Cycling's 50 Craziest Stories

The Race: Axel Dumont of Ag2r won the last stage of the Circuit de la Sarthe and his first professional race by attacking his breakaway, which had made good its escape with twenty kilometers to go.

With 1.5 km to go the 23-year old racer took off for the line, planning to "...either succeed or die. I was not there for fourth or fifth place." This was Ag2r's 10th victory this season.

Ramunas Navardauskas successfully defended the lead he gained yesterday thanks to his powerful Garmin-Sharp team. This was Navardauskas' first professional stage race victory.

Paris–Roubaix: The Inside Story

The Race: Lithuanian rider Ramunas Navadauskas won both the stage and the overall lead today. He had lots of help from his Garmin-Sharp teammates Rohan Dennis, Nathan Haas and Nathan Brown as they raced for the finish at the summit on Mont des Avaloirs. They had to snuff out a last-minute flyer by FDJ rider Francis Mourey.

Going into the final day, Navadauskas has a 17-second lead over teammate Rohan Dennis, who has a single-second gap over FDJ rider Anthoiny Roux.

The final stage tomorrow is hilly, so Garmin-Sharp can expect a hard day at the office defending the lead.

Alex Dowsett, the British rider racing for Movistar, blazed the the time trial course at more than 50 km/hr, allowing him to win both the stage and the race lead.

Paris–Roubaix: The Inside Story

The Race: Nacer Bouhanni has won his fourth race of the season by outsprinting his countryman Giacomo Nizzolo and Juan José Lobato.

The French sprinter had three teammates to lead him out, but in the final difficult meters he lost their wheels and had to sprint on his own. Bouhanni had been troubled by a knee injured at Paris-Nice, but he says everything is fine now.

Bouhanni has won stages this year at the Bessèges, Paris-Nice and the Critérium International.
