Weather at the finish city of Putrajaya at 11:40 AM, local time: 32C (90F), fair, with the wind from the west-southwest at 5 km/hr (3 mph). At noon there is a 67% chance of rain, dropping to 35% at 4:00 PM
The stage: Stage 8 concludes the 2026 Le Tour de Langkawi with a 188.3km ride from the royal town of Muar to the nation’s administrative capital, Putrajaya. Predominantly flat and fast, the route favors the sprinters, but fatigue from a week of racing could open opportunities for late breakaways. With the overall classification largely settled, the peloton will battle for one final stage victory before the race culminates in a spectacular high-speed finish against the iconic backdrop of Putrajaya.
The race: Here's the race organizer's stage eight report.
PUTRAJAYA – Matteo Malucelli met his personal target of leaving with three stage victories as he dominated Stage 8, the final stage of Le Tour de Langkawi 2026 (LTdL 26), which concluded in Putrajaya today.
The victory, his ninth overall career stage win at LTdL since 2024 – confirmed the 32-year-old Italian rider as the winner of the Sprint King blue jersey, sponsored by the 2027 SEA Games and Para Games Organising Secretariat (MASOC), equaling the stage win record held by Graeme Brown.
However, it remains well behind the record of 24 stage wins held by another Italian rider who once wore the XDS-Astana jersey, Andrea Guardini.
In the final sprint following the 188.3km ride from Muar, Malucelli once again beat Modern Adventure Cycling Team, Riley Pickrell, with Christian Van Rees (Picnic PostNL) finishing third as the main peloton crossed the line in 4 hours 6 minutes 17 seconds.
Meanwhile, Tudor Pro Cycling Team rider Lennart Jasch secured two jerseys at the conclusion of the 8-stage tour. He wore the Individual General Classification (GC) orange jersey, sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), with a cumulative time of 26 hours 57 minutes 02 seconds – 26 seconds ahead of his contender from Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, Abel Balderstone.
Jasch, a 25-year-old Munich native who transitioned from speed skating to professional cycling less than three years ago, also locked in the King of the Mountains polka dot jersey sponsored by Bubbles O2 with 45 points, 4 points ahead of Wheeltop Rotor Chengdu rider Petr Rikunov.
Meanwhile, Aisan Racing Team rider Yuhi Todome capped off his hard effort on the Gunung Jerai climb by taking home the Best Asian Rider title, winning the white jersey sponsored by the National Sports Council (MSN), finishing 3 minutes 44 seconds ahead of Malaysian rider Tsen Ren Bao representing St George Continental Cycling Team.
In the team category, Caja Rural was crowned the best overall team in this 30th edition of LTdL26, clocking a cumulative overall time of 87 hours 02 minutes 12 seconds, 3 minutes 33 seconds ahead of Unibet Rose Rockets.
Indonesian representatives, Nusantara Cycling Team, retained their status as the Best Asian Team (87:42.33s), finishing 4 minutes 34 seconds ahead of WheelTop Rotor Chengdu.
Recounting his victory in Stage 8, Malucelli stated that his efforts succeeded due to the flawless teamwork of teammates Lev Gonov and Gleb Syritsa, who lead him out before opening a comfortable gap heading into the finish line.
“Today we controlled the race with Harold (Martin Lopez) and Aaron (Gates) working to chase down the breakaway group, and Gonov and Syritsa set me up at the front before sprinting in the final 50 meters. It was clearly great teamwork.
“Frankly, racing against just one or two main rivals is harder than when there are many sprinters. This time, other teams were more focused on GC standings, so there weren’t as many sprinters, which made head-to-head battles easier.
“I hope this success at LTdL26 convinces the team to send me here again in the future. I love racing in Malaysia, it feels like everyone knows me here,” said Malucelli, acknowledging that he feels more popular in Malaysia than in his home country of Italy.
As in the previous seven stages, several breakaway attempts were made. This time, a six-man breakaway group consisting of Oda Hijiri and Rui Udagawa (Aisan), Ibai Azanza (Equipo Kern Pharma), Zeb Kyffin (TSG), Jonathan Caicedo (Chengdu), and Peerapol Chawchiangwank successfully broke clear, controlling sprint zones at Simpang Ampat, Seremban and Nilai, as well as a climb zone at Bukit Mantin, before the peloton, driven by Tudor and Astana reeled them in.
Upon entering Putrajaya, the peloton accelerated quickly and Astana positioned four riders at the front, repeating the winning strategy Malucelli deployed in Stage 1 (Kampar) and Stage 3 (Kuala Kangsar).
A joyful tone was shared by Jasch, who had initially targeted only a top-five finish, but strong results at Gunung Jerai allowed him to focus on defending both the orange and polka dot jerseys he claimed.
“There may have been a minor error at Cameron Highlands (won by Rikunov), but I redeemed myself and held on until the end.
“Today, just like the three days before this, was extremely tough due to the longer distance and very hot weather. There were constant challenges, but I’m glad I received great support from my teammates.
“It feels wonderful every time I step onto the podium while hearing the music (Simply The Best), but that comes from hard work over the past few years and the trust given by management.
“It’s unbelievable. Less than a year as a professional cyclist and now I’ve won a 2.ProSeries status race. I hope this opens more eyes.
“Success here is deeply meaningful and special to me because I accomplished it outside of Europe,” said Jasch, who will fly to Italy next to compete in the 239km Giro Il Lombardia from Bergamo to Como this Saturday.

