general classification, delivering both the stage win and the Red Jersey to Antonio Tiberi, who secures the first WorldTour victory of his career. The Bahrain Victorious rider responded to the initial attacks launched by Felix Gall, taking control with 4000 metres to go and managing to hold off the comeback by Isaac Del Toro.

Anothger shot of Antonio Tiberi winning stage three.

The latter had approached the brutal gradients of the final climb cautiously before finishing 15” behind the new Red Jersey and ahead of the 2024 winner, Lennert Van Eetvelt. A different story for Remco Evenepoel, who tried to respond to the early attacks but then lost ground, crossing the line 2’03” down on the winner. In the general classification, Tiberi leads by 21” over Del Toro and 1’00” over Harold Tejada. Rounding out the provisional top five are Lennert Van Eetvelt and Luke Plapp.

Weather at Al Hudayriat Island at 9:00 AM, local time: 22C (72F), fair, with no measurable wind and a 2% chance of rain. The temperature is forecast to climb to 27C (80C) at 1PM with the wind from the west-northwest at 8 km/hr (5 mph) and a 1% chance of rain.

The route: Stage 2 is an Individual Time Trial that takes place entirely inside Al Hudayriyat Island. The route is very fast and features only a few right-angle bends and two U-turns. The road is perfectly flat, wide and with sweeping turns, which will allow the riders to maintain very high speeds (wind permitting).
Final kilometers: Wide curves, wide road, excellent pavement. The finish line is on asphalt.

The race: Here's the report from the race organizer.

Remco Evenepoel asserted his dominance by flying at an average speed of 56.092 km/h and stripping the Red Jersey from Isaac Del Toro, who finished 42 seconds back. Joshua Tarling and Rémi Cavagna completed the stage podium. Tomorrow sees the first-ever uphill finish at Jebel Mobrah, featuring double-digit gradients.

Al Hudayriyat Island, 17 February 2026 – The three-time world time trial champion Remco Evenepoel lived up to expectations, claiming victory in the Breitling ITT Stage on Al Hudayriyat Island and, in addition to the stage win, taking over the Red Jersey as leader of the general classification. Securing his seventh win of the season, Evenepoel covered the 12.2 km course in 13’03”, at an average speed of over 56 km/h—enough to leave Joshua Tarling (6”) and Rémi Cavagna (12”) behind him. Former Red Jersey holder Isaac Del Toro finished 42” down, the same time as Ben O’Connor, and behind other GC contenders such as Antonio Tiberi (34”) and Derek Gee (35”). Further back were Michael Storer (47”), Felix Gall (57”), Lennert Van Eetvelt (1’03”), and Adam Yates (1’04”). Tomorrow, the general classification is set for another major shake-up with the unprecedented uphill finish at Jebel Mobrah: 14.9 km at an average gradient of 8.6%, with sustained ramps above 12% over the final 6 km.

And here's the report from winner Remco Evenepoel's Team Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe:

Remco Evenepoel delivered a commanding performance on Stage 2 of the UAE Tour, powering to victory in the 12.2km circuit on Hudayriyat Island and moving into the overall race lead.

On a flat and non-technical course, the Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe rider stopped the clock with a time of 13:03 minutes, averaging 56.1km/h in a blisteringly fast display against the clock. This marked his second time trial win of 2026 and his seventh victory of the season so far.

“It was pretty quick. The course was completely flat, not super technical, so it was the perfect course to try and ride that fast,” he said afterwards. “I’m very happy to have pulled it off today.” - Remco Evenepoel

Starting early as the fifth rider off the ramp, Evenepoel laid down the benchmark and then spent nearly two hours in the hot seat as rivals attempted to match his time. With no-one able to do so, the Belgian moved into the red leader’s jersey and also pulled on the green jersey after two stages.

Looking ahead to the decisive days to come, he was level-headed about his objective. “In 2023, when I won the UAE Tour overall, I didn’t take any stage victories apart from the team time trial, so to take my first individual stage victory at this race is great.

"The battle for the general classification is on. It’s always better to go into that ahead rather than behind, to defend rather than have to attack, so I think it’s a good situation for us. Now we’ll work hard to defend the race lead until the final stage," Evenepoel said.

