Monday, April 7: Stage 1, Ordizia - Ordizia, 153.4 km

Tour of Flanders, the Inside Story

Stage 1 course profile | Stage 1 photos |

The Race: Alberto Contador confirmed his terrific condition with his fifth win this season. The peloton came apart on the final climb after suffering through seven previous ascents. Alejandro Valverde threw down the glove on the Alto Gaintza which is about 7 km from the finish, and only Contador could take up the challenge.

Contador distanced his Spanish rival and kept his gap on the descent and rolled into Ordizia alone, 14 seconds ahead of Valverde.

Since time bonuses are not in play, that is also the GC time gap.

Alberto Contador wins stage 1