Stage 8 profile
Saturday, October 3: Stage 7, Melaka - Batu Pahat, 158.9 km

A clearly happy Nil Gimeno wins stage seven.
Les Woodland's book Cycling's World Championships: The Inside Story is available in print, Kindle eBook & audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.
Weather at the finish city of Batu Pahat at 12:00 Noon, local time: 31C (88F), mostly cloudy, with the wind from the south-southwest at 8 km/hr (5 mph). There is an 11% chance of rain.
The stage: Stage 7 covers 158.9km from the historic city of Melaka to Batu Pahat, offering one of the final opportunities for the sprinters before the race concludes. The route travels through the mostly flat coastal plains of Melaka and Johor, with long, exposed roads that could see crosswinds split the peloton. After the demanding mountain stages earlier in the week, riders will rely on strong teamwork and positioning as sprint teams aim to control the race for a fast finish in Batu Pahat.
The race: Here's the race organizer's stage seven summary.
BATU PAHAT, Johor – Equipo Kern Pharma rider Nil Gimeno Ferrer pulled off a surprise victory to claim the first professional win of his career after winning Stage 7 of the Le Tour de Langkawi 2026 (LTdL26) from Melaka to Batu Pahat, Johor today.
In a flat stage expected to end in a mass sprint finish, Gimeno who was part of an early breakaway group that initially featured seven riders before shrinking to four, did a great effort to outpace Burgos Burpellet-BH rider Mario Aparicio and Andrei Stepanov of Wheeltop Rotor Chengdu who finished third.
Dutch rider Adne van Engelen of Terengganu TSG, who was also in the lead group, was awarded the Most Combative Rider for Stage 7.
Gimeno completed the 158.9km route, which started at Dataran Pahlawan, Melaka and finished at Jalan Rahmat, Batu Pahat with a time of 3 hours, 12 minutes and 33 seconds – 33 seconds ahead of the main peloton led by Stage 6 winner Riley Pickrell of Modern Adventure Cycling Team.
At the end of Stage 7, held under scorching heat, all jersey leaders retained their respective classifications. Overall General Classification (GC) Orange Jersey holder Lennart Jasch (Tudor Pro Cycling), sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), comfortably maintained his lead with a 26-second cushion over his nearest rival, Abel Balderstone (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA).
With no climb zones during the stage, Jasch also retained the King of the Mountains Polka Dot Jersey (sponsored by Bubbles O2), holding a 4-point lead over Petr Rikunov (Wheeltop Rotor Chengdu).
Meanwhile, Stage 1 and Stage 3 winner Matteo Malucelli of WorldTeam XDS-Astana, who leads the Sprint Points classification with 49 points, will continue to battle his closest challenger, Pickrell (45 points), for the Blue Jersey (sponsored by the 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games Secretariat – MASOC) until tomorrow’s final stage.
Aisan Racing Team rider Yuhi Todome also safely held onto the National Sports Council (MSN) Best Asian Rider White Jersey, maintaining a 3-minute, 44-second lead over Malaysian rider Tsen Ren Bao of St George Continental Cycling Team.
The Stage 7 victory was immensely meaningful for Gimeno, a 22-year-old native of Valladolid, who had finished 51st overall and 3rd in the King of the Mountains classification during his LTdL debut last year.
“I am so happy, in fact I still can’t believe it. It feels like being on the moon. I admit I felt a bit awkward being surrounded by journalists and answering questions during the press conference.
“Undeniably, this is a meaningful victory, not just for me, but for all my teammates, the crew and team management, because our team’s status for next season remains uncertain and we might be disbanded.
“I hope today’s win can convince our sponsors or new sponsors to help this team survive,” said Gimeno who launched his sprint at the precise moment from the left side of the route toward the finish line.
He added that all the riders in the breakaway worked hard to ensure a safe gap ahead of the chasing peloton led by Astana and Tudor. Meanwhile, Jasch, a German rider from Munich, acknowledged that the peloton was forced to work hard all day to catch the fast-moving lead group.
“Yes, we are getting closer (to the final stage) and it looks easy, but in reality all the riders worked extremely hard. I couldn’t believe the speed tempo of the front group today.
“However, I just needed to hold on, and the picture of being crowned GC winner of this tour is becoming clearer. Tomorrow is the final day, and I must hold on,” said Jasch, who won Stage 2 at the summit of Gunung Jerai and has held the lead ever since.
Tomorrow, the 8th and final stage will flag off in Muar and finish in Putrajaya, covering a distance of 188.3km. It will serve as the final opportunity for riders to challenge for the four main jerseys in this 30th edition of LTdL.
A total of 109 remaining riders will be flagged off at Dataran Tanjung Emas, Muar, tackling three sprint zones in Simpang Ampat, Seremban and Nilai as well as a Category 3 climb zone at Bukit Mantin, before finishing at Presint 3, Putrajaya.
The stage is expected to end in a bunch sprint finish, though a breakaway move by a small group, similar to Stage 7 is not ruled out.

