1927 Tour Quick Facts:

5,340 km raced at an average speed of 26.836 km/hr

142 starters, of whom 38 were pros on sponsored teams and 103 were independent touristes-routiers. In 16 of the stages (the flat ones) were run as team time trials and the touristes-routiers were started after the riders on teams, crushing their chances.

Nicolas Frantz took the lead in stage 11 after a fabulous ride in the Pyrenees. No one was remotely in his league in 1927, hence a winning margin that approached 2 hours.
