The race: Here's the report from fifth-place Milan Menten's Team Lotto-Intermarché.
Milan Menten sprinted to fifth place in Nokere Koerse. Steffen De Schuyteneer secured a second top-ten finish for Lotto–Intermarché, finishing ninth. “I started my sprint too early, but considering the level of the field here, I can be satisfied.”
Nokere Koerse and Milan Menten: a strong combination. The past three editions already showed it, and this year was no different.
“That makes it four years in a row that I finish in the top eight here,” said Menten. “This race suits me. I want to come from behind, but I went too early. At 300 metres to go, I hesitated whether to launch or not- I didn’t want to make the same mistake as last year, when I went too early. But then a rider from UAE went, and Jasper Philipsen and Jordi Meeus followed in the slipstream. I had to follow, but I felt I didn’t have the punch anymore to really go for it.”
Menten eventually finished fifth and still looked back positively on his race. “If you see who’s at the start here… I think this was the strongest field of all my participations. Just look at who finished ahead of me today.”
Steffen De Schuyteneer added another strong result for Lotto–Intermarché, finishing ninth.