Friday, October 2: Stage 6, Pandan Indah - Rembau, 121.3 km

Riley Pickrell wins stage six.
Les Woodland's book Dirty Feet: How the Great Unwashed Created the Tour de France is available in print, Kindle eBook & audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.
Weather at the finish city of Rembau at 11:30 AM, local time: 27C (80F), raining, with the wind from the southeast at 3 km/hr (2 mph). There is a 60% chance that scattered thunderstorms will continue through 4:00 PM.
The stage: Stage 6 covers 121.3km from Pandan Indah to Rembau, providing a welcome transition after the demanding mountain stages. The route heads south through the rolling landscapes of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, favoring the sprinters while still offering opportunities for breakaway riders on the undulating terrain. With fatigue from the previous climbs lingering in the peloton, teamwork and race tactics will be crucial as the fast men target a bunch sprint finish in Rembau.
The race:
Here's the race organizer's stage six report:
REMBAU, Negeri Sembilan – Following two close calls, Riley Pickrell of the Modern Adventure Cycling Team captured his first Le Tour de Langkawi 2026 (LTdL26) stage win today, out-sprinting the peloton in Stage 6 from Pandan Indah to Rembau, Negeri Sembilan.
Pickrell, 25, who previously conceded to the prowess of XDS-Astana rider Matteo Malucelli, the current holder of the Sprint King blue jersey sponsored by the 2027 SEA and Para Games Organizing Secretariat (MASOC) on Stages 1 and 3, proved to have more power in today’s final dash.
The Canadian rider led the main peloton to wrap up the 121.3km route with a time of 2 hours, 40 minutes and 6 seconds. With 10 bonus points earned, he continues to challenge Malucelli (44 points), narrowing the gap to just 5 points.
To make his victory even sweeter – his parents, Douglas and Susan were present to witness his win, having followed the Victoria City, Vancouver native’s campaign since Stage 1 in Kampar.
However, a slight piece of bad news came in the form of a relegation penalty handed to his lead-out man, Scott McGill for a deviation infraction while celebrating Pickrell’s victory.
Tudor Pro Cycling rider Lennart Jasch retained the overall leader’s orange jersey sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS). He also practically secured the King of the Mountains polka dot jersey sponsored by Bubbles O2 for this 30th edition by adding 3 more points to his tally, 4 points ahead of his closest rival Petr Rikunov (TopWheel Rotor Chengdu), who won in Cameron Highlands.
Aisan Racing Team rider Yuhi Todome, who crossed the line in 25th place, retained the Best Asian Rider white jersey sponsored by the National Sports Council (NSC) since Stage 2 at Gunung Jerai.
However, victory did not come easy for Pickrell, who expressed his gratitude to his teammates for positioning him well coming into the final bend, roughly 400 meters from the finish line.
“The goal of coming to this LTdLis to win a stage, and it paid off today after coming so close twice before this.
“We reviewed our mistakes from previous stages and managed to rectify them today. There are two more flat stages ahead, and I will try my very best to win again,” said the former Israel-Premier Tech ProTeam rider, who joined Modern Adventure this season.
Meanwhile, Malucelli, who has worn the blue jersey since his Stage 1 victory from Shah Alam to Kampar, admitted to feeling the fatigue, particularly after the two early climbing zones at Ampang and Bukit Hantu.
“The peloton moved at a fast pace, and I struggled a bit after those climbs. My teammates had to wait and pull me back into the pack. But credit to him (Pickrell), he had more energy today, and sometimes my strategy just doesn’t work.
“However, I will keep trying to add to my stage win tally over the remaining two flat stages,” said the Italian rider, who won the LTdL 2024 Sprint King title with the Japanese team, UKYO.
Jasch noted that his effort to gather points at the Ampang climb was out of respect for the King of the Mountains jersey he was targeting, alongside the orange jersey he has worn every day.
“Every jersey demands respect and is very valuable. Now there are only two stages left, and we will continue to give our best in every stage.
“Although it looks easy, the reality is far from it because we are forced to work hard every day to keep an eye on our closest rivals, chase down breakaways and control the pace,” said the 25-year-old German rider, who holds a comfortable 42-second lead over his closest contender, Jan Castellon Ribalt from Caja Rural.
He also praised his teammate, Seppe Van den Boer, for repeating his third-place finish following his earlier performance in Stage 2 at Kuala Kangsar.
The stage 6 race – held under scorching weather, saw an early breakaway group of three riders in Alan Jousseaume (TotalEnergies), Julen Arriola (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and Adne van Engelen (Terengganu TSG) made a move.
They were later joined by four other riders – Kieran Haug (Modern Adventure), Juan Martinez (Picnic PostNL), Mikel Retegi (Equipo Kern Pharma) and Rikunov, who together opened up a gap of nearly 2 minutes ahead.
The peloton, led by Astana and Tudor, picked up the pace to reel in the breakaway group, ultimately neutralizing attempts by Retegi and Jousseaume inside the final 7km.
LTdL26 continues tomorrow with Stage 7, covering a distance of 158.9km from Malacca City to Batu Pahat, Johor. The route features three intermediate sprint zones at Tangkak, Bukit Kepong and Parit Sulong before ending at Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim.

