Saturday, October 29: 251 kilometers. Bergamo - Lecco
Heavy rain during the final kilometers making the roads very slippery. Joaquim Rodriguez took off on the final climb and had about seven seconds at the top, which he held to the end. Not only was Rodriguez the first Spanish Tour of Lombardy winner, 2012 featured an all Spanish-speaking podium.

Two of the greats at the start: Rudi Altig and Felice Gimondi
The race started in Gimondi's hometown of Bergamo in homage to the versitile rider. He won the Giro di Lombardia in 1966
Here Gimondi and Altig are joined by Ercole Baldini (on left). Baldini had an unbelievable 1958, he was Champion of the World, Champion of Italy and winner of the Giro d'Italia. Altig, among other victories, was 1966 World Road Champion.

Joaquim Rodriguez maitained his gap down a treacherous, slippery descent and on several kilometers of flat road. This was a terrific win by a worthy victor.
