The race:

The 1988 Paris-Roubaix was 266 km long and raced at an average speed of 40.324 km/hr.

Thee were 194 starters and 75 classified finishers.

The racers got to enjoy a sunny day.

At kilometer 44, Thierry Casas attacked, taking twelve riders with him. The peloton did not react.

This front group went well clear and by the time they exited the Wallers-Arenberg sector, they were more than five minutes ahead, though misfortune had reduced their number to seven.

At the Carrefour de l'Arbre Thomas Wegmüller and Dirk Demol left the others behind and after being away for 222 kilometers Dirk Demol enjoyed the greatest victory of his career.