Thursday, October 1: Stage 5, Tapah - Genting Highlands, 125.7 km

Nicolas Breuillard wins a big one.
Plato's dialogue Phaedo is available in both audiobook & Kindle eBook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.
Weather at the finish town of Genting Highlands at 11:20 AM, local time: 22C (72F), mostly cloudy, with the wind from the east at 5 km/hr (3 mph). Starting at noon, there is a 51% chance of scattered thunderstorms, rising to a 74% chance at 1:00 PM.
The stage: Stage 5, the Queen Stage of the 2026 Le Tour de Langkawi, covers 125.7km from Tapah to Genting Highlands and is expected to be the race’s ultimate test. After a rolling opening section, riders face the legendary Hors Catégorie climb to Genting Highlands, renowned for its steep gradients and relentless ascent. Following back-to-back mountain stages, fatigue will be a major factor, with only the strongest climbers expected to contend for victory. This decisive summit finish is likely to determine the overall general classification standings.
The race: Mattia Gaffuri (Picnic-PostNL) did not start and early in the stage Taejun Park (KSPO) abandoned.
Here's the race organizer's stage five summary:
GENTING HIGHLANDS – TotalEnergies rider Nicolas Breuillard pulled off a surprise victory in a grueling Stage 5 of the 2026 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL26) from Tapah to Genting Highlands today.
Executing a well-planned strategy, the Pertuis, France-born cyclist joined an early breakaway and dominated the ride up front, completing the 125.7km stage in 3 hours 11 minutes 26 seconds, 8 seconds ahead of Burgos Burpellet-BH rider Josh Burnett.
Tudor Cycling Team’s Lennart Jasch, who wear the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS)-sponsored orange General Classification (GC) leader’s jersey, displayed a calm composure throughout the Hors Category climb to secure third place, ahead of his closest contender Abel Balderstone (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), who finished sixth.

Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore...
By collecting an additional 16 points for a total of 35 points in the King of the Mountains classification, Jasch reclaimed the Bubbles O2-sponsored polka-dot jersey, which he had lost to Stage 4 winner Petr Rikunov (Wheeltop Rotor Chengdu) at Cameron Highlands yesterday.
Meanwhile, Aisan Racing Team rider Yuhi Todome, who finished 15th at the summit (about 1,629 meters above sea level), retained the National Sports Council (MSN)-sponsored white jersey as the Best Asian Rider.
XDS-Astana’s Matteo Malucelli holds on to the MASOC (2027 SEA Games and Para Games Organising Secretariat)-sponsored blue Sprint jersey with 32 points, 8 points ahead of his closest rival, Riley Pickrell of Modern Adventure Cycling Team.
The two rivals opted not to contest the three intermediate sprint zones, choosing instead to conserve their energy and finish the stage to prepare for the remaining three flat stages.
This 30th edition of LTdL26 at Genting Highlands also marked a historical milestone for Breuillard, who became the first French rider to win atop Genting Highlands, a summit traditionally dominated by Latin American cyclists.
He decided to join five other riders in a break near the first sprint zone in Slim River. The lead group steadily increased their pace, building a gap of nearly 4 minutes and 25 seconds ahead of the main field, which grew to 5 minutes and 15 seconds after passing the third sprint zone in Batang Kali.
However, as they crossed the start line of the climb zone, the front group began to splinter until Breuillard, Bardiani CSF 7 Saber rider Edward Cruz, Burnett and Robin Carpenter (Modern Adventure) reached the final 15km of the ascent.
As Breuillard and Burnett raised their pace, Cruz and Carpenter dropped back, eventually rejoining a chasing group of climbing specialists that included Jasch, Balderstone, Jan Castellon Ribalt (Caja Rural) and Jose Manuel Diaz Gallego (Burgos).
Breuillard who placed 50th in his Tour de France debut last July and is set to join WorldTeam Astana for the 2027–2028 seasons, held firm and launched a decisive attack to distance Burnett with 2km remaining.
“I am thrilled with today’s victory. It was all down to careful planning and team effort, especially Valentin Retailleau, who helped protect me in the front group,” said Breuillard.
“My goal coming here was to chase a good position in the GC, and every day we try our best. Personally, I really wanted to win a stage this year. After the first climbing stage (Gunung Jerai), we started riding better, and my teammates kept motivating me. In the end, we produce great result today,” he added.
Breuillard took over GC duties after TotalEnergies’ primary climber, Geoffrey Bouchard, was forced to withdraw following a crash in Stage 1 at Kampar.
Meanwhile, Jasch mentioned that he stayed composed throughout the race despite the heat, supported by his team who kept the situation under control despite the break ahead.
“The group out front was quite fast, building almost a 5 minute gap heading into the climb. My rhythm was nearly disrupted when a few riders crashed ahead of me.
“Fortunately, in the final 7km, the weather cooled down, allowing me to focus even as I was under constant pressure from the two Caja Rural contenders (Balderstone and Ribalt).
“Now holding a 26-second lead, my focus for the remaining three stages is to stay close to Abel, and my team will certainly work hard to protect me,” said the 25-year-old German rider.
In addition, the Tsen brothers – sons of Malaysian cycling legend Tsen Seong Hoong, also featured with Tsen Ren Han representing the Malaysian national team and Tsen Ren Bao riding for St George Continental Team. They finished 29th and 30th respectively, 5 minutes 32 seconds behind Breuillard.
“He is only 19 years old, so I am very proud of his performance today and hope we can continue to improve. Yes, I saw my father and younger sister cheering alongside the fans. It was a very special moment,” said Ren Bao, who currently sits 25th overall, 3 minutes 44 seconds behind white jersey holder Todome.
LTdL26 continues tomorrow with Stage 6 from Pandan Indah to Rembau in Negeri Sembilan. The 121.7km route features three Category 3 climb zones at Ampang, Bukit Hantu and Bukit Mendum, alongside three intermediate sprint zones at Ulu Beranang, Rahang and in front of the Rembau Fire and Rescue Station, 17km before the finish line at Jalan Pedas-Rembau.

The race: Early in the stage Owen Gelijn (Unibet Rose Rockets) abandoned.
Here's the race organizer's stage four report:
CAMERON HIGHLANDS – Wheeltop Rotor Chengdu Cycling Team rider Petr Rikunov pulled off a surprise victory in Stage 4 of the 2026 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL26) at the summit of Cameron Highlands today.
In the 143km ride from Meru Raya, Perak, the Chinese Continental team rider left behind his two closest challengers in the breakaway group – Javier Ibanez Salazar (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and TotalEnergies rider Alan Jousseaume to wrap the race in 3 hours, 29 minutes and 12 seconds, with an average speed of 40.81 km/h.

