Stage winner BMC crosses the finish line at twilight
The Race: Because of safety concerns over the day's irregular course, results will count only towards team classification, not individual GC. Today's stage was for pride of place. In fact, BMC was undecided before the stage start as to whether they should go all-out and try to win the stage since it would not advance the GC ambitions. In the end they did decide to kick out all the watts they could.
The result? BMC and Tinkoff-Saxo continued their team time trial rivalry. At the Tour de France, BMC had also beaten Tinkoff-Saxo by a fraction of a second.
As BMC's first rider across the line, Peter Velits will wear the leader's red jersey tomorrow
The riders will start tomorrow's 158.7 kilometer stage at zero in the GC.
Results:
7.4 kilometers raced at an average speed of 54.367 km/hr