Speaking about today’s result and reflecting on the racing still to come, Sports Director Klaas Lodewyck is mindful of what lies ahead: “It was a really good day for us. We had a big objective to try and win the stage today, and that’s exactly what Remco did. He has a nice time gap in the general classification for the moment, but the race isn’t over. Tomorrow we’ve got a really hard climb coming up in the finale, so by tomorrow evening we’ll know more about where we’re at.”

Tomorrow brings the first summit finish of the race at Jebel Mobrah, where Evenepoel and his team will face the first major climbing test of this year’s edition.

Monday, February 16: Stage 1, Madinat Zayed Majlis - Liwa Palace, 144 km 118 km

Stage 1 map & profile

Isaac del Toro (right) wins stage one.

Weather at the finish city of Liwa at 9:00 AM, local time: 21C (69F), sunny, with the wind from the northwest at 27 km/hr (17 mph). The temperature is forecast to climb to 28C (82F) at 2:00 PM. No rain is forecast.

The route: Because of high winds the stage was shortened to 118 km.

The desert stage. The first part (north-south direction) is about 45 km long, on wide, straight roads. After reaching Liwa, the race enters an area of very pronounced dunes, which make up most of the stage. A series of ups and downs leads to Moreeb Dune, where the race will take two laps of the Moreeb Dune cycle path (18.1 km each lap), marked by rather steep climbs and descents with double digit gradients. It then returns to Liwa for the finish. The stage is on wide, straight roads with good pavement.
Final kilometres: The stage finale features a wide bend on a roundabout. The home straight is all uphill, around 5%.

The race: Martin Urianstad Bugge (Uno-X Mobility) did not start.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner and first Red Jersey Isaac Del Toro said: “This is really crazy and unbelievable. I was thinking there might be a chance but that was a dream, not being realistic. During the stage I questioned my teammates if they could see this properly happening but it’s still crazy that I’ve made it. I saw a possibility to try and win. I didn’t want to finish the race with any regrets. I saw a rider opening a gap so I went but while I was sprinting I didn’t know where the other riders were. I went full gas. Like two years ago at the Tour Down Under, winning in the first race of the year is something you want but it’s even better to do it for my team here in the UAE”.

Here's the report from winner Isaac del Toro's UAE Team Emirates:

Mexican sensation Isaac Del Toro kicked off the 2026 UAE Tour in thrilling fashion today, powering to victory on Stage 1 and claiming the first leader’s jersey of the race for UAE Team Emirates-XRG. The young star’s bold racing under challenging wind conditions set the tone for a spectacular opening day at the premier World Tour cycling event in the Middle-East.

The stage one start line.

The stage, originally planned at 144 km from Madinat Zayed to Liwa Palace, was shortened to 118 km due to strong crosswinds across exposed desert roads – a move made to protect rider safety. Even with the route reduction and tricky conditions, the race delivered drama, highlighted by a late crash that took out several contenders, including sprint favourite Jonathan Milan, and a fast, uphill finish where Del Toro launched his decisive attack.

After some exceptional teamwork and positioning, Del Toro made his move in the closing metres, riding powerfully out of the final drag to outpace Cees Bol (Decathlon CMA CGM Team) and Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain-Victorious) in a reduced sprint. The Mexican’s timing and strength in the finale were impeccable, showcasing his explosive speed and confidence against top-level competition – and putting UAE Team Emirates-XRG in prime position for the week ahead.

Racing across the desert.

Del Toro: “The team was incredible, I’d like to thank them all for what they did. It was one of my first days experiencing this kind of wind, it made things really hard. It’s nice to have a lead but I’ll keep my feet on the ground, there are many hard stages to come. We all know Remco is unbelievably fast on the TT bike so I’ll aim to be as close as I can be to him or the same as him, or even better.”

Del Toro now wears the leader’s jersey as the UAE Tour shifts focus to an individual time trial on Stage 2 and the first of the climbing tests later in the week. Today’s triumph marks a perfect start to the season for the Mexican rider and will delight the home crowds.