Stage four gets started.
His achievement in bagging 25 points in the King of the Mountains standings allowed the 29-year-old Russian rider to wear the polka dot jersey, sponsored by Bubbles O2, from the previous holder and overall General Classification (GC) leader Lennart Jasch of Tudor Cycling Team.
Rikunov now has 29 points, 9 points ahead of Ibanez Salazar in the King of the Mountains classification – and has climbed to 18th place in the GC standings.
However, Jasch, who arrived in the main peloton 1 minute and 35 seconds behind Rikunov, retained the leader’s orange jersey sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), holding a 20-second lead over his closest contender, Abel Balderstone of Caja Rural.
Aisan Racing Team rider Yuhi Todome, who finished Stage 4 in 25th place, continues to wear the Best Asian Rider white jersey, sponsored by the National Sports Council (MSN).
The King of the Sprints blue jersey, sponsored by the 2027 SEA and Para Games Organising Secretariat (MASOC), remains with Stage 1 and Stage 3 winner Matteo Malucelli of XDS-Astana.
Rikunov who previously won the Tour of Poyang Lake and Tour of Qinghai Lake last year, as well as placing third overall in this year’s Xizang Trans-Himalaya, described his bold decision to join the initial six-rider breakaway group as a strategy that paid off.
“Before coming to Malaysia, I never thought I would win a stage here. While in the front group, we tried to stay as far ahead as possible, but the group dwindled to just a few riders once the climb began.
“Having nearly a 4 minutes gap, allowed us to push a fast pace even as the peloton tried to chase us down. With 1km to go, I felt very confident and launched an attack that ultimately secured the victory,” said Rikunov, who admitted he is not a pure climber for the Wheeltop Rotor Chengdu team.
He added that representing a smaller team meant that attention was focused primarily on the WorldTeam and ProTeam riders, giving him a slight advantage as he was overlooked by other competitors.
Meanwhile, Jasch, who finished ninth in Stage 4, stated that his team’s plan was to control the tempo of the race.
“There was no pressure even with a group of 5 riders ahead. Moreover, my teammates provided great support and fortunately, the weather wasn’t too hot.
“What’s important now is to prepare for tomorrow’s stage and manage our energy well,” said Jasch, who admitted that he felt no threat of losing the leader’s jersey.
The top Malaysian rider in Stage 4 was Tsen Ren Bao (St George Continental), who finished in 39th place while TSG rider Kee Zhe Yie sits in 27th place overall.
At the end of Stage 4, two riders – Owen Geleijn (Unibet Rose Rockets) and Tulatorn Sosalam (Thailand Continental Team) failed to finish (DNF). As a result, only 112 riders will be at the starting for Stage 5, a 125.7km route from Tapah to Genting Highlands.
Stage 5 (Tapah to Genting Highlands) to flag-off at 10:00am, will feature three sprint zones in Slim River, Tanjung Malim and Batang Kali before riders ascend to the summit of Genting Highlands at an altitude of 1,629 meters above sea level.

Stage 4 profile
Tuesday, September 29: Stage 3, Sungai Petani - Kuala Kangsar, 189.7 km

Matteo Malucelli just beats Riley Pickrell for the stage win.
Bill and Carol McGann's book The Story of the Giro d'Italia, A Year-by-Year History of the Tour of Italy, Vol 1: 1909 - 1970 is available in print, Kindle eBook & audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.
Weather at the finish city of Kuala Kangsar at 11:30 AM, local time: 33C (91F), fair, with the wnd from the northeast at 5 km/hr (3 mph). There is a 54% chance of rain at 1:00 PM.
The race: Byeonghoon Shin (KSPO) did not start.
Here's the race organizer's stage three report:
KUALA KANGSAR – Matteo Malucelli secured his second stage win of Le Tour de Langkawi 2026 (LTdL26) today as the XDS-Astana rider dominated the flat 189.7km Stage 3 route from Sungai Petani, Kedah to Kuala Kangsar, Perak.
Utilizing the same tactic by sprinting in the final 50 meters, he once again defeated Modern Adventure Cycling Team rider Riley Pickrell, while Tudor Cycling Team’s Seppe Van Der Boer took third place.
It marks the eighth stage victory overall for the 32-year-old Italian-born WorldTeam rider, who credited teammates Aaron Gate, Lev Gonov and Gleb Syritsa for guiding him to the front before he launched a fast sprint past Pickrell, just as he did in Stage 1 from Shah Alam to Kampar.
Malucelli led the main peloton to complete the 189.7km ride in 4 hours, 31 minutes, and 59 seconds averaging a speed of 41.85 km/h – extending his lead in the blue Sprint King jersey competition, sponsored by the 2027 SEA and Para Games Organising Secretariat (MASOC).
The Italian now accumulates 32 points, holding an 8-point lead over Pickrell, with Ronan Auge (Unibet Rose Rockets) sitting in third place (14 points).
With a flat route lacking tough climbs, the general classification time lead remains with Tudor rider Lennart Jasch, who finished 44th in Stage 3.
He continues to wear two major jerseys – the leader’s orange jersey sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) for the General Classification (GC), and the polka dot King of the Mountains jersey sponsored by Bubbles O2.
Aisan Racing Team’s Yuhi Todome also avoided taking risks, finishing 28th to retain the white Best Asian Rider jersey sponsored by the National Sports Council (MSN).

The peloton races across the beautiful Malaysian countryside.
Meanwhile, Malucelli stated that with two stage wins so far, he is highly satisfied and that the results have relieved the pressure within the Astana team itself.
He explained that his teammates controlled the race conditions and brought him up from the left side to the front before creating the final gap for him to sprint.
“It was all down to perfect teamwork, but it wasn’t easy. I was luckier to push at the right moment when Riley, who sprinted earlier, began losing power while I gained speed in the final 20 meters.
“What pleases all of us is that many younger sprint specialists are emerging in races like this, including the third-place finisher from Tudor.
“After this (the climbing stages to Cameron Highlands and Genting Highlands), I will assist my teammates the best I can before focusing on adding more stage wins on the remaining flat routes afterward,” he said.
Jasch commented that wearing the orange jersey in Stage 3 brought no extra pressure, and he is focusing stage by stage to maintain his general classification lead.
“There was no pressure while riding today, just riding as usual inside the main pack. I will study the route profile (to Cameron Highlands) tonight to prepare for tomorrow,” said Jasch, who expressed joy in seeing teammate Van Der Boer step onto the third step of the podium at the end of Stage 3.
He added that in the absence of sprint specialist Arvid de Kleijn at LTdL26, the 20-year-old Belgian rider – who has a background in cyclocross, showed strong potential in the final sprint and has a bright future ahead.
However, Jasch’s polka dot jersey, which he secured at the end of Stage 2 yesterday with 15 points, is now closely ‘threatened’ by Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) rider Muhammad Nur Aiman Zariff, who dominated the Category 2 climbing zone in Gerik.
The 2020 and 2022 King of the Mountains titleholder now has 14 points and could overtake Jasch if he scores in the upcoming climbing zones.
Meanwhile, Malaysia Pro Cycling (MPC) saw their rider Mohamad Izzat Hilmi Abdul Halil finish the stage in fifth place, while Malaysian national squad rider Muhammad Yusri Shaari, who featured in the initial six-rider breakaway group, was awarded the Most Combative Rider award.
Tomorrow’s Stage 4 of LTdL26 from Meru Raya to Cameron Highlands will cover a distance of 140.1km. It features 3 intermediate sprint zones in Gopeng, Kampar and Tapah before riders face a formidable Hors Category climb to the finish line at the summit of Cameron Highlands, standing at 1,451 meters above sea level.

Weather at Padang Serai, on the route, 46 km from the finish, at 11:30 PM, local time: 33C (91F), fair, with the wind from the south at 3 km/hr (2 mph). There is a 7% chance of rain, rising to 23% at 3:00 PM.
The race: Here's the race organizer's stage two report.
GURUN, Kedah – Tudor Cycling Team rider Lennart Jasch won Stage 2 of Le Tour de Langkawi 2026 (LTdL26), which stretched 143km from Taiping, Perak to Gunung Jerai in the state of Kedah today.
The victory enabled the 25-year-old German rider to wear the leader’s orange jersey sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and the King of the Mountains polka dot jersey sponsored by Bubbles O2.
Jasch, making his debut appearance with Tudor at LTdL, completed the ride which featured a steep climb in the final 11km with a time of 3 hours 37 minutes 21 seconds, finishing ahead of two Caja Rural-Seguros RGA riders – Abel Balderstone, who trailed by 26 seconds and Jan Castellon Robalt (32s behind).
He now leads the general classification (GC) with a cumulative time of 7h 44m 04s, holding a 20-second edge over Balderstone.
He also tops the King of the Mountains classification with 15 points, just 3 points ahead of the Spanish rider.
“It wasn’t a surprise because I also come from a hilly area. Today was all about who was stronger on the climb. I still respect the two Caja Rural riders who rode preety well.
“My teammates did a great job positioning me at the front as the climb started, and I stayed in the lead group while several other riders began to drop off.
“After that, I saw one rider (Balderstone) make a breakaway, but I stayed calm and only accelerated in the remaining 2km before overtaking him about 500 meters from the finish line,” said Jasch, who previously claimed a win at the Tour of the Alps and gained experience with the WorldTeam side, Redbull Bora-Hangrove.
According to Jasch, the victory at Gunung Jerai also gives him a boost of confidence ahead of two tougher upcoming climbs at Cameron Highlands and Genting Highlands.
Meanwhile, XDS-Astana rider Matteo Malucelli, who won Stage 1 in Kampar,Perak yesterday, retained the Sprinters’ classification blue jersey sponsored by the 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games Organising Secretariat (MASOC).
He holds 17 points, 5 points clear of his nearest rival, Riley Pickrell of Modern Adventure Cycling Team.
The Best Asian Rider white jersey, sponsored by the National Sports Council (MSN), swapped hands to Aisan Racing Team’s Yuhi Todome (7h 49m 04s), who holds a 15-second lead over TSG rider Kee Zhe Yie, while Tsen Ren Bao of St George Continental Team trails by 39 seconds.
Malaysia Pro Cycling rider Muhammad Iqbal Daniel Mohd Nawawi was awarded the Most Combative Rider award after he launched an early breakaway and riding solo for nearly 20 km.
However, two puncture incidents forced him to yield, and he was reabsorbed by the peloton with 20km remaining to the finish line.
Two Continental riders from 7-Eleven Cliqq Roadbike Philippines, Cormac McGeough and Bradley Perkins, failed to finish Stage 2 and have been eliminated from competing in Stage 3 tomorrow, which runs 189.9km from Sungai Petani, Kedah to Kuala Kangsar, Perak.
Tomorrow’s route features three sprint zones in Kuala Ketil, Lawin and Sauk, alongside a Category 2 climb in Gerik.
This may trigger another battle for points in the King of the Mountains and Sprinters classifications, with the stage expected to culminate in a group sprint finish.

Sunday, September 27: Stage 1, Shah Alam - Kampar, 193 km

Matteo Malucelli (left) just beats Riley Pickrell for the stage win and GC lead.
Bill and Carol McGann's book The Story of the Tour de France, Vol 2: 1976 - 2018 is available in print, Kindle eBook & Audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.
Weather at the finish city of Kampar at 10:30 AM, local time: 28C (82F), cloudy, with the wind from the south-southeast at 13 km/hr (8 mph). There is a 7% chance of rain.
The race: Here's the race organizer's stage one summary:
XDS-Astana rider Matteo Malucelli demonstrated his prowess by winning Stage 1 of the 2026 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL26) from Shah Alam, Selangor to Kampar, Perak today – effectively erasing doubts surrounding an injury he sustained during a training session yesterday morning.
It marks the seventh stage victory for the WorldTeam rider, resuming a winning streak that was interrupted last year when he was involved in a crash and eliminated on Stage 6 from Shah Alam to Port Dickson in the state of Negeri Sembilan.
In a final sprint effort in Kampar, the 32-year-old Italian edged out Modern Adventure Cycling Team rider Riley Pickrell and Caja Rural-Seguros RGA’s top sprinter, Fernando Gaviria, completing the 193km ride in 4 hours, 06 minutes and 53 seconds with an average speed of 46.94 km/h.
The victory earned him a 10-second time bonus and 15 points in the Sprint classification, qualifying Malucelli to wear the leader’s orange jersey sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) as well as the blue jersey sponsored by the 2027 Malaysia SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games Organizing Secretariat (MASOC).
With only one Category 4 climb at kilometer 9 after the start, Wheeltop Rotor Chengdu Team rider Petr Rikunov claimed the King of the Mountains polka dot jersey sponsored by Bubbles O2.
Meanwhile, Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) rider Nur Aiman Rosli who was active in the breakaway group and picked up a 3-second time bonus at the second sprint zone in Kuala Selangor, placed sixth overall (GC) to earn the white jersey sponsored by the National Sports Council (MSN) as the Best Asian Rider.
Malucelli was visibly surprised by his ability to hold off late charges from Pickrell and Gaviria during the mass sprint to the finish line, even after witnessing teammate Aaron Gate crash on the final corner.
“Yes, I’m surprised and happy because I was injured yesterday, and my hand still hurts. I even saw Aaron (Gate) lose control and crash. But my teammate (Gleb Syritsa) brought me to the front. They worked hard along the route today and controlled the tempo at the front of the peloton well.
“When crossing the finish line, neither my rival (Pickrell) nor I were sure who had won, but once he signaled to me, I knew for certain that I had won,” Malucelli added.
He noted that following this strong start, he hopes to maintain the momentum to support his teammates through the upcoming hilly stages before seeking further stage wins on flat terrain.
Meanwhile, TGS’s Nur Aiman Rosli said the white jersey gives him the motivation to keep pushing for a podium finish, despite admitting that his initial plan to dominate the single climb zone in Meru fell through after failing to break away earlier on.
Although he initially formed part of a five-rider lead group alongside Javier Ibanez (Caja Rural), Pablo Carrascosa (Equipo Kern Pharma),
Andrei Stephanov (Chengdu) and Liam Cuthbertson (St George), the breakaway dwindled to three riders and was caught by the peloton with 10km remaining.
“I tried my best today. But it was very tough due to windy conditions and intense heat, especially over the final 60km. However, this is only the first stage, and there are still opportunities ahead,” he said.
Rikunov smiled over his efforts in working hard to dominate the early climb in Meru. “It was just the first 9km, and after seeing many breakaway attempts, I decided to drop back into the peloton controlled by Astana. I just hope to finish the race in top 10 overall, as my job tomorrow is to support Jonathan (Caicedo),” he said.
In somewhat unexpected news at the end of the race, title favourite Geoffrey Bouchard from Team TotalEnergies failed to finish (DNF), leaving 118 riders to continue on for Stage 2 tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s Stage 2 is considered the first major test of LTdL26, covering a 145km route from Taiping, Perak to the summit finish at Mount Jerai in the state of Kedah.
The route features three sprint zones in Selama (km41), Padang Serai (km99.5) and Aman Jaya (km114.3) before the riders tackle an 11km climb to the summit of Mount Jerai, situated 971 meters above sea level.
